Heroes of the Future

Angela gasped and jumped from her bed. She had dreamt again. 'Everything's going to be fine,'  she thought to herself. Michael let her stay in the guest room. She didn't get much sleep though with images of death keeping her awake. She had a lot to do. She was going to go looking for Dark with Michael's help. She went outside her room to look for Michael.    "Who are you? " asked a woman behind Angela . Angela turned around to see a young woman wearing a towel. She looked slightly younger than Michael. Angela wondered if she was his girlfriend. She dismissed the thought immediately. The young woman looked a lot like Michael. She was probably the sister he told her about yesterday. Angela wondered how Michael's sister would feel about him taking off with a girl he'd just met in a suicidal attempt to save the future.    "I'm Angela. Michael said i could spend the night here. "   "Of course he did. " the woman said sarcastically.    "You must be his sister "   "Yes i am " the woman replied without introducing herself. "So, what are you doing here?"   "It's a long story "   "Just forget i asked. " The woman said. As the woman was about to turn around, Michael showed up.    "Hello sister. Always nice of you to show up unannounced. "   "Don't be silly Michael, this is my house too. " The woman replied. "I see you have a thing for blondes, Michael. " the woman said staring approvingly at Angela, she managed to force a smile and Angela couldn't help but smile in return. "I'm Diana by the way, Michael's charming little sister. " Michael rolled his eyes and moved towards Angela.    "Sorry for keeping you waiting. " he said.    "Are you going somewhere? " Diana asked.    "Yes"   "Please don't tell me you forgot about the party." Diana said, dissapointed. "Dad said we both have to go. I'm not going without you. "   "What party? " Angela asked.    "Our dad's organising a party for a retired soldier, Frederick Richardson. Lots of important people will be there. " Michael said. "Don't worry Angela, we're not going. "   "Frederick Richardson." Angela repeated to herself. She had heard the name before. She tried to remember and then she finally did. George Richardson, Frederick's son, one of her father's friends. She couldn't remember if her father attended the party but she had only one way to find out. "Michael, we have to go to the party." Angela said. Michael had a puzzled look on his face.    "Diana can you give us a minute? " Michael asked.    "Take your time. " she replied leaving the two of them alone.    "What are you doing? " Michael asked  "I thought you wanted to save the future. "   "I do, but i think my dad's gonna be there "   "why would your dad be there?" Michael asked.     "He's a senator in Canada. " Angela replied. "Well, technically he doesn't become senator till the next four years, but you get my point. "   "No i don't. If you're dad's going to be there, then that's another reason why we shouldn't go. "   "My dad's our best chance of finding Dark. "   "Can't we just track this guy down using the social media?"   "No, he is extremely reclusive. " Angela pointed out.    "If you interact with your dad in the present, it could affect the future, not necessarily in a good way. "   "I never said i'll talk to him. " Angela said. "When we get to the party, you could talk to him and tactfully find out about Dark's whereabouts. "   "Alright. " Michael finally agreed.  "Does this  Dark guy have an actual name? "   "His name is Darren Ark. "       Angela prepared for the event. She was going to see her father again. Even though she wouldn't be able to talk to him, that would be enough. She wondered if she was making a mistake getting her father involved. She refused to change her mind. She was strong willed. 'This is the only chance i have to make things right.'   Diana was dressed like a princess. Michael was just as good looking as his sister. Angela refused to think about that though. She didn't have time for distractions. She went outside the house with Michael and Diana.    When Angela got to the party, the hall was filled with festivities. People dancing, laughing and telling jokes. She spotted George Richardson almost immediately. She thought she'd see her dad standing close to him but she was wrong. 'Maybe he didn't show up after all. ' she thought.    Not long after they had walked in Diana was crowded with people asking to dance with her. She turned all of them down, much to Angela's surprise. Diana and Michael's father showed up. He greeted them all cheerfully. He especially praised Diana. Michael, on the other hand was criticised thoroughly because of his appearance. Angela couldn't see why, she thought he looked perfect. His dad obviously didn't agree, he made disapproving comments about Michael's haircut, his clothes, even his shoes. Angela decided to end Michael's discomfort by asking him to dance. She hadn't danced in a very long time. She wasn't even sure she still remembered how. While dancing with Michael, she stepped on him frequently. Once, she nearly tripped and fell. She  accidentally pushed someone behind her.    "I'm so sorry." Angela said without fully turning around.    "No problem. " said the man behind her. The voice. She remembered the voice. Angela turned around slowly. She gasped in shock as she saw the face of the man. Without meaning to, Angela muttered the one word she shouldn't have,  "Father."
