I woke up in the infirmary.
Darius was asleep in a chair beside my bed. His hand was holding mine.
“Alpha Kade said you’d live,” the healer said. “Barely.”
I tried to pull my hand away. He gripped tighter. Even asleep.
“Let go,” I whispered.
His eyes opened instantly. Silver. Terrified. Relieved.
“You jumped,” he said. Like I was crazy.
“You would’ve died.”
“So would you.”
We stared at each other.
“Why did you do it?” he asked.
I didn’t have an answer. Or I did, and I was too scared to say it.
“Mira is fine,” he said. “Minor concussion. She’s asking for you.”
“Good.”
Silence.
“Darius,” I said.
“Yeah?”
“I’m not forgiving you. Not yet.”
“I know.” He brought my hand to his forehead. “But thank you for choosing me anyway.”
The healer cleared her throat. “Alpha. Give her space.”
He nodded. Stood. Let go of my hand.
At the door he paused. “For what it’s worth… I’d die for you. Again.”
Then he was gone.
My wolf didn’t growl. She just… whined. Soft.
