Chapter 4
A young man slowly opened his eyes, completely unaware of his surroundings. He quickly closed them again, as it was difficult for him to adjust to the light after being in the dark for so long. After a few seconds, he opened them again as the panic of unfamiliarity rushed in.
Where was he? What had happened to him? He couldn't remember much.He remembered his past, of course. He remembered the torture, the manipulation, the pain, and the agony of his life so bad he knew death would have been easier. He remembered everything, but he didn't know where he was and what he was doing here. The last thing he could recall was running away from his atrocities. He didn't know where he was going and didn't think about what would happen to him. All he knew was that he had to escape. He had to escape that barbarity, and all he could do for that was run. Run away as far as possible. He didn't even know if he would survive, but he was ok with that. Death was good; it was like a mother's hug, which took all the pain away so the guy didn't mind it. The last thing he remembered before fading into oblivion was that maybe death had finally come for him. That finally those gentle hands would take him away from this brutality and into an oblivion so deep, no scar could reach him again.
So it was only natural for him to be scared and shocked when he woke up, alive, and found himself in a completely unfamiliar place.
His eyes moved to his hand, to the IV drip injected in his veins.
He looked around, scanning this room, trying to figure out where he was.
It was a small room, with plain white walls and barely any life to it. The only furniture that was present was the bed the guy was in and an empty chair besides it.
It seemed like a hospital room.
So apparently that's how he was still alive.
"You are awake." A voice said suddenly, making him flinch.
He moved his eyes in the direction of that voice to find its owner standing near the wall with a huge smile spread on his face.
As soon as he saw him, he felt his breathing stop. This guy in front of him was the epitome of beauty. He had the most beautiful blonde hair and eyes, the prettiest shade of green. He looked like he was carved by the most talented artist in this world. He didn't look human; he looked like an artist's best creation. And his smile—god, that was what took his breath away. He had a huge grin plastered on his face, showcasing two dimples on each side of his cheeks. He looked majestic like that. All he wanted to do in that moment was run to that stranger and hold him in his arms. He wanted to study every inch of his face and memorize it.He had never felt this way for anyone, and he did not like feeling that way now.He tried to smell him; he needed to know what he smelled like, but that was a failed attempt. He no longer had his wolf.
That reminder was painful.
He forced himself to look away and asked, "W-who are you?"
The stranger moved towards him with a delicate carefulness. He stopped near his bed and looked at him like he was some beautiful piece of art.
The patient felt weird being looked at like that, but still, there wasn't any discomfort.
"I am Aiden." The stranger said, "The alpha of the BlackwoodPack."
The patient's eyes widened at this information. Standing in front of him was the Alpha of the strongest and most respected pack of their world. This was Aiden Vale; he was the most talked about wolf in the community. He was special. The patient couldn't believe that great guy was standing in front of him. It was surreal.
Aiden noticed his shock and passed a comforting smile, "Don't worry. You are safe here. We found you unconscious near the borders and decided to bring you here. This is the clinic of the most talented healer of my pack. He is the one who treated you, and I hope you feel better now. I request you to stay here till you are better. You will receive the best medical treatment here, and all your basic necessities will be met. I also assure you there wouldn't be any problem with the other pack members. Everyone here is really kind, so please, stay here."
The other guy could not believe Aiden's words. Aiden Vale was standing there, offering a stay at his pack along with the medical treatment. No, he was requesting it. It sounded like Aiden wanted that. How was it possible?Aiden did not know anything about him. There was a possibility he was dangerous or an enemy. He could even be a rogue, and yet Aiden was there, offering him to stay, without any questions. This was unbelievable. No alpha in their right mind would do that, but the patient didn't question anything.
He simply nodded. This was exactly what he needed, and if Aiden was giving it to him without questions, he would take it.
"Thank you." Aiden said softly, "Can I ask your name?"
"Evren." The patient said, "Evren Grayson."
"Evren." Aiden repeated softly. He sounded like he was reciting a prayer.
Hearing Aiden say his name like that, heat rushed through Evren's body. It sounded beautiful, and Evren wanted to hear it again.
"Do you remember how you ended up here?" Aiden asked
This question tensed Evren's whole body. His breath hitched as he gulped before shaking his head in a tiny no.
Aiden could feel how affected Evren was by this question, and he understood it. He didn't want to pressure his mate into anything. He knew it would take Evren a lot of time to get better, and he was willing to wait for that.
He sat at the edge of the bed, maintaining a safe distance, trying not to disrespect Evren's boundaries.
"I am sorry for asking that." Aiden said softly, "You don't have to answer it. Just take care of yourself, please."
Evren looked at Aiden, unsure of why his words affected him that much. He could feel something warm flooding inside him. It felt as if after all that pain, Evren finally found that voice, which didn't yell but only stayed.
Evren mentally cursed himself for allowing himself to think like that. He had heard from many people that Aiden was a really kind alpha, so this was perhaps just that. Just Aiden being the kind alpha he was.
An unexpected bitterness came to Evren at that thought. So, Aiden spoke this softly with everyone? He looked at everyone with those adorable, delicate eyes? That thought felt like a sharp cut to his heart.
God, what was wrong with Evren? Had he finally completely lost himself to insanity? This was madness.
Evren wasn't here to think such ridiculous thoughts or feel such emotions. No, he couldn't do that.He was getting a place to live and food to eat and would receive great medical treatment. He should be focusing on that and not how gorgeous Aiden was.
"You ok?" Aiden asked, sensing the tension from Evren's body.
That made Evren's heartbeat faster. Why was he being like this? So kind, so beautiful, so amazing, and why did Evren notice all that?
This was definitely not ok.
Maybe Evren had hit his head somewhere. Yeah, that was the only explanation.
"Answer me, Ev," Aiden whispered softly.
God, why did he sound so melodic? His voice was velvety, laced with the warmth, and it made Evren tingle. It took Evren's breath away and made him feel weird in the stomach.
Evren knew he had to put some distance between them before he truly lost his mind.
"Y-yeah," Evren finally answered, "I think I need rest."
Aiden studied him for a couple of seconds more before humming in response and getting up.
"I will let you rest." Aiden said and passed him a soft smile, "If you need anything, call Oliver. He is the healer that runs this clinic, with tan skin, black hair, and brown eyes. He is always around here and would help you with everything."
Evren nodded in response. It felt weird that Aiden cared this much, but strangely, Evren liked that. He knew that it was just his kindness as the alpha of the pack, but knowing that Aiden was concerned for him still made him feel something.
Aiden started walking towards the door. His hand moved towards the handle, but he didn't twist it immediately. He just stood there for a few seconds and finally looked back, making eye contact with Evren, whose hazel eyes were already focused on him.
"I will come back." Aiden said, "Please wait for me."
After that, Aiden left. He didn't wait for Evren's reply, nor did he expect anything from a return.
He simply made a promise and let it become known.
Evren laid down on the bed again. He was supposed to rest, but despite the exhaustion, sleep never came for him.
His mind kept wandering to that guy. The guy with the most beautiful eyes, the softest voice, the warmest smile, and this strange ability to make Evren feel everything he never expected to feel.
His mind kept replaying his last words.
I will come back; please wait for me.
Evren knew this was dangerous. He was not supposed to feel this way, but as he lay there, staring at the white ceiling, he went against his own survival instincts.
As the obedient guy he was, he waited.
