Chapter 1
LIVING IN THE MIDST.
Dariella, 25 Year-old C.E.O. of J.P. Morgan Chase, residing in New York, was adopted by the Share Group's chairlady, Lady Stacy, after her parents were swept away in an accident. She's also Lady Stacy's favourite. Though not a member of her family, the chairlady had always adored her for her bravery and hard work.
Expecting a lot from Dariella, there came an issue she wanted to get rid of, which was Stacy's cold-heartedness towards love. She found it so distressing. She called for her secretary, Wendy, and they both had a conversation.
"What do we do, ma'am?"
"Dariella must be evolved around love. I'm worried for her. After losing her parents, she's not been in for any romantic pleasures," Wendy said.
The chairlady, who sat up and looked straight into Wendy's eyes, replied sharply, "Fix a date for her. Quickly, bring me the list of those suitors I've arranged for her."
Wendy left the chairlady's office and grabbed a list of suitors the chairlady had listed. She went back to the chairlady's office and gave her the list.
The chairlady collected the list and held it close to her face for a closer look. She screamed, "This one! I'm going for Mr. Rodrigo. Heard he's a journalist for Warner Bros."
She said, staring at Wendy, who was listening with fixed attention.
"Ma'am, what do we do?" Wendy said.
"Oh, Wendy! I have an idea. You will call Dariella and fake that I collapsed and was rushed to the hospital."
"Okay, ma'am. I'll do just that."
Wendy grasped her cell phone and made a call to Dariella.
Dariella, being hesitant to pick up, gave up and took her phone and answered.
"Dariella!!! Come over!!! The chairlady just collapsed, and she's been rushed to the hospital!" Wendy said.
Pacing up, Dariella hung up and quickly went out of the company. Reaching for her car key, she hurriedly hopped into the car and drove off as fast as she could.
Her breath ceased as she ran off towards the hospital reception. She found a way to regain it back and hurriedly rushed off to the female ward where the chairlady was.
Dariella was covered in fear and sadness. She bent over the chairlady, and her head was on the chairlady's chest. She started crying and said, "Don't leave me! Wake up! I'm here now. Anything you say, I'll do."
After a few moments, the chairlady opened her eyes and laughed hard. She laid her hand on Dariella's head and teased her.
"Just tell me that you're happy that I'm gone because there won't be anyone who will shout your name and get you confused."
She laughed again.
Dariella, who was angry a bit, straightened herself, looking straight into the chairlady's eyes.
"You can die, since giving me a heart attack suits you, but please don't scare me this way. I don't want to lose you."
"If you don't want to lose me, date, Dariella!" the chairlady replied.
She went further and told her that she'd arranged a date for her and that she mustn't refuse.
Dariella, with pity for the chairlady, never bothered to argue. For once, Dariella kept quiet over the lady's speech.
The chairlady, who was certain that Dariella wouldn't refuse, screamed, "It's your birthday!"
She brought out a box that contained a cake and opened it. She brought out the cake and lit a fire. She placed the cake in front of Dariella's face and said, "Make a wish, princess."
Dariella patted the chairlady's back.
"My wish is for you to stay with me. Don't try to leave me, and don't scare me the way you did. I could have died too!"
"Hurry now, Dariella. Your cab is here. Don't forget to always stay polite and hold your head high," said the chairlady with a smile that faded immediately.
Dariella quickly took a part of the cake and squeezed it into her mouth, melting the texture and savouring the flavour.
She hurriedly went out of the hospital and got to her cab, which was already waiting for her. The driver drove off in an instant immediately after she settled down.
She was gallivanting over the beauty of New York, the people, supermarkets, and a few beaches.
In a speed of light, she got to her designated location. She quickly had a look at the restaurant, "DUMBO, Brooklyn, Washington Street," and fell in love with it.
She slowly walked to the restaurant receptionist. She was offered a table set to sit.
On that same table sat a young, handsome, fair-complexioned, eloquent-speaking gentleman, "Troy," looking furiously at Dariella.
Troy exclaimed, "Who are you? Why are you here? I booked this whole place for a quiet space, and you intruded."
Dariella, who was confused at the moment, said to him, "I'm here for a date, and this is the venue, and you're my date."
"Where are your manners, gentleman, or whatever you call yourself!"
Troy spoke back to her.
"Miss, where are your manners also?! You're sitting at my table, shouting on me."
With haste, Dariella stood up angrily and left.
By then, her driver had dropped her car at the entrance of the restaurant. She drove off like the wind, with fury inside her.
A mile away, she noticed that someone was following her. With fear and confusion, she diverted to another route.
The person following her was an assassin, paid by Mr. Roberto, the chairlady's son and heir. He was able to keep up with her. Lost with thoughts of what next to do, she had to drive quickly into a thick track filled with tall trees and parked.
She hopped down and started running, her heart racing with terror. The assassin did the same and ran after her.
Dariella kept reciting prayers in her heart like a menu, running towards a raid track. The assassin was able to keep up with her as fast as he could.
While running, she noticed a figure coming towards her. Immediately, she hastened her heels and ran as her strength could take towards the figure in a thick, dark mist.
As she approached him closely, she noticed the figure looked like what she met with earlier, but didn't care to place it.
She quickly found her voice and cried, "Help! Help me, please! I'm about to lose my life!"
With her hands stretched towards him, he came closely towards her, and that was when she realized it was the man at the restaurant, "Troy."
Troy quickly noticed the assassin was coming towards them. He caught hold of Dariella's face and told her, "Before I'll help you, I deal with contracts. Humans are invulnerable, and I'm a special being who temporarily helps humans."
He flipped his hands forward. Between his fingers was a burning scroll.
Dariella held her breath and released it and asked, "What are you holding? I can't sign what I haven't read."
Turning back to leave, she held him tightly.
He told her that the contract she was about to sign was a life-possessive contract. After signing, she's going to live happily for five years, then she'll die and go to hell.
She couldn't catch a glimpse of the words he told her, but desperate for safety, she agreed and collected the scroll from him.
He turned from her and was going towards the assassin.
Being careful, she didn't sign the contract immediately. She waited for what would happen next.
He got to the assassin and beat him to a pulp. The assassin quickly escaped and ran towards his car and got in.
In a second, Troy reversed back to Dariella, who was quite surprised with his skills in combat. She couldn't believe she was hooked up on a date with a supernatural being.
She reluctantly didn't sign the contract.
Out from the air, his voice ran deep into her ears.
"Sign quick."
A light pierced through their eyeballs, and they both turned backwards.
The assassin, on speed, raced towards them with eagerness to destroy.
Troy got a hold of Dariella's hand and dived towards the direction of an ocean, snapping his fingers towards the incoming vehicle…
