CHAPTER 1 COMATOSE
CHLOE POV I don't remember much about the night I went into a coma. One moment, I was walking home from a late shift at the diner, and the next, everything went black. The world around me is a blur. I can't make out anything. I feel disoriented, and my head is throbbing with pain. I try to speak, but no words come out. My body feels heavy as if I'm trapped in a never-ending dream. It's only when I hear the beeping of the machines and the hushed buzz of the doctors and nurses that I realize where I am. I am in a hospital, and I have no idea how I got here. "What happened to me?" I asked, my voice barely above a whisper. "Chloe, you've been in a coma for six months," a doctor said, approaching my bed. "We weren't sure if you were going to make it." The doctor's words hit me like a ton of bricks. Six months? How was that even possible? I couldn't remember anything that had happened before I went into the coma. I couldn't even remember my name. As I looked around the hospital room, I saw my father and sister sitting next to my bed, tears in their eyes. I tried to speak to them, but my throat was dry, and my voice was barely audible. "What happened to me?" I asked again, this time louder. My father took a deep breath and began to explain what had happened to me. He told me that I had been attacked by a wild animal, a wolf, on my way back from work. A group of hunters had found me lying unconscious on the side of the road, covered in blood, and with deep claw marks all over my body. "We thought we were going to lose you," my sister said, her voice cracking with emotion. "But you didn't," I said, trying to sound reassuring. "No, we didn't," my father said. "But Chloe, something strange has happened to you." I looked at him, confused. "You're different," he continued. "You have this aura around you, and you're sensing things that you shouldn't be able to sense." "What do you mean?" I asked, trying to make sense of what he was saying. "I mean, you're different, Chloe," he said, his voice filled with concern. "We don't know what happened to you in those six months, but it's like you've been reborn. You have these heightened senses, like a wolf's, and it's like you can read people's thoughts." I looked at him in disbelief. Was he serious? Was this some kind of sick joke? But as I looked around the room, I could feel something different. I could sense things that I never could before, like the scent of the flowers on the windowsill, or the sound of the machines beeping in the hallway. "What's happening to me?" I asked, my voice shaking with fear. "We don't know, Chloe," my sister said, tears streaming down her face. "But we're here for you, and we'll help you figure it out." But as the days went by, I began to realize that no one could provide a tangible explanation for what had happened to me. I felt like I was living in a nightmare, trapped in an unrecognizable world. As I lay in my hospital bed, staring at the ceiling, I realized that I was alone in this fight. I was in constant pain, both physical and emotional, and I was filled with rage. I wanted to know who was behind my ordeal, and I vowed to unveil the mystery behind it. But how was I going to go about it? That was still sketchy to me. And as I closed my eyes, trying to find some solace in sleep, I could feel the weight of the unknown pressing down on me, like a wolf waiting in the darkness, ready to pounce at any moment. When I woke up again, I was no longer alone in my room. My father and sister were sitting by my bedside, their faces etched with concern. My father, a man of few words, simply took my hand and gave it a gentle squeeze. My sister, on the other hand, couldn't stop talking. She peppered me with questions, asking how I felt, what I remembered, and if I was hungry. I tried to answer as best I could, but the truth was, I didn't remember much of anything. The last thing I remembered was going to bed, just like any other night. And now, six months had passed. Six months of my life were a complete blank. As I lay there, trying to make sense of what was happening to me, a nurse came in to check on me. She was young and pretty, with long, curly hair and a friendly smile. But as she leaned in to adjust my IV, I caught a whiff of her scent. It was sweet, but also musky, like the smell of wet fur. Suddenly, I was hit with a wave of nausea, and I pushed her away. "Get away from me!" I shouted. "What are you? What have you done to me?" The nurse looked taken aback, but my father and sister rushed to my side, trying to calm me down. "It's okay, Chloe," my sister said soothingly. "You've just been through a lot. You're not yourself right now." But I knew that wasn't true. Something had happened to me during those six months I was unconscious. Something that had changed me in ways I couldn't even begin to understand. As the days went on, I began to notice other strange things about myself. My senses were sharper than ever before. I could hear whispers from across the room, smell scents that were imperceptible to others, and see things in the dark that no one else could. I started to do some research, trying to find any clue as to what had happened to me. But every doctor I spoke to simply shook their head and said they'd never seen anything like it before. Then, one day, I got a lead. I overheard one of the nurses talking about a man named Dr. Wolfgang, who was conducting secret experiments on patients at the hospital. She said he was looking for subjects who had experienced near-death experiences, in the hopes of unlocking some kind of hidden potential. My heart raced as I realized that this was the key to unlocking the mystery of what had happened to me. But as I dug deeper, I began to realize that Dr. Wolfgang was not just some mad scientist looking to play god. He was a werewolf, and he was using his experiments to try to create a new breed of super-werewolves, with powers beyond anything the world had ever seen. I knew I had to stop him, no matter what it took. But as I dug further into the rabbit hole, I realized that the truth was far more complicated than I ever could have imagined. My own family was involved in Dr. Wolfgang's experiments, and they were willing to do whatever it took to see them succeed. As I battled to uncover the veracity of the secrecy and take down Dr. Wolfgang's operation, I found myself drawn deeper and deeper into a world of werewolves, and danger. And as the full