She was looking at the sick bag in her hands, she never had nausea in the airplane, however this was the fourth time she vomited, the woman next to her told her not to worry, turbulence was normal during flights, a bit shaky but not dangerous, she also gave her for the third time a napkin to wipe her tears. She knew she should stop crying or else her eye contact lenses might come out.
At that moment she was feeling like someone locked her in a tiny cage with her hands and feet wrapped tight, her mouth sealed and her eyes covered, she opened again her mirror to look at herself, her eyes were swollen, she continued looking at herself in the mirror, she couldn't recognize herself either, short brown hair, brown eye contact lenses, no make-up, there was nothing to remind of Paola Venn, now she was Lorena Arias, twenty-three years old, from Sarton city, finished school and worked as a nail technician to a hotel spa.
The airplane was turning, she never liked turns, she was feeling that the airplane was getting upside down, like when they would play on the swings with Bailey and Jessica, a small scream came out of her mouth, was it pain? stress? fear? all together? she didn't know. The pilot made the announcement that in twenty minutes they would land in Astor after a six hours flight, immediately she tried to find the powder in her bag, soon she was covering the redness under her eyes, he would be there to pick her up, would he try to kiss her? She didn't know how to react, her staying to Barrymore's agency felt like she was cut from the rest of the world for years, even though it was just for five months.
In those five months she rehearsed how to talk, walk, act and behave differently, learned how to do nails, lost her long blonde curls and had to embrace her brown short hair, she had to eat things she didn't like and stop eating the things she liked, what was driving her crazy was the fact that she couldn't smoke, everyone though knew that Paola Venn is fanatical smoker, she said many times in her interviews, that under no circumstances she would quit smoking but now, now she was a different person, going to live with a man she saw twice in her life as his girlfriend, in reality as the mistress who was the reason, he broke up with his wife to be with her. She didn't know why David Morgan accepted to do it, but what they had against him, must have been something very serious. The landing took her out of her thoughts. She took a deep breath and gave her new passport to the airport control, she had to remember that she was Lorena Arias, Paola Venn died in a tragic accident five months ago, living behind her family, friends and fans in deep grieve.
She was walking straight, not the way she used keeping up her posture, now she was a simple girl, a young girl who will finally be with her sweetheart or better, her sugar daddy. She knew straight away that the person standing next to David, hated her with all his heart, she could see it in his eyes and the way he looked at her when she hugged David.
‘'Welcome, you are finally here. Did you have a nice flight sweetheart?'’
‘'Couldn’t wait for the landing, it was quite bad actually'’
'’Now you are here with me, there is nothing to worry about'’ he smiled to her and immediately told her '’Let me introduce you my son Anthony'’
‘'Nice to meet you'’ Paola said and gave her hand to him, he left staring straight in the eyes, then he turned his back and walked towards the exit.
'’My family isn't happy about you'’ David managed to say.
'’I wasn't expecting something different'’ she replied.
'’This is as difficult to me as it is for you'’ he mumbled and then got the luggage from her hands, she didn't even know what was in that luggage but whatever it was, the quantity was minimum.
They entered the car and Anthony was the one driving, his grey Range Rover was cutting the street like an axe. To the third steep turn, she couldn't hold her vomit, she kept vomiting even when Anthony stopped the car and took her out of the car showing no feeling of compassion, he dragged her as if she was an animal that was making dirty his precious possession, his blue eyes looked so cold and his dark blond hair looked lighter in the sunlight, he was way taller than her and his body reminded her of Matthew, immediately her eyes filled up with tears, she clenched her jaw while she was still vomiting, she had to stop thinking about him, her tears, sadness and anger wouldn't bring him back to life! David was holding her while she was still vomiting, trying to do his best as a person who is in love with a younger woman who he is going to marry.
When she felt better she looked at him, he was still looking at her, scanning her, he looked so angry on her and she was feeling scared of him, he was very handsome but his bitterness was making him not so attractive.
‘'What are you looking at?'’ he said abruptly.
She cleared her throat and she replied him '’I am sorry, I didn't feel it coming and you were going too...’' He interrupted her '’You could just say it, people communicate!’
Under normal circumstances, Paola Venn would put in his place the arrogant, cocky piece of s**t, in this moment though, she was not Paola, she was Lorena, a young girl with no knowledge, no experience, a poor person marrying her sugar daddy. David put her to sit in the front and the route continued in silence.
The big gates of Morgan’s mansion opened as soon as the car of Anthony approached.
'’Amazing roses'’ she whispered.
'’My Mother planted them!’' he said abruptly.
She was standing in front of the main door; this house looked a lot like her own house back in Midmond.
‘'Xian will take you to our room, I have to go sweetheart’' he kissed her forehead and left in a rush. She walked reluctantly behind Xian who took her to a huge room, first thing was to notice the sofa bed, that would be her bed, she wouldn't let David sleep on the sofa, he got in too many trouble already for her.
The room had a white color with some light grey details, such as the carpet and the pillows, on the left side there where two armchairs and a chaise long next to the big balcony that you could see the rose garden. She didn't let Xian to arrange her clothes, she did it on her own, remembering to follow the instructions she was given. Once she finished, she sat on one of the armchairs, she took off her shoes and she crouched. She was tired of crying, her eyes felt so much pain, however she couldn't stop her tears from running. She was touching the ring in her hand...
'’If something happens to me, promise me that you will give to Detective Ross this’' Mathew’s words played in her head. It looked like a normal ring, he was always wearing it in his small finger, it had a tiny moon on top, from inside though had the passwords that were unlocking the database of the Maclean LLC, the list that would put behind bars many of the powerful people of Midmond city. She was wearing it on her finger, Detective Ross copied the password to be used when the time would come, however her request was to keep the ring, it was the only thing she could take with her.
Every time she was closing her eyes, she could see it happening again, them discussing about the things they would do that weekend they would stay to the mountains. They were together, officially, unofficially... it didn't matter, they were taking it slow, dating, going for excursions, watching movies, kissing and making out for hours, she couldn't get enough of him and he couldn't get enough of her, they found each other and nobody and nothing could separate them again.
The noise of the bullets hitting nonstop the car, blood... his pale face, he died in her hands soon after he managed to tell her that he loved her. She didn't want to keep that memory of him in her mind. She was bleeding too but she didn't feel the pain, she was looking at him, outside the car there was nobody around, the only thing she saw was a motorcycle speeding away from them, it was a miracle that she survived the attack.
She was under drugs the whole time, when she was not sleeping she was looking at the ceiling not talking, not having any reaction, her family, Derek and Bailey were next to her at all the time, but she was denying life, anyway life didn't have a meaning without him.
Two weeks later she was standing on the cliff of a mountain, her car in neutral gear heading down the cliff, a huge explosion and then silence.
‘'You did the right thing, we will transfer you to a safe location and we will ensure that nobody will try to harm you'’ Detective Ross said but she didn't reply to him, she was just looking outside the jeep's black windows, thinking about her Mother, her Nana, Bailey, how her life came upside down, when all looked like that were going to be normal, after so many years waiting for Matthew and her to be together, he was murdered, he died in her hands and now she was on the run for her life, pretending to be dead and moving to another country with a different identity to save her life.
She wanted to open the door of that house and leave, go back to her family, this would mean the end of her life? It didn't matter, Matthew... she whispered and crawled on the floor chocking her sobs.
