Bound By Contract

Sophia could not wave away the joy that was in her heart as she stared at the email she received on passing the interview to become the executive assistant to the CEO of Bellevue Luxury Enterprise. This is the role that she has been working in for years. As she sat on her bed beaming with pride, still in shock that she was not going to make it this far in passing the interview. Maya walked in, her face wore a smile as she saw her best friend smiling at her phone screen. She greeted her as Sophia told her about the promotion. Her eyes widened as her smile enlarged. "I am so happy for you, Sophia. You've been such a hard-working lady, and I think you deserve this position," she said as they both hugged. "But this is still a surprise for me because I thought I wasn't going to be taken. I told you how nervous I was that day, and now, I can't believe my eyes," Sophia said as their eyes locked in a gaze. "C'mon girl, you have worked for it, so accept it and move on. I was about to tell you that the food is ready; let us eat so that you can go to work; have you told Rylan about it?" Maya asked. "No, I haven't, I just received the email this morning, and that boyfriend of mine, he won't be happy about my promotion, only cares about his money, and that's all," Sophia said as her face changed on remembering Rylan. "Soph" Maya called. Sophia knows that she calls her Soph anytime she doesn't like what she says. "But that's the truth, I am tired of this relationship with Rylan, and because of his money, he thinks that he could get anything he wants," Sophia said. "But at the same time, he is such an amazing guy to be with, despite his toughness," Sophia said as her face lit up with a smile again, and they both laughed. As they sat down to eat, Sophia was still shocked by the promotion. "What if you break up with Rylan?" Maya asked as she hid her laughter, waiting for her response. "That can't happen, never," Sophia said as she dropped her fork on her plate and turned to face Maya. She knows when she is faking a straight face. "But you just said that you are tired right now" Maya said as she finally released her laughter and Sophia joined her. As Sophia walked into her office she was very much excited about how the place had been arranged. She was nervous because she had not seen the CEO before, and she had not taken the position of executive assistant in other places where she had worked. But she prayed that they work very peacefully with her. As she sat in her chair, her hands on her desk embracing the big and well-furnished office, a tall young man with broad shoulders, dark hair and piercing dark brown eyes that could see through if you walked in, Sophia disliked him from that moment. "Good morning. How may I help you?" Sophia asked. "You must be the new executive assistant, right?" He asked. "I am Sophia Wilson, the new executive assistant," Sophia said, feeling uneasy about his presence in her office. " I am James Bellevue, the CEO who you will be working under. Nice meeting you, Sophia Wilson," he said as he smiled at Sophia and he walked out of the office. Sophia was very much getting along with the work which she had to do as it felt easier than the ones she was doing; she worked with a smile on her face throughout the day. When she came back home, Maya was already at home, and she noticed the smile on her face. She didn't hesitate to ask her how her day went and why the sudden smile. But before she could voice it out, Sophia knew that she would be confused about why she was smiling. "Work was fine, and I enjoyed working today," Sophia said as she sat on the couch. "Only that? Or is there any other thing I need to know?" Maya said as she raised one of her eyebrows, looking at Sophia while smiling. "Nothing else, but the only thing that made me feel somehow was my boss. I just met him today, and I don't like him, but he is very handsome, and I don't just like him," Sophia said as she frowned her face immediately. "You mean you don't like someone you just met today? You don't judge people like that Sophie. Is he like Rylan?" Maya asked. Sophia kept silent as she rolled her eyes; she remembered that the last time she dialed Rylan's number yesterday to inform him about her promotion, he didn't pick up and had not replied to her messages. She quickly picked up her phone from her bag as she dialed his number again. Maya just gets quiet with her eyes wide open, confused about the sudden change. "Hello, are you there?" Sophia called and waited for an answer, but what she got as an answer was silent until Rylan spoke up. "I CAN HEAR YOU, WHAT DO YOU WANT SOPHIA?" Rylan said annoyingly. Sophia, knowing the tone in which he speaks when he is angry, knew that he was furious, but was it her that made him angry? Sophia could not say a word for some minutes. "Rylan, you have not replied to my messages, and I called you; you didn't pick up and didn't bother to return the call. What have I done wrong? And don't shout at me like that, I didn't do anything to you”. Sophia said as she was about to cry, this is what she gets from Rylan almost every time she calls him or even when he visits her, she could not hold it any longer rather than say it out. "It is over between us, Sophia. I am so sick of you." Immediately, her tears seized from rolling down her cheek as she was left with an open mouth. “Rylan, you don't mean it, don't say that again”
