Episode One
Olivia Dubois ~ Diary Entry # 1 Broke Her Tell me if this is what love is all about? The tears I shed, my heart has bled. I kept my fears safe, locked away in my head. Now where only my memories tread. His words play like a broken tune in my head. I broke her, but she will be alright. I tried to rip those dreadful words away he said on that most sacred day, but they are double stitched in my heart. He exposed me to unimaginable pain. As if I were dead. And if I should fade away. Words unspoken, unsaid, I write them to be read.” The Past-1984 Thirty minutes before the plane was to land in Paris, France, Leonard Crush opened his eyes after a long nap, noticing his beautiful wife sitting next to him fidgeting. "Baby, did you get any rest at all?" "No, how can I? It’s my first time being away from my baby girl," his wife replied, feeling pathetic. "Honey, Deja is six years old, and besides, your mother is babysitting her. Doesn’t that give you comfort? Well, it gives me comfort. I think your mother did an excellent job raising you. I couldn’t ask for a better wife." Her husband says, looking at his wife admiringly. "Don't get me wrong. I love my mother. But even when I was a kid, all I remember my mom doing was working. My older good for nothing siblings had to babysit me." "But your mother agreed to take Thursday and Friday off from her job so we can have a long weekend in Paris." "Yes, I know, but that was after I suggested paying her extra for the days she'd miss at work. I don't want to sound like I'm complaining about my mother. I know as a single parent, it must have been hard for my mom, especially with three extra mouths to feed. Maybe I should have stayed home with Deja myself." "And miss your best friend's wedding? I wouldn't have heard the end of that if you had made that decision." Leonard lovingly puts his arms around his wife’s shoulders. "We are going to one of the most romantic places in the world! So let's enjoy our little vacation together. I'm thinking, Mrs. Crush, if you are a good girl, I can make you a mother of two." He said, winking. Pamela snickered at her handsome husband. "You always make me laugh. I promise from this very minute. I'm going to focus on my best friend's wedding and being with one of the sexiest men alive, my husband." "That's my girl. Give me those sweet lips." Fifteen minutes before the plane landed at the Roissy-en Airport that afternoon, Pammie went and changed in the airplane restroom into her matron of honor gown for the wedding. She did this because time wasn’t on their side, and as soon as they retrieved their luggage, the couple took a taxi straight to the Intercontinental Paris Le-Grand hotel, where her best friend was getting married in an hour. Since the two best friends lived quite a distance apart, Pamela was looking forward to meeting the groom in person. Her girlfriend, Olivia, had told her some fantastic things about her soon-to-be-husband. He was a very wealthy and established man, almost ten years her senior. Olivia had become the envy of the single ladies in Paris for taking one of the most charming eligible bachelors off the market. ***** Mr. and Mrs. Crush rushed to the hotel so Pammie could have a few minutes with her friend before she walked down the aisle. Before Pamela had arrived, the bridal suite was filled with merriment. The bridal party of girls playfully teased the lovely bride. “Girl, you reeled in a big one! What? Six feet three and robust and fine!” “Somebody's lonely, boring nights will soon be a thing of the past. Now, Livy, your nights are going to be filled with hot passion!” Another says, “I heard those exotic men could be some freaky!” One bridesmaid exclaims as they all burst into laughter. The bride replied in her French accent, laughing. “Stop it, girls! Sandy, help me pin my hair. My makeup is going to become a runny mess, ladies!” By the time Pamela finally made it to the bridal suite, the atmosphere had changed. There was a crazy commotion going on. She walked into the room where the bride was sitting with her uncle and auntie. "Baby, tell us what that call was about?" The bride's aunt asked her. Olivia was weeping into her uncle's handkerchief when she looked up with tears pouring from her eyes. She sees her friend Pam. Immediately she gets up, hugging her dear friend. "Oh Pam, it's a disaster!" She cried out. “Sweetheart, what is a disaster? Did something happen to your fiance? Was he in a car accident or something?” “No. It’s far worse.” Olivia sobbed out through trembling lips. The single syllable, one word, wasn't what she expected to hear. But, given the circumstances, it was the last thing any bride, bridal party, family, or guest could anticipate. It was just one word, but it was enough to shatter the happy, festive atmosphere of what should have been Olivia’s most beautiful day that had turned into a nightmare, something she could never have imagined. Things unfolded quickly, only seconds after the uncle had just stood in front of her, smiling encouragingly at his niece. Then, she had taken a call from her fiance, and after that, Olivia could barely speak, saying, “He’s not