Chapter 7

“May I offer you anything Elisa? A glass of water maybe?”  “I’m good thank you. I’m looking forward to preparing the fabulous dinner I offered I’d prepare.”  “I can’t say I’m not excited at the idea of having a nice dinner prepared for me once again.” After this short exchange Teo came out and hugged his brother. “Mosi, is this the lady that came knocking on our door earlier today? Is she really our grandma?”  Our grandma? “Our”? Elisa was stupefied after listening to that. It’s impossible right? It can’t be!  When Mosi turned around and saw the frozen look on Elisa’s face he didn’t know what to say.  “Sorry I didn’t tell you sooner Elisa. I wasn’t sure if I could trust you, you see? And yes Teo; this lady here is Elisa. She claims to being our grandma and is going to perform a blood ritual with you to demonstrate that she is indeed a blood relation of ours.”  After hearing this Elisa broke out from her stupor and finally breathed again.  “You two are brothers? Are you really Carmen’s sons?”  “Yes, we are.” “Grandma you look so young! Don’t grandmas look older? With white hair and wrinkles on their face?”  Elisa smiled brightly after hearing Teo’s words. This young lad surely knows how to make an old lady feel good and refreshed. “How about we proceed with the ritual so we can be certain of the truth? You’ve already been through it Mosi so you know it isn’t dangerous or harmful at all. I didn’t notice the feeling at the start but now I do. Don’t you feel a connection towards me?”  “Yes I do, I noticed it right after we finished the ritual. What does that mean?” “That feeling only comes when the parties involved are related by blood. It means you are my grandson. Now let’s check little Teo here, is that alright?”  “I can guarantee that Teo is my little brother, I witnessed my mother’s pregnancy after all.”  “I don’t doubt your words but nevertheless I would very much appreciate if we could do what we were going to do from the start. I was to do a blood ritual with little Teo so we could prove beyond any shred of doubt that I’m Carmen’s mother, your grandma.”  “Does it need to be now? Isn’t it better to do it after dinner? After all you just said that you and me are blood relations, so if you are my grandma and the ritual has already been done there is no need to hurry with another one right?”  “Mosi, what’s this ritual you are talking about?”  “I’ll explain everything to you while grandma prepares dinner Teo.” Mosi said while smiling lovingly at his brother.  “Grandma is going to cook for us? Shouldn’t we cook for her since she is a visit and we are hosts? That’s what you taught me after all.”  “You are right Teo, but she wants to cook for us so why would we stop her? It’s not like she is a neighbor, a friend or a distant relation. This is our grandma!”  “Ok kids, very well. I’ll cook dinner while you guys talk or whatever. I just need some help before starting to get to know the kitchen and were everything is. Why don’t you help me with that and then let me cook?”  “Well said grandma! Let’s go to the kitchen Teo, we’ll help grandma getting to know the kitchen and then I’ll tell you all about the ritual and the rest of the day while she cooks.”  All three of them walked towards the kitchen where Mosi and Teo helped Elisa get everything she was going to need to prepare dinner. Whatever they said they didn’t have she would say that it wasn’t a problem and that she would figure it out.  After getting her ready to go they offered to help with anything else. Seeing she didn’t want any help they proceeded to leave and talk amongst themselves.  Teo was very interested with everything that happened during the day and especially with the ritual they kept mentioning at the end. After all he was a very curious kid with an incomparable thirst for knowledge.  When Mosi started telling him about the morning and how he felt watched but there was no one there Teo didn't think much of it at first. But when Mosi arrived at the lunch part and how someone answered from nowhere and more so how their grandma had appeared out of thin air he couldn’t help but be open-mouthed.  Mosi after seeing his brother amazed to the point of freezing with his mouth opened couldn’t help but giggle a little and help his brother closing his mouth.  “Mosi is that true!? Did she really come out of thin air? Didn’t your eyes play tricks on you?”  “Well, I can’t say for sure if my eyes didn’t play tricks on me. But I’m telling the truth when I tell you that one moment she wasn’t there and the next she appeared out of the blue just in front of me.”  Teo found it unbelievable to say the least. However he had no reason to doubt his brother’s words so he urged him to continue the story.  Mosi continued the tale but what came next was another big surprise for Teo.  “A magic bag?!” “Well, I don’t know if that’s how it’s called, but yes it was quite magical from my point of view.” “It’s impossible she took out so many things as you say! Are you really being honest with me? Appearing out of thin air and a bag that has so many things inside? Brother if you don’t want to tell me anything just say so but don’t fool around with me with these kind of things.” “Why would I lie to you? I know it’s quite fantastical and I also know you are into fantasy and stuff. Am I not the one that buys you the books that you read? But yes, everything I’m telling you is true.”  “Well then keep going! You still haven’t even gotten to the ritual part!”  The brothers kept talking while Elisa was preparing dinner. She was acting in a mechanical kind of way. She was doing everything in “automatic”. She was completely self-absorbed in her thoughts.  Is it really possible Carmen had two kids? In our lineage it has only happened a couple of times in thousands of years and most of those happened to be twins. The only cases where two pregnancies happened was after the death of the firstborn and very big sacrifices had to be made to ensure the continuation of the line. If Carmen really had two kids with no help from either of the sects then this is a gift from God. Gift from God? Wait... Is it really?  Elisa started rummaging in her bag for a while until she got a very old looking book. She started checking the book completely concentrated on reading the text. Mosi’s name was most likely selected by the father since it literally means “firstborn”. But why put that name to a kid when they should have known they were only going to have one?  After a while the book in Elisa’s hands fell to the floor. Only shock could be seen in her face.