moon rose high in the sky, I knew that my fate was no longer my own. I was a werewolf now, whether I liked it or not, and my destiny was tied to the pack that had created me. The road ahead was filled with countless obstacles and enemies. But I had no choice but to keep moving forward. I had to find a way to master my newfound powers and use them to bring down Dr. Wolfgang, his allies, and their evil operations. I took a deep breath and tried to steady my racing heart. The revelation that I was now a werewolf had hit me hard. I had always thought that werewolves were just a myth, a fairy tale to scare children. But now, I was living proof that they were real, and it was both thrilling and terrifying at the same time. I knew that I couldn't let my newfound condition get in the way of my mission. I had to find out who was responsible for putting me in a coma for six months and why they did it. Dr. Wolfgang seemed like a good place to start, but I had a feeling that there was something bigger at play here. As I lay in bed, I could hear the sounds of the hospital around me. The beeping of machines, the soft footsteps of the nurses, and the hushed voices of the doctors. I closed my eyes and tried to focus on my senses, the way I had been doing since I woke up. It was strange, but I could feel strange things that I never could before. The slightest change in the air currents, the faintest smell, and the softest sound. It was like my senses had been amplified, and it was both overwhelming and exciting. But as much as I tried to focus on my new abilities, my mind kept going back to the pack. What did they want from me? Were they watching me? Were they waiting for me to make a mistake? My thoughts were interrupted by the sound of the door opening. My father walked in, a worried look on his face. "Chloe, how are you feeling?" he asked, pulling up a chair next to my bed. "I'm okay," I said, forcing a smile. "Just a little tired." "I talked to Dr. Wolfgang," my father said, his voice low. "He said that some kind of animal attacked you. Do you remember anything?" I shook my head. "No, I don't remember anything." My father sighed and leaned back in his chair. "This whole thing is just so bizarre. I can't believe someone would do this to you." "I know," I said. "But I'm going to find out who did this, Dad. I promise you that." He reached out and took my hand, giving it a reassuring squeeze. "We'll figure this out, Chloe. I won't let anything happen to you." I smiled weakly and closed my eyes. I was grateful for my father's support, but I knew that I couldn't rely on him alone. I needed to find out who was behind all of this, and I needed to do it fast. I had no idea what was waiting for me. But I was more determined than before to find out the truth, no matter whose ox is gored. I spent the next few days poring over every detail of my medical records, searching for any clues about what had happened to me. But nothing stood out as particularly unusual, and all of the doctors and nurses I spoke to seemed to be just as baffled as I was. One afternoon, I was sitting alone in my hospital room, staring out the window and lost in thought, when I heard a faint scratching at the door. I frowned and turned to look, but there was no one there. Then, I heard it again - a low, guttural growling that sent shivers down my spine. I slowly stood up and moved towards the door, hesitantly placing my hand on the handle. As soon as I touched it, the door burst open with a loud crash, and I stumbled back in shock. Standing in the doorway was a tall, imposing figure, with piercing green eyes and a wicked-looking grin. "Hello there, darling," he purred, taking a menacing step forward. "I've been waiting for you." My heart raced as I backed away, searching for anything I could use as a weapon. But the figure simply laughed, closing in on me with each step. "You should have stayed in your coma, little lamb," he growled. "Now, you belong to me." At that moment, I realized that I was far deeper than I ever could have imagined. As I gathered my thoughts, I heard a soft knock on the door. It was the nurse, checking in on me. "How are you feeling, Chloe?" she asked, with a hint of concern in her voice. "I'm okay," I replied, unsure if I was telling the truth. "I'll give you some space then," she said before leaving the room. I could sense the feeling that something was off. The more I thought about it, the more convinced I became that Dr. Wolfgang and his colleagues were involved in some sort of twisted experiment. But I had no evidence to back up my suspicions. As I lay in bed, I thought back to the day I woke up from my coma. The sensations coursing through my body were otherworldly, like a surge of electricity. And the more I tried to fight them, the more intense they became. It was as if I was being reborn, transformed into something other than human. I knew I couldn't trust anyone at the hospital, not even the doctors who had saved my life. They were all part of the system, and I was an outsider, a freak of nature. But I refused to be a victim, a pawn in their game. As the day wore on, I became increasingly restless. I needed to get out of the hospital, to find some answers. But I had no idea where to start. Just then, the door opened, and in walked my father and sister. They looked relieved to see me awake, but I could sense that something was bothering them. "What's wrong?" I asked, sitting up in bed. "It's about your medical records," my father said, his voice tight. "They're missing." "What do you mean, they're missing?" I asked, feeling a cold knot form in my stomach. "I mean they're gone," he replied. "We requested them, but the hospital claims they have no record of you being admitted or treated here." "That's impossible," I said, my heart pounding. "I've been here for six months. They have to have something on file." "That's what we thought," my sister chimed in. "But when we tried to access your records, they kept stonewalling us." I felt a surge of anger and frustration. It was as if the hospital was trying to erase my existence, to cover up their tracks. "I have to get out of here," I said, swinging my legs over the edge of the bed. "I need to find out what's going on." "We'll help you," my father said, his face set in determination. But I knew I couldn't rely on them alone. I needed allies, people who were willing to fight alongside me. And I had a feeling that I would find them soon enough.
