My heart was racing beyond control. As much as I was confident that the herb I wanted would help to stabilize him while the researchers still tried their best, I was scared something wasn't right. The beta didn't look like he would try to harm his alpha, but there was no length Isobel couldn't go to put me down. When they thought I was useless, she was the devil I saw with my eyes. Talk of now that I made a name for myself. Before everyone in the room, I administered the Moonroot to Alpha Samson by applying it to his part of the body that was wounded so it would neutralize the rogue venom as much as it could for some days. I believed that if his system didn't react to the root, he could be awakened after it was used on him, and then we would work on getting rid of the poison entirely. Once I was done, I turned to the prince, “It takes about one hundred and forty minutes to get a result. So I hope you all will be patient enough.” “Everyone would leave this room, now!!” he ordered, and we left all together. I was taken aback by his voice in the hallway, and he was scolding his mate, who came to the hospital with Isobel. I truly didn't understand why the lady would go this length, annoying the prince, whom I was still trying to draw back to her. When the prince began leaving, and she couldn't get his attention back, she walked straight to me and slapped me hard across my face, tears in her eyes. I felt her pain, so I was even too weak to fight back. I understood how she was feeling, the same way I felt towards my sister years ago, and couldn't fight back. Watching as those tears rolled down her face, yet she couldn't even speak, I walked close to her and wiped them away with the back of my palm. She said nothing, just glaring at me with her chest rising and falling heavily. “Believe whatever you want! Say what you want! Do what you want! It's not your fault, nor is it mine.” I said and sniffed, battling with my own trauma once again. “Even when it gets tough, keep going until you win.” She stepped back from me, blinked, and heavy tears pulled down her face once again. I wanted to embrace her, to change the prince's mind towards her so she would be at peace and not be traumatised like I was. The last thing I wanted was to be a peacemaker between her and her mate, and I hoped they would resolve soon. When Isobel felt I was trying to melt the heart of her ally with my spell, she stood and took Olivia with her to where she had been seated. She kept whispering to her, sparing me glances, and I guessed she was still poisoning the lady's mind towards me. But they weren't my issue at that moment, and I hoped the root wasn't bringing an end to me. For a week now, I hadn't gotten home and had stayed behind in the hospital even when others left, sacrificing my time as a healer, for a patient whom I wasn't supposed to cross paths with again, so I wouldn't like all my efforts to just be in vain. ___ “It's a hundred and sixty minutes, and I intentionally added an extra twenty minutes to it,” the prince said, sparing us glances. “Now, let's see who's following my guards,” he scoffed and walked into the ICU first. If the prince hadn't always been around, I could be punished for all the drama that had been ongoing in the ICU recently. I marched in, my heart throbbing faster against my chest. I was praying inwardly that all Penelope's effort to see that I got this career wouldn't become in vain, or I'd just assume that the moon goddess mistook my creation. A faint scent passed through my nostrils, more like a wolf's scent. I was stunned because I could not detect a wolf scent…so I shifted the thought aside and walked closer to where Alpha Samson lay. Xavier purred into the air, “Take a look at his vital signs…” he said, and walked towards the monitor. “There’s seventy percent possibility of him reviving.” I took a look at the monitor, and my lips circled in shock. Then I walked to his body and checked his pulse, but he suddenly opened his eyes, and the shock caused me to shudder, and I staggered backwards. The sight of him awake, although not moving so well, stirred attention. The lycan prince looked at him intently, his jaw dropped in shock, and he smiled at me. I felt so much at ease, like chilled water was poured down from my head. “Alpha Samson, can you hear me?” the prince asked, and he nodded gently. “Do you feel your wolf?” he nodded again to his question. “Try speaking….” I was fighting back my tears, very happy that nothing was tampered with. “Annette!” I heard a whisper that faded slowly, yet I turned around, only to lock gaze with Alpha Samson. His lips moved once again, “Annette!!” My chest tightened in pain. How dare he still recall my name? He doesn't seem worthy to pronounce that name again. The prince clapped his hand, and the door opened, revealing the two hefty men I had known worked for him. Then he ordered, “Take the werewolf Luna and Olivia to the prison. I will discuss what would be done with them.” Olivia?! I rushed to him and got to my knees. For heaven's sake, he shouldn't go this far. “You can't do that to your mate. She must have been deceived… “That's why she needs to learn her lessons,” he cut me short and began helping me to stand. “No matter how much I hate, I still want to find out the truth.” My heart dropped into my belly, and he didn't sound like he was having a change of mind. The one I wanted to face the penalty was Isobel, so I told the men to stop when they were about to take her away. I walked towards her, wearing an innocent smile, and without saying a thing, slapped her so hard that she lost her balance and slammed her butt on the floor. “I didn't cross the line, but just gave back to you what you gave me,” I muttered and walked back to stand behind them all. She was so shocked, and everything happened too fast. The men dragged her up and took her out of the ICU. She couldn't fight back because she was still reasoning about what I had just done to her for the first time in her life. When Olivia wasn't taken along with Isobel, I thought it ended there. But a few seconds later, two other men walked in and took her with them. Watching as they pulled her like she was a criminal broke my heart. I wanted to shriek at the prince, but I would get myself into trouble. “I was so scared the root was tampered with.” Xavier ended the silence in the room. But Alpha Samson's beta chipped in, “It was!” We all turned to him. “One of my men betrayed me and did such, but I found out and mercilessly had some of them take him to the palace, wounded from my beatings. I'm not going to forgive him for trying to betray my alpha,” he explained, and I wasn't shocked at all, knowing who tried to play such a trick. That was why she had a strong mind towards it, not knowing that she failed this time. “What did the Moonroot do to him?” the prince asked, and I explained that it would suppress the venom's strength for days, and I hoped that then, there would be a cure. “If that's the case, then we must follow our agreement,” he muttered and turned to the others, “You all should leave us.” We were finally left alone, and I was already sweating, knowing what he was up to. “He can accept the rejection now, and that is the only way for you to be safe, too. So reject him right now!” he ordered, and the words sank like a bomb in my ears, causing my heart rate to fasten.
