Diary entry # 360 However, today and each day, it's starting to resonate with me with every breakfast, lunch, and dinner we shared, that she was here to stay. It soon dawned on me that she was indeed in my care to raise her, from a little girl to the day she is a woman. The little Pearl had a smile that could brighten anyone's day. She was so precious to me. Deja filled a part of my heart that was void and left for dead. ********** An hour or so before it was time for Deja to go to bed, Olivia each night gave careful thought to the kind of book she wanted to read to Deja. She wasn't oblivious to the fact that Deja was not the same race as she, and Olivia knew that it could be a challenge for Deja to encounter others who might ask her why her mother was Caucasian and she was African American. Also, whatever story she reads to Deja, the book has to be uplifting, exciting, and one that has a storyline showing that she could do and become anything she wanted to when she grew up. So, Olivia went into her library in her home and browsed the books on the new bookshelf. She had Ms. Frenchmen order a ton of books for Deja to read and have at her disposal anytime she has a thirst for knowledge. "Mmm...what book will I choose tonight?" Olivia asked herself. Picking up one book after another, she finally chose one. "This book looks interesting." The title of the book was Amazing Grace. Olivia read the introduction that read; Grace loves stories, whether they're from books, movies, or the kind her grandmother tells. Grace longs to play the lead when her school decides to perform Peter Pan, but her classmates point out that Peter is a boy. Besides, he wasn't black. With the support of her family, Grace learns that she can be anything she wants to be, and the results are excellent! "Well, I think Deja will enjoy this very much!" She said excitedly, taking the book off the shelf as she headed to Deja's bedroom to tuck her in and read her this uplifting book. Reading her stories every night made their bond grow ever more vital, and Olivia could feel her heart filling with joy and love as she spent these special times with Deja. One night after reading her a bedtime story, Deja didn't appear to be very sleepy that particular night. So, Olivia asks little Deja a question, moved to share her feelings with Deja for the first time in this way. "Do you know how precious you are to me, Deja?' Olivia asked the little girl while sitting there on her bed. "I'm precious to you, Miss. Olivia?" "Yes, my darling. You are like a precious pearl to me. Do you mind if I call you Pearl?" "Do you like pearls a lot?" The child asked with a sparkle in her large almond-shaped eyes. Olivia smiled. "Yes, I do. Do you know how pearls came into existence?" "No, I don't think so," Deja responded, keenly anticipating to hear how pearls are created. "Well, pearls are made when a minor irritant finds its way inside an oyster. Have you ever seen what an oyster looks like?" "I don't recall if I've seen one before," Deja says, thinking. "Hmm... I'll pull up a picture of one on my cell phone. Wait one second." Olivia says, googling a picture of an oyster. "Here you go, this is an oyster." "Do you like oysters, Miss? Olivia?" She asked with a slight frown on her cute little face. "Yes, I know they don't look very appealing. But the oyster is an amazing sea creature, and it produces something very, very valuable." "What's that?" Deja asked. "Pearls, my dear!" Olivia says excitedly. Deja looked at the picture again, saying, "It does?" "Yes, as I was saying a minute ago, pearls are made when a minor irritant finds its way inside an oyster. The oyster has to be vital and determined and have the strength to overcome that irritant or difficulty it goes through. In time, due to the oyster's determination, it makes a beautiful pearl. That little oyster took something difficult for him to deal with and turned it into something beautiful, precious, and most of all valuable. " "I want to be like oysters?" The little girl says, all bright-eyed after hearing the story. "Olivia laughs, "You are far more beautiful than an oyster, and I admire your determined spirit, and you are a strong little girl who will grow to be a strong, amazing woman one day." "If you like pearls, then you can call me Pearl." Deja smiled up at Olivia. "My Pearl, I know I will never be able to replace your mother. Pamela was a wonderful woman and my dearest friend. And whenever you want to talk about your mother or your father, Leonard, please don't be afraid to do so, okay." "I do think about them often, and I still miss them a lot," Deja said in a quiet tone. "That's why I don't want you to hesitate to talk to me about them. Since your mother and I have known each other since college, when you get just a little bit older, I'll tell you some of my favorite memories I have with your mom. Like how your mom met your handsome dad and how the two fell in love with one another. Oh, and the day your mom found out she was pregnant with you. Boy! She was so happy! We both cried tears of joy when we learned you were on the way." "Really! I can't wait to hear all those stories! Will you tell them to me as bedtime stories?" "Sure, happily. But Pearl, your mother was very special to me, and I want to be special to you. You are so precious to me. So you don't have to call me mom, but how about mama Olivia? Huh? Huh?" Olivia asks, tickling Deja's little tummy. "Yes, I like that, mama Olivia. I'll do my best to remember." "Thank you, my dear. Now it's time for you to get your beauty rest. Good night, my Pearl." "Good night, mama Olivia," Deja says as they hug, and she is tucked away for