Twelve Joshua watched as April left the room. He was dazed both at how she had reacted to his compliment and how he had reacted to her touch. This hadn’t happened to him in a very long time. Not since … no, he wasn’t going to think about that. It was a long time ago and over and done with. He glanced at April’s plate, then at his own. He could understand her loss of appetite. His had flown away as well. He stood and carried both plates to the kitchen where Aunt Sally watched him scrape the remains of their dinner into the trash.
