Alpha’s Possession
THE UNEXPECTED ENCOUNTER
~Amara Collins~
My heels clicked sharply against the marble floor, echoing in the silent lobby of Sterling Enterprises. My heart raced—not from fear, but from the icy, impossible presence waiting for me. I couldn’t stop staring at him. Lucas Sterling. Dark suit, sharp jawline, and eyes that seemed to see right through me. Everyone whispered about him, but no one dared confront him… except now, I was standing in front of him.
“Amara Collins?” His voice cut through the silence, smooth and commanding, and I felt my knees go weak.
“Yes. That’s me,” I managed to say, trying to sound confident.
He straightened, towering over me. “You’re late.”
I wanted to explain, but my words caught in my throat. The way he looked at me… like he knew every secret I’d ever tried to hide… made my stomach twist.
“I—I’m sorry,” I stammered, clutching my portfolio tighter. “There was traffic…”
He didn’t respond. He tilted his head, studying me like a predator assessing its prey. The seconds dragged on, unbearable. Then, with one decisive step, he closed the distance between us.
“Follow me,” he said. Not a request. A command.
I wanted to run, my instincts screaming, but I found myself trailing behind him, drawn to the dangerous magnetism he radiated.
The elevator ride was silent except for the soft hum of machinery. My pulse thudded in my ears. When the doors opened, I expected a grand office, but instead, he led me into a dimly lit boardroom.
“You’re going to be working closely with me,” he said, voice low and deliberate. “Mistakes… are not tolerated.”
I nodded, trying to ignore the flutter in my chest. Mistakes, yes. Fear… something else entirely.
He moved closer, inspecting my work folder. His fingers brushed mine, sending a jolt through me. “Interesting,” he murmured. “You have potential… but I don’t reward mediocrity.”
My stomach knotted. He was terrifyingly magnetic. I wanted to resist, to stay composed, but every fiber of me was screaming for him… in ways I didn’t understand.
Then he said something that made my heart stop.
“I like a challenge,” Lucas said, his eyes darkening, “and I intend to make sure you give me one.”
Before I could respond, his phone rang. He glanced at it, then at me. “Stay here.” And with that, he disappeared, leaving me alone in the room, my pulse racing, and a thousand unanswered questions swirling in my mind.
My hands trembled as I opened the folder. The first project he’d assigned me… a project that could make or break my career—was waiting. But in that moment, I realized something else: I had no idea what else Lucas Sterling intended… and I had a feeling it wasn’t going to be professional.
My phone buzzed. A message from an unknown number:
“You don’t know me yet. But you will.”
I froze. Was this a warning… or a promise?
And then the elevator doors opened behind me.
He was back. Smiling. Not the polite, distant smile I’d seen in boardrooms before—but a dangerous, knowing smile that made my knees weak and my mind spin.
“Ready to start, Amara?” His voice was velvet and steel.
I nodded, barely able to speak. Inside, I knew one thing for certain: nothing in my life would ever be the same again.
His hand rested lightly on my folder—but the tension in the room made it feel like fire. What did he really want from me? And how far would I survive… and maybe even desire… the Alpha who had claimed my attention?