coming.” Now the celebrant uncle was shouting. "I'm gonna kill him!" The bride’s uncle was shouting obscenities, and no one knew why. Finally, interrupting his rage, his wife tells him to talk to the officiator—the uncle storms out of the room. When the realization in the bridal suite hits everyone as to what’s going on, the room becomes filled with weeping bridesmaids, with Pammie trying to calm the disturbed party and family members. Pamela didn’t know what to say other than hold her dear friend. Things had gone dreadfully wrong. Pammie’s heart went out to Olivia. She knew how long her friend had been waiting for this day. But now that it’s finally here, it’s a disaster! Like most girls, Olivia had always dreamed of wearing a dazzling white gown and silver high-heeled shoes, while her handsome groom beamed as he said his vows. Finally, she thought it all would be official, and she would be Minhyun’s wife, no longer Olivia Dubois but Olivia Choi. ‘Until death do you part?’ Yes, 'until death, part us.' Then, after that, she would be Minhyun’s, and he would be hers for the rest of her life. The idea was so excellent that it had stopped her thought processes, as did this catastrophe! It left her unaware that she was yelling out loud. "I've been lied to and made a fool out of all this time!" The bride uttered, crying. It took tremendous strength for her to speak the following words, "He said, he’s not coming." Everyone's mouth dropped. All involved knew it was terrible news! Hearing the bride say it aloud, the groom ended the wedding. A large tear rolled down Pamela's cheek, hearing those words come out of her friend's mouth. She couldn’t believe it, not for one second. The bride’s uncle returned to the shocked bridal party, letting them know that the venue's bridal organizer agreed to stop the ceremony and let the guests know the wedding was canceled. "I'm so sorry, I'm so sorry," Pamela repeated to her friend, wiping her tears away. Once the guest heard the shocking news, they filed out of the venue. You can listen to the whispers filling the hallway to the exit. Pamela suggested that the bridal party and the bride's family leave after the guests had cleared the building. Then, seeing the rage in the bride's uncle's eyes, Pamela nodded to her husband Leonard to talk him down into a calmer state. "Did he give any explanation for his actions?" Her auntie asked Olivia, still weeping. The bride swallowed hard. It was too embarrassing for her to say, but everyone braced themselves. Trembling and full of pain, the bride broke down and said to everyone in the room, "He told me he was married." It was like she said the words, and all the oxygen left her body. Then, Olivia fainted! "Hold her! Hold her before she falls to the floor!" Her auntie yelled. The heavenly sky rumbled. The uncle went charging to the door like a bull seeing red. Pamela's six-foot-five-tall husband could barely stop the bride's raging uncle. All the bridesmaids huddled around the bride, weeping and fanning her, while Pam removed Olivia’s veil and tossed it aside. In all the commotion, someone called for an ambulance. It arrived with the paramedics rushing into the room, lifting the bride onto the stretcher. Olivia’s eyes opened momentarily and rolled closed. The very thing Olivia Dubois had tried to avoid on this day came to fruition. ****** Instead of enjoying an exquisite romantic getaway, Pamela and Leonard spent the next three days in Paris, mainly at the hospital by Olivia’s side. Pamela Crush spent that time reassuring Olivia, her best friend, that she had dodged a bullet. One thing she and Olivia had in common: they both were realists. Olivia believed she would have ended up in a miserable union with a man who was a liar, had no respect for women, and probably had more dark sides than she could ever imagine. Olivia felt physical pain she'd never experienced before in her life. Her neck hurt, and her eyes, too, her heart filled with heavy grief and disappointment. The exhaustion and pain took their toll, and all Olivia wanted to do was sleep the rest of her life away. But, Pamela knew her friend needed more consolation. However, she had other obligations she had to attend to at home. "Darling, you know I have to go back to the States so I can take care of my little girl." "Yes, I know. I'm so sorry you came so far for nothing, Pammie." "I'm happy to be here for you, Livia. I wish I could stay longer." "No, I understand you have that precious little girl, and Leonard has to get back to work. Thank him for coming, and tell him I'm so sorry." "We know you would go out of your way for us too. We love you, dear, and I will call you as soon as we land in America." They tearfully hugged, not wanting to let each other go but knowing they had to. Two days had passed, Olivia had been discharged from the hospital. She slept two days straight before awakening when she realized that she hadn’t heard from Pammie and Leonard. What could have happened? Olivia will have to be informed of more terrible news. The plane crashed with Pamela and Leonard Crush aboard. What will that mean for the little six-year-old girl, Deja Crush?
