Annette. I glared at Isobel with everything in me, trying not to bite my tongue. If Xavier wasn't fast enough to get hold of me, I would have slammed my arm on the wall. “Alpha Samson is my mate, so why do you think I need a spell to have him back when the matebond is stronger than a spell?” I lashed out, looking her dead in the face. “Matebond can be rejected. But let's talk about the prince since you think it that way…” Olivia said to them, drawing my attention from Isobel. “Why are you all over the prince when you know that he's my mate?” I shook my head, “I have nothing to do with the prince, and I'm just the royal healer. What about you settle the beef you have with him instead of accusing me of this? Do I look like I have any interest in him?” “Oh, you shut that crap!!” Isobel snarled at me, pulling a strong expression. “Everyone knows how you go about using spells on men, so they pick up interest in you, because you know very well that they wouldn't give a damn to a wolfless thing like you. You probably became a healer with the spells, so where's the lie there?” My gaze landed on the very person causing all this, and simply left the ICU with Xavier and the rest of the nurses with us. When Isobel’s accusation of me was eating me up, the prince assured me he would handle it if I truly meant to reject Alpha Samson. At first, I didn't mean it. But knowing that this was my only way to prove that I had nothing to do with Alpha Samson again, I finally gave in with the depth of my heart to reject him once he was awakened. The prince also made sure his father did not summon me, or order that Samson be taken away, or maybe look into the petition against me, until I was done with Samson. Which by then, I would properly reject him, and he accepts it, so we won't be affected by the severed bond. It had already been a week, and his beta wasn't back yet, nor had the researchers come up with a remedy. And now Isobel was trying to cause another drama here by claiming that I was using a spell, as some believed. ‘I’ll just ignore her and not give her the attention she wants.’ I told myself and leaned on the wall where I sat. Hours later, while I was taking a nap, still seated there, Xavier called me back to reality and announced that Alpha Samson's beta was back with his men, and they had gotten the Moonroot I demanded. I jerked from the floor and ran into the ICU, where they were waiting. Isobel was still there with Olivia, as though they had an unfinished plan, but I paid less attention to them and moved to the beta. “You really did a nice job.” I complimented him. He put up a smile and lowered his face a bit, “I want him saved, so I will do everything possible to achieve that.” “Shut it!” Isobel picked up on the man. “How do you think she will save him? And who said Moonroot is a herb for treatment?" My brows furrowed, “Are you insane, Isobel? Why talk down on my prescription? And this isn't a place to make a hell of noise….” I sneered at her and turned around, walking to the bed where Samson was still lying. “What a fake healer telling me when to talk and when not to. That's Moonroot, and it is used by witch doctors to prepare a spell, so tell me what you're doing with it if not to hold back my alpha to yourself?” she said, walking towards where I was. At that moment, the lycan prince walked in, and Olivia rushed to him. I spared him a glance, hoping that he wouldn't disregard his mate, but he slowly shifted away from her as though she was a mess to him. Seeing that made my traumatic past flash in my mind again, and I breathed out. “You need to stop, Annette. Don't use that on my alpha!” Isobel yelled, yanking my arm away from the alpha's body. “I'm talking to you as the luna of my pack… “What is it exactly?” The prince picked up interest as she wanted and reached out between us. He glanced at our faces, wearing a thick scowl. “Why are you stirring drama in the ICU?” he asked Isobel, who cleared her throat. “Your highness…” she mentioned and licked her lips. “I'd known her more than you do, and this root she's holding is used by witch doctors, so it isn't a herb, but a spell,” she said, took a deep swallow, and continued. “I'd petitioned the king, but you don't believe me because you all are blindfolded by her acts. Annette is a cursed child and is a disgrace to our family and the whole pack, which is why Alpha Samson rejected her and banished her from the pack.” Something stirred in me for the first time, and I just wanted to shred Isobela apart. I turned to the prince and corrected that instantly, “First, you never knew I was alive, so there's no way I had a business with the attack on your pack. Second, I wasn't rejected or banished, but simply left on my own and ain't coming back again, so stop being scared and wait for me to treat your alpha, so you can take him with you out of here. There are so many patients that I need to attend to.” ‘“Liar!” she growled at me, her brows knitted. “You will deceive this clan and not me. If all those aren't true, then why are his parents fighting to take him away because you're the healer administering treatments?” The prince cleared his throat just when I wanted to bash at her. He turned to Isobel, “You insist that the Moonroot is a charm and not a herb that would contribute to his health?” he asked, and Isobel nodded firmly. “Fine! It's very simple!!” He stepped backwards and folded his arms. “A healer who administered wrongly to a patient and it led to a negative result is bound to be stripped of their career, imprisoned for a period of time with hard labor. And whoever conspires or sets up a healer to fail in their field, is bound to either execution, severe torture for days, or exiled, depending on the severity of the crime.” A lump rose to my throat upon hearing all that. I took a good look at the root, and it was indeed Moonroot, but with how confident Isobel looked, I became scared that something must have been tampered with, and she wasn't tired of her dirty games in the past. “Now, Annette will administer the root. If it doesn't have a positive effect on his health, we would assume it's indeed a charm and that she's been doing this a long time. Agreed?” the prince asked, and Isobel nodded, wearing a smirk. I moved my gaze to the prince, down to Alpha Samson's beta, and then Xavier, who kept nodding at me. If I had obeyed the clan council and left Samson, Isobel wouldn't have come into my life again.
