Pierre went up the stairs in search of a warmer room. He saw a door on his left. He tried to open it, but it did not budge. He cursed and found another door. He tried opening and it opened. He stepped in and saw it was warm, much warmer than downstairs, perhaps because all the windows were shut and it was well enclosed. There was a large bed in it and a fireplace. Everywhere was still very neat. He walked to the fireplace and saw there was still some left over firewood left. He bent down and did exactly how he had seen the maids and other workers at home light the fire. He had to make about twenty attempts before the fire finally caught.
