Chapter Nine
2008 Words
"You don't have to walk to me to the car" I told Luke as we stood up from the side walk.
"Are you sure?" he asked.
I nodded "I will text you when I get home, alright?" I said as I took a few steps backward.
He smiled with a small nod "Already writing my first text of the night" he chuckled.
I gave him one last wave before I turned around and walked into the car. It only took me two seconds to regret agreeing to Kyle picking me up.
"Doesn't have the audacity to walk you to the car" Kyle mumbled.
"Oh wow, we're already starting this soon" I said "Should I get back out and ask Luke to take me back home then”
"Alright. Alright" he said "I'm sorry”
"Don't make me regret this, Kyle" I told him as I put my seat belt on.
He drove down the street in silence, not speaking a word to me. I enjoyed the silence through; the sound of the soft sound of my favorite album playing in the background as we passed the under the big trees on the road made every thing feel so much peaceful and calmer that it actually was.
"Did you have dinner?" he asked.
I nodded "We had Sushi" I told him."You don't eat sushi" he pointed out as he glanced at me for a second.
"I don't usually" I said "Chloe and Luke made me try it. I like it”
"Great" he mumbled before falling back into silence.
"What did you end up doing today?" I asked trying to ease up the mood.
"Practice" he simply said "Then we just hang around Dan's place for a couple of drinks and played some video games”
"Did you?" I asked him.
He shook his head "Just soda. I got practice early morning tomorrow”
"Cool" I nodded "How is that going anyways? practice and all”
He chuckled "What the f**k is this?" he asked "It's me Kim. It's us. We don't do this. We don't do small talks”
I sighed "I don't know how to talk to you anymore to be honest" I admitted.
"I'm listening" he said.
"I'm always scared these days of how you would react to the things I say. Nowadays, everything puts you in a mood and we fight whenever one of us opens their mouth”
“I promise I will try not to do that anymore” he said “That is if you promise that you will stop running away and doing stupid s**t”
I chuckled “The stupidest thing I ever did was becoming friends with you” I said “But I guess I will try if you try too”
“I don’t like that guy and I don’t support you seeing him” he pointed out “But I guess I will try to be okay with your friendship”
“Relationship” I hesitantly corrected him “And boyfriend”
He took a turn and parked in the empty supermarket parking lot. I was ready to walk home if he was about to start a fight.
He took a deep breath as his first tightened on the steering wheel “Do you think that this is moving a bit too fast?” He asked as calm as he possibly can.
“Perhaps” he said “Perhaps not”
He sighed “You barely know the guys and you’re already agreeing to be his girlfriend. What next you’re going to get in bed with him on the first date”
“See, this is what I’m talking about” I told him “I said one thing and you act all judgmental like this”
“I’m just pointing out the fact here, Kim” he said “You are literally jumping into this relationship with your eyes not knowing s**t about the guy”
“Take me home, Kyle” I told him “I don’t want to go anywhere with you right now. You are just angry and going to lash out no matter what I tell you”
“Because you’re being irrational” he said “You make stupid decision and being native and don’t want me to say anything about it. What’s next, you want me to stay out of your life completely, not talk to you and pretend everything you’re doing is okay?”
“Take. Me. Home” I told him “Talking with you about this is pointless. You don’t not approve me dating anyone for that matter of fact. You warn and threaten anyone who thinks of it. You just want me all to yourself”
“And what the hell is wrong with that?” He snapped “What is wrong with me wanting you for myself and wanting to be with you. You’re just being stubborn”
“Stubborn?” I said letting out a sarcastic laugh “You cannot force me to have feelings for you. I don’t want to be with you in a relationship, and I don’t feel that king of feelings for you either”
He let out a chuckled “We both know that you’re lying to yourself. I know you, and I know the way you kissed me that day in the kitchen was really and full of feelings. I know you have feelings for you”
“No, Kyle, I don’t” I told him “You’re just good at kissing and that’s that”
He went quiet for a minute before for a couple of minutes “This can’t work anymore” he said “We can’t work anymore”
I leaned back into my seat as I sighed and closed my eyes “You are over reacting to everything right now. You just need sometime to let this all sink in and accept what you don’t have any control over”
“Or I just need space away from you right now” he said “I need time for myself”
I didn’t argue with him. What he was saying was right. To get over things and learn to live with whatever decision I make, he had to take time on his own to reflect on everything that going on with us and the change that is happening.
