Mia Calloway is the daughter of the man who destroyed the Cole family's fortune. Everyone believes that. She used to believe it too.Seven years ago, the Calloway-Cole partnership collapsed overnight. Daniel Calloway allegedly embezzled forty million dollars from his partner, Richard Cole, and disappeared before he could be arrested leaving his family disgraced and the Cole empire nearly bankrupt. The tabloids buried the Calloway name. Mia grew up on the wreckage: creditors, a father drowning in silence, a new last name every time the old one got recognized. So when Richard Cole's lawyers arrive with one final offer marry his son Ethan, and the debt dies with the wedding Mia says yes. Not for peace. For access. Somewhere inside Cole Tower is the proof that will finally clear her father's name.Ethan already knows exactly who she is. He wants her inside the house too because the man he calls "father" isn't his real father, and everything both families lost traces back to the same vault. They marry as enemies, each convinced the other's father destroyed their own. But the deeper they dig, the story cracks apart in a direction neither of them wanted:Daniel Calloway did take the money. Just not for himself. He took it to protect Ethan a boy he'd been quietly paying off Richard's enemies to keep alive since Ethan was twelve, back when Richard's real brother (Ethan's actual father) was murdered to secure the company, and Richard needed a clean heir with no memory of the truth. Daniel wasn't a thief. He was the last man trying to keep a child safe from the man raising him and he paid for it with his name, his family, and his freedom.Which means Mia didn't marry into the house that ruined her father. She married the boy her father died protecting. Now Mia has to decide: expose the truth and destroy the only father figure Ethan has ever known or protect a lie that clears her father's name only in the dark, never in public, while the real monster keeps his empire and his throne. And Ethan has to reckon with the fact that the "villain" his whole life was built to hate was the one person trying to save him.Two people who married to destroy each other's families discover they were never enemies at all they were the last unfinished piece of a rescue that started before either of them could remember.

The Contract
The lawyer slid the papers across the table like he was dealing a hand of cards he already knew would win. "Sign here, Ms. Calloway, and your father's debt disappears. Every dollar. Every lien on your mother's house. Gone by tomorrow morning." Mia didn't touch the pen yet. She looked at the number circled in red at the top of the contract forty million dollars the exact amount her father was accused of stealing from Richard Cole seven years ago. The number that had followed her through two evictions, three stolen last names, and every job interview that ended the moment someone recognized her face. "And in exchange I marry a man I've never met." "You'll meet him today." The lawyer checked his watch. "In eleven minutes, actually." Mia almost laughed. Not because it was funny because it was so absurd it looped back around to feeling inevitable. Of course this was how it would end. Not with an apology. Not with the truth finally clawing its way out of whatever hole the Coles had buried it in. Just a contract, and a wedding, and her name signed away one more time. She thought of her father's hands shaking around a coffee mug the last time she saw him sober enough to speak in full sentences. I didn't take their money, Mia. I found something they couldn't afford for anyone to find. She never got to ask him what. He was gone three weeks later. No note. No body. Just an empty apartment and a police file that closed itself. "Fine," Mia said, and picked up the pen. The Cole family didn't do weddings. They did unveilings. That was the only word Mia could think of as she stood in the marble foyer of Cole Tower's top floor, in a white dress that cost more than a year of her old rent, surrounded by people who were watching her the way you'd watch an animal that had wandered too far into the wrong part of the city. She recognized none of them. She recognized all of them. Cole blood, Cole money, Cole silence the same kind of silence that had swallowed her father whole. And then the doors opened, and Ethan Cole walked in, and every other thought in Mia's head went quiet. He didn't look at the room. He looked at her one long, unhurried sweep, like he was reading a file he'd already memorized and was simply confirming the details matched. "Ms. Calloway," he said, low enough that only she could hear it. "Or should I say Ms. Bell? Ms. Hart? You've gone through names almost as fast as my father's lawyers go through witnesses." Mia's stomach dropped. He knew. He'd known before she walked in. "I don't know what you're talking about," she said, and hated how thin her voice sounded. Ethan's mouth curved not a smile, something colder and more interesting than a smile. He leaned in, close enough that anyone watching would think he was whispering something tender to his new bride. "You're Daniel Calloway's daughter," he murmured. "You've been hiding for seven years. And you just signed a marriage contract with the son of the man everyone says destroyed your family." Mia's pulse hammered so hard she was certain he could hear it. "Then why haven't you called it off?" Ethan straightened, and for the first time, something flickered behind his eyes that wasn't calculation. It looked almost like relief. "Because I need someone inside this family who hates my father as much as I do," he said. "And because I don't think your father stole anything, Mia. I think he found something. Something my father has spent seven years and one dead man trying to keep buried." The officiant cleared his throat. The room was waiting. Somewhere behind her, a string quartet started the first slow notes of a processional Mia hadn't chosen and didn't want. Ethan held out his hand. "Welcome to the family," he said. "Try not to let them see you're as dangerous as I am." Mia stared at his open palm the same hand that, according to every article ever written about the Coles, had never once been photographed without a wedding ring on it before today. She thought of her father's shaking hands. Of the number circled in red. Of seven years of running from a name that had never once let her go. She took his hand. "I won't," she said. "I'll let them
