I come back home from my last drink with Kate with a heaviness on my chest and finish packing the last box. My father comes soon enough, but even seeing him can’t lift my mood. I smile at him, but I know he can see right through me, and knows I’m not happy. He gives me a gentle squeeze on the shoulder when I put the first box in the car.
