Chapter 1

Amani's POV

"Amani!"

"Amani, wake up!"

"Ugh, 5 minutes!" I shout back.

I hear foot steps coming up the stairs and I know that it's my mother because she's the only one who ever bothers to make the effort.

I feel the blankets being pulled off of me and I groan because now I know that I'm not going back to sleep.

"Amani, you have to wake up because you know that we have a long day ahead of us."

"I don't know why the palace is forcing everyone to attend this stupid thing."

My mother looks at me for a moment and she looks like she's about to say something but then decides against it.

"Just hurry up Amani, breakfast is almost ready and for once it would be nice to eat in peace as a family and not be at each other's necks."

Ever since I turned 14 the family meals in this house have never been the same because my father, brothers and I always end up fighting because I don't submit to them and apparently that's disrespectful. I am a strong believer of respect having to be earned and I'm not going to respect every male I come across simply because they are stronger than me.

"Okay mom, I'll be down in 10"

After getting up and making my bed, I quickly clean myself up in the bathroom and head down for breakfast. Where I found everyone is already seated so I quickly take my seat next to my sister and grab 2 pancakes and some orange juice. I look up and notice my father looking at me so I continue looking at him until he scoffs and looks away and I internally smirk knowing that I made him uncomfortable. Breakfast goes by surprisingly well until my father begins to talk.

"The palace is holding a three-day event were all must attend expecially girls of ages 18-24 so that means Amandine and Amani will be going as the main guests and everyone else here will attend to represent the beta family of this pack. Now, I have to set some rules before we go to the palace and I'm pretty confident you all know how to behave and follow the rules" he then turns to look at me "well except from your little sister here who thinks she is above everyone else. Amani, since you belong to the beta family of this pack, no one can hurt you but that does not mean it will be the same thing at the palace so you must remember to behave before you embarrass this family. You must submit to to your superiors. You are just like any other she-wolf he only difference is that you come from the beta bloodline but you must learn your place."

My father looks at me, daring me to say something and of course me being me I do exactly that.

"I will not submit to anyone who is my equal because I have some respect for myself. I don't know why you think that just because you are male you deserve my respect. You can lock me up in here if you want but just know that the royal family will feel disrespected." I look around the table, stand up and leave my very much fuming father and brothers.
