The Rejected Omega
Aurora's POV I lowered my head and tightened my grip around the basket of herbs I had carried back from the forest. Eyes followed me as I walked through the Silverfang Pack. Some pitied me while others mocked me. By now, I had grown used to the stares and whispers. I had learned to keep my eyes down, my mouth shut, and my footsteps quick whenever I passed through the crowded parts of the pack. Being the daughter of a dead warrior and a sick Omega mother had placed me at the very bottom of Silverfang's social hierarchy. I was a weak Omega, an embarrassment. A daughter of a nobody. At least, that was what everyone constantly reminded me. "Aurora!" The loud voice made me stop. I closed my eyes briefly before turning around. Three she-wolves stood in my path. Vanessa stood in the middle. She was dressed in expensive silk, her beautiful hair perfectly styled, and a triumphant smile rested on her lips, the kind of smile I had grown to hate. Vanessa was beautiful, rich, and powerful. And worst of all, she was Alpha Kael's chosen Omega. She looked me up and down before laughing. "Look at her," she said. "The pack's pathetic little stray." The other girls giggled. I sighed. "What do you want?" Vanessa's smile stretched wider. "I heard tonight is the mating ceremony." My heart skipped. Tonight? The mating ceremony. The Moon Goddess would reveal the destined mates throughout the pack. For years, I had secretly prayed for this night. I had dreamed that somewhere out there, someone would see my worth. Someone who would look beyond my rank, beyond my poverty, beyond my weak wolf. Someone who would love me despite everything. Someone who would finally make me feel wanted. Vanessa noticed the hope that had flashed across my face. She immediately burst into laughter. "Don't be too excited." The other girls laughed even harder. "You actually think someone will want you?" My fingers curled tightly around the basket. I dug my nails into my palms, forcing myself not to react. "Move." Vanessa stepped closer. "The only mate you'll ever get is a rogue." The girls laughed as they walked away. I stood frozen. Their laughter slowly faded into the distance. I stared after them, my throat tightening. The words hurt because a small part of me was afraid they were true. I had never been beautiful, never popular, Never special. Even my wolf was weaker than most. Sometimes, I wondered if the Moon Goddess had forgotten that I existed entirely. Taking a deep breath, I turned and continued toward home. Our low-roofed cabin sat at the edge of the pack territory, where the poorest members lived. The roof leaked whenever it rained. The walls were old. The wooden door creaked. But it was home. My mother was sitting outside when I arrived. "Aurora." Her weak voice immediately softened something inside me. I hurried toward her and knelt beside her. "Mom, you should be resting." She chuckled softly. "Resting? And miss seeing my daughter before her mating ceremony?" I smiled. My mother reached up and gently touched my cheek. "You look beautiful." My smile widened. "You're the only person who thinks so." "Then everyone else is blind." Tears unexpectedly filled my eyes. My mother always knew how to make me feel better. For a moment, I allowed myself to believe that tonight might change everything. Maybe fate had finally prepared something good for me. Maybe I would finally belong somewhere. Maybe I would finally be loved. Night arrived. The entire pack gathered in the ceremonial grounds. Hundreds of wolves surrounded the massive bonfire, their voices filling the night with excitement. I stood at the back of the crowd, trying not to draw attention to myself. The Alpha family sat at the front. And there he was. Alpha Kael Blackwood. The strongest Alpha in the region. Tall, handsome, powerful. Every female in the pack dreamed about him. I had admired him from afar for years. Not because I ever expected anything from him. How could I? He embodied everything I wasn't. Strong, respected, wanted. The ceremony began. One by one, wolves stepped forward. Mates were revealed, cheers erupted, families celebrated, lovers embraced. My stomach tightened with every passing second. I clasped my hands together and tried to calm my racing heart. Then suddenly, A strange warmth spread through my body. I froze. My wolf stirred inside me. A powerful pull tugged at my chest, My breathing stopped. No! It couldn't be. The bond intensified. My heart began racing. Across the crowd, Alpha Kael suddenly went rigid. The entire gathering fell silent. I looked up. Kael was staring directly at me. Shock covered his face. Then it happened. The connection exploded between us. The scent, the bond, the certainty. Mate. My knees nearly gave way. The Moon Goddess had paired me with Alpha Kael. The most powerful Alpha in the region. For one glorious second, happiness flooded my entire body. After everything I had endured, fate had finally chosen me. Me.The weak Omega everyone mocked. The poor girl nobody wanted, The daughter of a nobody. I had found my mate, my heart filled with hope. Then I saw his expression. Horror. Disgust. Disbelief. My happiness died instantly. Kael slowly stood. The entire pack watched. Nobody spoke. Nobody moved. My heart pounded painfully against my ribs. Please. Please don't look at me like that. Kael began walking toward me. Each step felt like a death sentence. The crowd parted as he approached. Whispers spread around me. I could barely breathe. When he finally stopped in front of me, our bond surged again. My wolf whimpered happily inside me. Mate. Mate. Mate. I looked up at him. Despite everything I saw in his eyes, a tiny flicker of hope remained inside me. Maybe he was only shocked. Maybe he needed time. Maybe, "I reject you." The words shattered my world. Silence followed. Absolute silence. I stared at him. Surely I had heard him wrong. "What?" His eyes remained cold. "I reject you as my mate." Gasps erupted around us. The bond twisted violently inside my chest. Pain exploded through my body. I stumbled backward. "No..." Kael's jaw tightened. "A weak Omega cannot stand beside an Alpha." The crowd began whispering. I felt every gaze burning into me. Every humiliation, every insult, every cruel laugh. All at once. Tears filled my eyes. "You don't mean that." For the first time, emotion flashed across Kael's face. Regret. For one heartbeat, I thought he might take it back. But the emotion disappeared almost instantly. "I do." The bond cracked. I screamed. The pain was unbearable. It felt as though someone had reached into my chest and ripped my heart apart with their bare hands. My wolf howled in agony. The crowd watched. Nobody helped. Nobody stopped him. I searched their faces desperately, hoping someone or anyone would show me mercy. Then I saw Vanessa. She was standing in the front row, smiling. Something inside me broke. Kael turned away. Just like that. As if I meant nothing. As if our bond meant nothing. As if the pain tearing me apart wasn't real. The crowd exploded into conversation. Then came the mockery. Then laughter. I couldn't hear the words anymore. The ringing in my ears drowned everything out. Tears streamed down my face. But I refused to let them see me collapse. I refused to give them the satisfaction of watching me break. So I turned around. And I fled.