“Okay” I agreed “If that is what you need, go ahead”
He nodded before turning the car back on and make his way back to the house in complete silence. We both went to bed not talking to each other. No goodnights and no apologies either.
I barely slept that night. I felt like I was a zombie throughout the school. When I woke up, Kyle has already left for school. During classes, he switched his seat to sit in the back with his friends without paying any type of attention to any of the classes.
I spent lunch outside today. Usually I’d sit with him and his friends, but since we weren’t talking I had no desire to sit anywhere close to them nor sit on my own in the cafeteria. The weather was nice enough for me to sit under the bleachers and work on some of my homework while eating with my headphones on.
‘Skip class with us?’ - Chloe
I smiled at the screen when I saw the text as I was changing the song.
‘Us?’ - Kim
‘Luke, Rio, Issac, and I” - Chloe
‘I took the liberty to drag everyone to the park in the parking lot before even asking you about it’ - Chloe
‘Don’t let us down. We came a long way to get you to have fun with us’ - Chloe
‘I won’t take no for an answer’ - Chloe
Skipping school wasn’t a good idea. I usually don’t miss classes for any type of reason other than being sick. I didn’t want to be here either, not without Kyle on my side as always.
I quickly packed my lunch back into my bag before sneaking off to the parking lot where Luke’s car was parked. It wasn’t hard to spot since it was the only car that was on. The car soon started to slowly move forward when the sound of the school’s security started calling.
I started running to the car just as Chloe opened the door and started calling out for me to run faster. Luckily, I was able to grab onto Chloe hand and jump into the car before the security got too close to recognize me.
“That was close” Rio laughed “I would love to see you get into trouble. I bet it would be the first time too”
“I thought you were coming” Chloe smiled as she gave me a side hug.
Luke smiled at me from where he was sitting in the driver’s seat throng the rare mirror.
“Kim” he simply said with a small smile.
“Luke” I smiled back before turning to Chloe again “What was so important that I had to skip classes for?”
“So many things” Chloe said “Like an empty mall, an half empty beach, and most importantly an empty lake that we are going too”
“I don’t have any swimming cloths or a towel” I pointed out.
“Neither do we” Rio pointed out “It was a last minute thing. We got towels though”
“And snacks too” Chloe said.
I leaned down to her ear when I noticed that Issac is not in the car “Issac?” I whispered.
“He’s already there” she whispered “With Ally and her friends. She invited herself and her friends to our plan”
“Lovely” I mumbled “Nothing can make a party better than a jealous girlfriend with a b***h attitude”
“Tell me about it” she chuckled.
I sat on the dock as I ate the snacks that Chloe packed last minute. Everyone was playing around and splashing water at each other in the pool. Rio was all over Chloe as was expected, Issac with
Luke, while Ally was tanning with her friends by the shores.
“Luke can do so much better than this quiet mouse” Ally’s friend said.
“Tell me about it” I heard Ally agree and followed by some of her friends humming in agreement.
Ignored their eyes on me, I stood up catching a smile from Luke before I did what everyone did earlier. I took off my clothes off leaving me in only my underwear and tank top.
Luke swam to the dock and offered me his hand. I gave him a smile as I sat down and allowed him to help me off the dock and into the water.
“Hey” he said with a smile the second I was into the water and eye level with him.
“Hey” I smiled.
“I missed you” he pointed out before placing a kiss on my nose.
“You saw me yesterday and the day before that too” I told him before swimming away from him.
“Did things go okay yesterday?” He asked.
Instead of answer his question, I held my breath and went underwater for a couple of seconds before appearing backup.
He smiled “That bad, huh?” He said.
