Chapter 8

IRIS POV

I felt my body burning with hatred for Enisa, she had unnerve me enough, and I had to teach her a lesson. But my plans backfired on me, I can't believed Prince Zaden asked me to apologize to that...ugh the thought of it really gets on my nerve.

How could he not see I was trying to teach her some manners, how dare she go behind my back and try to snatch my man away from me.

I had been watching her every move, she thinks she is so smart and can do her sneaky tactics without my knowledge and right under my nose, how wrong she was. Because from now on I won't let an opportunity slip by to make daylight her worst nightmare, she has just messed with the wrong person.

I stormed into my room and made for the dressing table , I throw all the things on the table on the floor and stared at the mirror in anger. "Your days in the pack are numbered Enisa, by the time I am done with you, you will never be able to show your face to anyone ever again." I said hitting my fist on the table. My wolf Starlie was growling inside of me, threatening to be unleashed. Just then there was a knock on the door, I snapped my fingers twice, and some maids filed in holding different trays of items.

On one of the trays had my dinner on it, I had already lost my appetite but I was on a diet and skipping dinner was not an option. I watched as they set the tray on a table and poured some juice into a glass. Some maids got themselves busy cleaning my room, while the others attended to my clothes, helping me change into my night gown. I picked up the spoon and took a scoop of the food and tasted it. Immediately I spat it out, and my face became red with anger.

"Is this poison? I said flinging the tray of food on the floor and in contempt my gaze shifted to the maids. "Who was responsible for tonight dinner" I shrilled in anger and they all trembled in fear, all of them refusing to utter a word. "Did I not just asked a question, answer me! "Which among you is to be held responsible for this food" I said and a maid stepped out. Immediately I walked up to her and slapped her twice and her cheek became red. I could hear some soft sob escape from her lips but I cared less.

" The first slap was for wasting my time, and the second for having the guts to prepare such a despicable meal, you are fired ! I said and immediately she went down on her kneels begging. "Please my lady, it will never repeat itself, please give me a second chance", she wailed endlessly and I felt irritated. "Get yourself out of here or I will call the guards to throw you out, now get lost ! I said and she scrambled out. I turned to the rest of the maids and they were all standing with their heads down, "what are you all waiting for? Get to work." I said and they briskly got to their various job.

Just then I heard the door clicked open, I turned around to see who had dared to open the door without my permission. I saw my mother came in, she snapped her finger twice and all the maids filed out, locking the door behind them. I watched as she galavants around my room before finally taking her sit on one of the chair set in the room.

"Venting your anger on the maid is not going to make matters any better Iris. You have lost your senses to anger that you raised your hand to an old lady." Mother said and I rolled my eyes. "Oh mother if only you can understand the way I feel, you will know better than to tell me what and what not to do, I am tired of always trying to explain myself." I said leaving the dressing table and making to where mother sat.

But her gaze was distant, she was staring into nothing in particular and had this unstinting appearance. "You are going to be Prince Zaden's Luna in the next two days, precisely the next full moon. If I were you I would try to create a good impression and stop wasting your time trying to get rid of Enisa" she said and now staring at me she smirked.

"Besides since you will soon be gone I decided to add a new member to the chapter," she said smiling

and I was totally confused. "What do you mean mother? I can not fathom out what you are ostensibly trying to say," I said and she broke into a stealthy laughter. "What I am trying to say Iris , is that you will soon have a baby sibling", she said and I spat the water I was drinking.

"What !...., Mother, how could you? Instead of you to focus on me you got busy making.....a baby? I said totally bewildered, why was I just finding out about this, what was going on in this woman's head. "Seriously Iris for once think, be like your mother, trategize ahead." She said but by this time I was no longer paying attention to whatever she was saying, her words kept reverberating in my head like some sick song. "Why was mother having a baby !

"Iris ! She shrilled out my name and I jerked back into reality, "Are you even listening to what I am saying? She asked , and I knew better than to say no. "Of cause mother , go on" I said trying to conjure a fake smile on my face. As if having a stepsister wasn't enough, I am expecting a baby sibling, oh gosh I have had a enough already.

"So..why exactly do you want to have a baby again? I asked and she slouched on the chair. You seem to have forgotten Iris, but I haven't, don't you get it? Getting married to Prince Zaden means loosing the throne." She said and it hit me hard. I had absolutely forgotten about that, I was so obsessed with my conquettish desire to be a Luna I forgot what really mattered.

If I loose the throne, Enisa will surely get it, and my life will be ruined. Enisa would make my life a living nightmare. " Mo.... mother you have to do something, Enisa can't be queen Luna, no this can't be happening" I said quaking as reality was beginning to dawn on me.

"This is not the time to act puerile Iris, you should thank your stars you have a genius like me or else all your plans would have been vilified. This is a big step I have taken, and I had it all planned from the beginning." She said and I was sweating profusely. Seriously mother stop beating around the bush, why have a baby when you could have easily have father change the law toy favour." I said feeling smart for coming up with such a electric idea. But the leer on mother's face read otherwise.

"Do you really think I am that stupid, not to have thought about that in the first place. Your father was proving as a detriment, he uttered gibberish about the law being an ancestral lineage and it cannot be tempered with." She said and I stared on in disdain. "What ! Those are just Orthodox believe, father should know better than not...uh, you know what? Just do whatever you think is right, as long as it keeps Enisa away from ever bestowing any authority over me then I am in." I said feeling the weight of the severity of the malady at hand, my head began to ache.

" Does father have any idea? You know of the...I said staring at her stomach, it felt weird saying it. "No he doesn't, and don't have to till I say so" she said and staring at me profoundly. "You must not say a word about this to anyone Iris.....no one should come to know of this", she said and I nodded my head in concur. I was too deeply intimidated by her piercing gaze to utter a word.

Just then I heard the shattering of a glass coming from outside the room. I gave mother a pensive look, someone has been eavesdropping on our conversation. I briskly went to inquire who it was but by the time I got there, there was no one by the door. Who could it be? This was suppose to be a secret, what happens now? Turning to the direction of mother and shutting the door behind me I made to where she was but she had this strange look on her face.

" There was no one at the door," I said and immediately she jerked up and I watched in subdue euphoria as she transformed into her wolf form. Like a predator after it's prey she began tracing the scent of whoever it was, and I followed her behind in my human form. She was a little bit swift but I was able to tag along with my human feet. Just then I heard her growled, I increased my pace and found her in her human form gazing at something. I walked a little closer and traced her gaze to the floor....."Ahhh" I yelled in panic at the sight I beholded. I walked up to the body and felt for any pulse but she was dead. "Mother! you've killed her" I shrieked in fear as I watched the maid swim in a pool of her own blood.

"This would teach her to mind her business" mother said in an intrepid manner, but I was too marvelled to say anything. I have never seen this side of mother before, how far....just how far will she go to alienate all her prey to get what she wants? I frenetically took some steps back, gradually increasing my pace I made for my room, but someone grabbed my wrist.

"Where do you think you are going Iris? Didn't you wanted to know what I had installed for the throne, you are coming with me," she said and I quivered in fear. "W..wh..what I do not know what you are talking about mother, I will be in my room if you need me I said and briskly turned to make for my room. "Don't move a muscle young lady or else you will regret it," she said but I had have enough.

I squeaked to my room and shut the door behind me. My heart was racing in my chest and I felt my body go numb.

"Mother..what have you done?
