Chapter 19

1115 Words
The two brothers started reading and read for two hours straight. Teo was already used to reading and loved it. He could probably read all day long and stay awake all night as well if he liked what he was reading. Mosi on the other hand hadn’t read much the last 3 years so spending this two hours reading was a bit harder for him. Mosi would only read what he had to read when he was in school. Reading was never his hobby. He prefered exercising with his dad and sparing whenever possible. He liked outdoor games and played catch as well as basketball and soccer with his dad every once in a while.  This wasn’t fortuitous; each brother had their own forte. Teo was a natural bookworm, what you could consider a nerd or a geek. He had learned the term “hikikomori” from reading japanese novels and he believed he could fit as one perfectly. He would be glad being a hermit and staying indoors all day reading.  Even though he didn’t have a gaming computer or a gaming console to play, so he somewhat didn’t deserve the tag of geek. However he knew that if he could play he probably would spend as much time playing as he did reading.  These two brothers were naturally disposed to complement each other. The strengths of one were the weaknesses of the other. They still hadn’t realized this and they wouldn’t realize it the short term. But in a couple of years they would come to know that their team work would be so much stronger because of these differences.  “How far into the book did you get Mosi?” “Surely not as far as you though I admit that doesn’t make me feel good. You are almost 10 years younger than me but read faster, you are also smarter. Even though my grades were pretty good in school I had to make an effort for that. You’ve never studied at home but your grades are the best.”  “Don’t feel bad. You know I read practically everyday and love reading. Besides how would I not like to read this? I finally got the chance to make my dream come true! Aren’t you excited to learn everything you can learn and become strong like those main characters in novels, anime, and movies?”  “It has never been my dream to become a main character... Well... Maybe when I was your age or a bit older I dreamt about being a hero but I quickly got over it. I translated that feeling to becoming a professional soccer player and taking our team to the World Cup finals or something similar.” “It’s more or less the same thing isn’t it?” “I’m not too sure it’s the same. Becoming a famous sports player, be it baseball, basketball or soccer would garner you fame and money. Lots of girlfriends as well! Teo made a face like “eugh” and Mosi looked at him and laughed.  “I know you aren’t interested in girls yet, but in a couple of years that will change you know? Man and woman were made to be together after all.” “Let’s not talk about that brother please. Let me be a kid and enjoy my childhood. Now, enough chit chat we already read for two hours so we have to discuss what we read and take notes!” “Ok Teo, let’s go to the dining table so we have enough space for both of us.”  They moved to the dining room and sat down on their usual spots. They took out the notebooks that their grandma gave them and prepared everything, pencils, erasers and sharpener. “So, stop avoiding it and tell me what you read. How far did you get?” “Not that far, I only read the first few chapters. It’s all basically what grandma told us yesterday but a bit more detailed. How far did you get?” “I guess we read more or less the same thing then! So let’s start making our notes then? If grandma gave us these notebooks it must be because either she’ll examine us or maybe to help us commit to memory everything we read. Remember we are supposed to learn what the book says!” “Yes! It might have been a long time since last I read as much as today but when I was in school I was also a very good student! If I put in a lot of work I’ll easily be able learn this book by heart if need be!”  “Then let’s make a summary of each chapter we read. I think that might be the best way. If we make a summary it will help us remember about the chapter in general. What do you think of that?”  “I think that’s a wonderful idea Teo. We could also exchange our notebooks after we finish to check each other’s notes and compare.” “Okay! Let’s do that! It will definitely be very good to exchange them at the end. We can help each other and that can help guide our discussion of what we’ve read and learned.” So the brothers started writing down their notes and everything they deemed important from what they read. They would check the book for particular details, names, and places. Before the allotted time of up to 1 hour had passed Elisa arrived home.  Once Elisa arrived she decided it would be best to check on the kids without them noticing so she entered the house while being invisible and not making any noise. Elisa walked to the dining room and saw them sitting down taking notes and making a summary. She looked over their shoulders to see what they were doing and realized that they had very different approaches.  While Mosi’s notebook was full of written text Teo’s had lots of titles and subtitles. Teo also had what appeared to be some diagrams or mental maps. It spoke volumes of the way their minds worked. She decided to go back outside the house and enter once more so that they didn’t realize that she had spied on them.  “I’m back kids! How has it gone so far? Have you been working hard?” “Welcome home grandma!” both Teo and Mosi said in unison.  “We’ve been working very hard!” “We’re almost done with the first block of work. When we finish processing the information we’ll trade notebooks and correct each other's work and discuss about it.” Oh! These two kids keep surprising me! That is a very interesting and productive approach! By doing that, both of them will guarantee the best possible understanding of the text. This first book isn’t complicated at all. It’s just a basic introduction after all. But It will get harder and harder the more they advance.  “Well keep working hard then! I’ll start preparing a feast to celebrate you first day of discipleship!”
