Chapter 5

1106 Words
Isaac POV I arrived at work in time for the lunch shift. My kind was on the conversation with Nico. What if I was not able to run into the she-wolves. I know Nico said I did not have to go out of my way to find them but I wondered if that would change. I greeted my co-workers and started my shift. I had only been working about half an hour when a group of she-wolves entered the restaurant and were seated in my section. Given the town was primarily human and on neutral territory this was not out of the ordinary. I just did not expect to have to wait on werewolves my first week as a waiter. “Good afternoon ladies, I am Isaac, I will be waiting on you this afternoon what can I get you to drink.” I said when I approached the table. The same as I did every table I waited on. It was clear from the auras coming off the women they were all higher ranked and if I wasn’t mistaken at least 3 of the 5 were alpha ranked. There were 4 younger ladies. If I had to guess I would say they were likely 16-20. They were accompanied by a lady who was maybe in her late 40’s although it was hard to say. Werewolves started to age slower after they hit their mid 20’s. They way she carried herself and spoke to the younger ladies let me think she was likely the Luna and maybe a mother to at least one of the girls. I reminded myself that while normally it was disrespectful not to address her as Luna among the humans that would be forbidden. As supernatural beings we needed to keep our existence unknown to the humans. “Interesting” the lady I believed to be the Luna said. “I just am curious what brings you to town as a waiter.” I knew why she was asking. Most vampires that were able to leave the coven were affluent enough to not to need to work as a waiter. So my job did not match with my status. “I am attending the local university in the fall and I felt working before hand will help me get settled into town ahead of time.” I hoped this explanation was enough to say “I am trying to blend in” yet not sound to odd to the humans near by. Even though I was not a part of her pack it is an insult to lie to an Alpha or Luna. “I am sorry I shouldn’t have asked. I was just surprised. My daughter Leia” she looks at the young lady with the long chestnut hair, “will be attending the local university in the fall, along with her friend Casey” as she looks at the young lady with the short blonde hair. “It might make myself as a mother worry less if I knew they had someone to help them acclimate.” I am surprised by her suggestion. I know the relationship between the coven and the local pacts are peaceful right now but she has just met me and she wants me to help two young ladies blend in with the humans. “I am honored you would suggest that but I am a little confused as you don’t really know me.” The Luna smiled “I am usually a good judge of character and there is something about you that makes me think I can trust you, including the fact that you asked that. I know my husband and I would greatly appreciate knowing there was someone who was keeping an eye out for the girls.” I smile. “I am honored you would trust me. I would be more than happy to keep an eye out for the young ladies. Leia and Casey is it!” Casey looks annoyed at this conversation. “Mother I am sure Casey and I can manage on our own.” She clearly does not feel she needs a man to look after her. There is something about her that catches my attention. She is beautiful and spirited. “I am sure you can Leia but it would just make your father and I feel better knowing that you two know at least one other person as you get settled.” “Miss Leia, Miss Casey what will you be majoring in when you start classes” I ask to try to break the tension between Leia and her mother. Casey replies “I am going into the nursing program and Leia is going into pre-law.” I get excited “I am a pre-law student as well. To be honest it will be be nice for me to know someone at the university as well so you would be doing me a favor as well. Will you ladies be staying in the dorms or finding an apartment?” The Luna replies “we were thinking an apartment or small house on the edge of town would give them space to run so to speak.” “I understand if you like I got to know the different areas of town when I was looking for my apartment, I would be happy to show the girls around and help them find a place to stay that would be perfect for them. I am off on Tuesday if that would be acceptable.” Leia was clearly coming around to the idea of spending time exploring the area. I was thinking it was more about getting to see the town beyond just the shopping areas more so than my friendship but at least this might give me a chance to find out why she was here. The Delta’s daughter studying nursing meant she wanted to go back and work in the pack hospital so that was understandable. If Leia were an Alpha or Beta Male I would think they were pre-law so they could make sure pack contracts and treaties were airtight but an Alpha daughter that is different. “That will work” Casey says. I smile at her. “How about we meet here at 10 am then on Tuesday. Now before I get in trouble let me get your drink orders.” I set off to get their drinks and wait on my other tables. I can’t keep my thoughts from Leia. There is something about here that intrigues me. I have to admit I am looking forward to getting to know her better.
