commentary This story was originally written in 2014 not long after I walked out of my high school for the last time, after an incident that reminded me a little too much of Columbine for me to feel safe ever returning there. Thankfully no shots were fired, but police cars and armoured vehicles swarmed the place and arrested a 14-year-old boy for plotting to carry out a school shooting. The previous evening a janitor had found a very detailed hit list that had fallen to the floor — or perhaps dropped on purpose as some would argue — and called the police. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the last time g*n violence at school would make its way into the community I lived in at the time. In 2018 it happened again at the local high school I’d once attended as a student doing correspondence classe
