Chapter 6

Mosi had no clue what the blood oath implied. He didn’t know what he had to do, he guessed he must have to do something. He wondered how to ask about the procedure when Elisa started speaking.  “I guess you don’t know how to do the blood oath, so allow me to guide you through the process. It’s nothing particularly complicated.” Elisa took out a peculiar looking knife from who knows where. It had an ivory handle and the blade seemed to be made of silver. It didn’t look like normal steel at least. The blade also had some markings on it, it evoked an idea of something celtic.  “To make a blood oath life energy from the parties involved is required. It won’t affect your lifespan so no need to worry about that. However you could feel weak and lightheaded after doing it depending on your constitution. Average humans have been known to fall unconscious after performing one.”  “How do I make use of this life energy you mentioned? Anything else I need to bear in mind before we proceed?”  Elisa couldn’t hold herself back before she blurted out the question that burned in her mind when she heard his questions , “You don’t even know how to make use of your life energy?” Mosi didn’t know how to answer to her question so he simply said what first came to his mind. “No... Is it normal to know such a thing? Besides doing this and becoming invisible you obviously are no average human. Just who are you?”  “It’s hard to explain how to make use of your life energy so out of the blue. Mmm... I’ll simply guide you through the process so we can be done with this and go inside.”  Elisa masterfully ignored his questions and proceeded with the ritual so they could get finished faster. She was astounded at the ignorance of this guardian. She found it truly hard to believe that her daughter had left her child in the hands of someone like him. It’s true he seemed to have amazing potential and an uncanny sensory ability but without proper training and education it was all a waste.  “Before we begin, do you remember what I require you to swear?” “Yes of course, you want me to swear I won’t attack you right?” “Ok very good. I’ll begin first and make the oath out loud. After I’m finished I’ll repeat the same process on you and while I’m drawing your blood you will also need to make the oath out loud. Any doubts?” “Yeah I got plenty but I think that with you going first I’ll be able to follow by example with no problem.”  “After you finish emulating what I did we will grab each other’s hand connecting our bleeding fingers to seal the pact, understood?” “Ok I understand.” said Mosi with a resolute face. He was thinking that if this was all that was required to guarantee his brother’s and his safety it was a very simple and short procedure.  Elisa looked at him in the eyes to look for any hint of a lie or scheme in them. When she was satisfied that he appeared to be telling the truth and seemed not to have any hidden intentions she decided to proceed.  Elisa made a short chant in a language that Mosi had never heard and he noticed the air around them getting heavier. The air was pulsating with a certain rhythm. At this moment Elisa raised the knife with her right hand and made a small cut on the index finger of her left hand. The blood started flowing from her finger into the markings of the knife without spilling out. She kept the knife pressed to the wound until it was filled half way which only need a couple drops of blood apparently. After the knife’s markings were filled with the blood; the blood started shining a bright red. After this, Elisa proceeded to speak in a calm unhurried manner. “I solemnly swear that I bear no ill will towards my grandson and this man standing here with me. I mean them no harm whatsoever. I guarantee that I won’t hurt them in any way either intentional or not; starting today and in the future days to come.”  Mosi was surprised at the turn of events. It seemed this was more magical than he originally imagined. He was prepared for something like this coming from a lady who could become invisible at will but he couldn’t help being awestruck.  After saying her oath Elisa moved slowly and grabbed Mosi’s left hand repeating the same process she did with her own finger and filling the remaining half of the knife. After the knife was completely filled with blood it started shining with a particularly intense bright red light.  Even though Mosi was awestruck he didn’t want his grandma to think ill of him so he didn’t waste anytime and proceeded to say his part.  “I solemnly swear that I won’t harm Elisa or take advantage of the fact that she swore not to harm us.” Elisa seemed satisfied with his wording and beckoned him to get closer. They grabbed hands and placed their index fingers facing each other with. Both their hands were intertwined forming an “X” shape since they were holding the left and right hand of the other standing facing each other.  Their left hands was on top while the right hands were below. After holding hands Mosi realized that if both their hands were holding each other’s, where was the knife?  He then realized that the knife had been floating in the pulsating air like it was the most normal thing in the world. The blood inside the markings was still shining brightly but it had also started pulsating following the air’s rhythm.  After a short while, less than a minute most likely, the blood in the knife’s markings started separating from the knife and kept the shape of the markings. Both the knife and the blood were floating in mid air but the now the blood was moving toward their index fingers. The blood then proceeded to wrap around their fingers and after feeling it wrapping tightly around their fingers the pulsating air rushed towards the blood. When all the air had disappeared, so did the markings that had been on their finger’s skin just a second before.  Mosi then felt weak in the legs and almost fell to the floor. He managed to steady himself and was marvelling at the memory of what had just transpired. He was carefully feeling the restraint he know felt. It wasn’t overbearing but he did manage to determine a slight difference in how he felt before and how he felt now beyond the fact of the weakness he felt.  He looked at Elisa questioningly. “That was all, right?”  Elisa felt weird. She knew everything had turned out normally but she did feel a resonance that was beyond her knowledge. That resonance is one of the characteristics of blood relations. She couldn’t find any explanation for it so she decided to proceed with the original plan.  She seemed quite satisfied with how everything had proceeded and didn’t waste any time asking, “ Yes it was. So, since we are done, are going to go inside now?” “Yes, yes of course.”  He couldn’t help but notice that he felt connected to Elisa, as if they had known each other for years and were lifelong friends. It was a progressive feeling that started the moment the oath was finished and kept increasing slowly but surely.  Mosi took out the keys while walking towards the main entrance. He couldn’t help but noticing that the wound on his finger had already closed completely. He unlocked the door and went inside the house. He took off his shoes at the entrance and turned around to look at Elisa to tell her to do the same.  However without needing to say anything he witnessed how she willingly took off her own shoes before proceeding into the house.  “Welcome to our humble abode, Miss Elisa.” said Mosi half serious half mockingly.  Elisa smiled mischievously and said, “Well thank you very much Mr. Mosi for your hospitality.” “Teo! I’m home! Come say hello to your big brother! I’m not alone so come out dressed!” After hearing “big brother” Elisa didn’t process it right away. She didn’t connect it with the feeling she had after finishing the blood oath.
