Twenty-Seven April went to the kitchen, checked the time and fixed a cup of tea. She sat at the counter alone and waited. On her way, she had checked the front door to make sure it was locked. No way was she going to sit up alone with the doors unlocked. Twenty minutes, and two cups of tea later, she heard a key in the back door and Joshua walked in, looking tired. “Hi” April said softly. Joshua looked up and smiled. “Hi yourself. You didn’t have to wait up for me.” April went to meet him half way and slipped her arms around his waist. “I know, but I wanted to. My friend is here. She got here about half an hour or so ago. I took her to my room and she is either asleep up there or waiting on me to come and gab.” She grinned up at him.