the night. Though Deja tried hard to remember, and most times she did, there were times, in the beginning, she would forget to say mama Olivia and have to correct herself. But before long, it came with ease and was a normal part of her ordinary greeting day and night. ********** One morning at breakfast, after sitting at the table, Olivia held a conversation with Pearl before she was taken to school. Pearl tells her that she wants to be just like her mommy and mama Olivia when she grows up. It made Olivia smile brightly to hear the child express that. "You know what, Pearl, I'm going to see to it that you do far better than your mother and me. You are going to do incredible things many will never forget! How does that sound?" "I like that, mama Olivia. I like it." "Great, so you do well in school, okay? Kiss me, and I will see you later this evening." So they hugged and kissed, and off to school. Deja got inspired. Olivia sat at the table a little longer that morning, reading the newspaper's business section and reading about this fortune, five hundred companies on the brink of financial collapse. Then, she reads in the paper that the CEO of that company had been admitted into the hospital and had been suffering from a nervous breakdown for the past week! With a strong black cup of coffee in her hand, Olivia found the article she was reading quite humorous. "Ms. Frenchmen! Ms.Frenchmen! Please hurry, I need you to bring me my leather journal on my nightstand, please! This article is priceless information. I've been inspired and I need to jot this down immediately!" Ms. Frenchmen handed her the diary, wondering what was going on in her brain this time? You never know what new idea Lady Dubois will come up with next. It was true. Olivia did have this brilliant idea in her head. It was the start of a brand new concept that she needed to jot down and brainstorm how she could implement it into a future business. There was no denying Olivia was some sort of genius. She took ideas from articles and developed them into extraordinary money-making events and investments. There weren't many people like Olivia Dubois. Only a few people could do what she thought and make them successful. One being her father. Now that it's been almost a year, Pearl (Deja) is in a good routine with her daily activities and schooling. However, Olivia realized she had more time on her hands, and now was the time to begin re-evaluating her priorities. Diary entry # 401 Today is the day I've decided to go back to work and be a working single parent. Humiliation deserves humiliation. Deja, I will one day share this with you, and when I do, you won't have to lift a finger. All you will need to do, my dear, is implement the steps. I'm doing this for you, your parents, and myself, my daughter. Once you read this, you will fully understand. One day I will tell you how all this came about and why I felt the need to put this plan into action. Step 1. Several different businessmen came into their offices that evening, and some poured themselves a drink, while others didn't even bother. But on each of their desks, they found a professional rose-colored envelope. A sweet-smelling aroma escaped the envelope when they opened it, compelling them to take a sniff. The reaction from each was exactly the same. "Mmm..." They uttered it in a quiet tone. Enclosed inside was a note with a picture. Written on it was the name, Dubois. Most businesses received many letters and invitations from other companies and even females, but this was not quite like any of the others. The contents are pulled out, and they each find a note. Embossed in gold penmanship, the note inside reads; "You don't know me, but I've had my eyes on you for a while. I heard there are some exceptional men in Europe who have some great businesses. I'm told you're the best at what you do. If you feel that's true and you are the best, then give me a call at the number below. Maybe this multimillion-dollar offer is something you might be interested in. It's a deal that can give you a life-changing experience. If you suit my bill. " Dubois Inc. Paris France 1-233-168-2457 A week later, an attractive smile came across many of the men's lips as they stared at her picture that each of them held in their hand. They were sniffing the note's alluring aroma once more. Several days went by, and every time each guy came into his office, he could smell her presence even though he had never seen her before. Feeling compelled, one by one, each picked up her picture and read the note once more. None of them could resist the scent, as it permeated the male senses. Finally, they all told themselves, 'no more stalling," picking up the phone, they each, one by one, made the call. After that day, they each had set their sights on a new venture! They do not know precisely where this venture would lead any of them. Rich, powerful men love to take risks. They become fueled with a renewed zeal and excitement over the idea of it! They all anticipate meeting her with a new desire. Not sure of what they would face, she left a good impression on them, believing she was worth the risk without even meeting her in person. They will all face the most challenging decision in their lives, bringing about a whirlwind change that will forever remind them that they are responsible for making her the woman she is today. Diary entry # 365 Whenever you bring a group of handsome men and beautiful women together, sprinkle a little romantic tension between the opposite s*x, then add millions of dollars as an appetizer. Then, with a bit of compromise and some sensual negotiation, you can make anything happen.
