The accident beyond the eye
"There you go ma'am, have a safe trip." Katy said as the blond woman drove by after she served her gas. Katy was almost done with her shift at the gas station where she worked. She checked her vintage purple wrist watch and took a long sigh wondering when Alex would ever show up to release her from her shift as his shift began. She looked at the dark road heading to town hoping Alex would just show up like he does every night., "Any time now.." she said. Instead, a baby pink 1971 Plymouth cuda convertible drove in with four 20-year olds . They were noisy and drunk. "Hey... can we get some gas" said the dark haired driver in a black leather jacket shouted as he hit the car's horn. Katy rolled her eyes and took a deep breath before turning around, deploying her fake smile and walked towards them. Katy walked to the side of the car where she stood no longer able to pretend to care. Two guys at the driver's and the co driver's seat. The other guy was in a sky blue hoodie and brown hair. At the back were the two drunk barbie girls still holding bottles of vodka. "A bunch of rich assholes " she said to herself. she wasn't ready for another night to deal with disrespectful rich kids Well she had her own challenges to do with. Katie served them gas ready for them to leave. "Aww... she cute you guys." said one of the ladies at the back. "Yeah.. you should join us. We are heading to a party." said the other dark haired girl. Katy was about to respond when the guy at the co driver's seat said," Leave her alone Emmy no one wants to see you on a pole drunk." Emmy laughed as she took another gulp of vodka. You'd think kids who were raised by lawyers would understand the essence of the law and respect it but who am I kidding. I guess not everyone is the same. They drove away and met Alex skating in to work. Katy wasn't as happy. "Where have you been? You are ten minutes late for your shift. " she said as she took her bag to leave." Relax . Am here now. " said Alex . He was a Blondie with a well built up body and such soulful eyes. Katy looked at his face with that smirk on his face. He was handsome alright. Between the unbelievable jaw line the guy had and his masculine body, staying mad seemed pointless. He walked past him slightly brushing against Alex's shoulder. She walked towards the exit route as Alex watched her." Come on... really Katy? "Alex asked as she walked away. It was already midnight and getting a cab at that time of the night was difficult in a small town like this. She hoped she would have her usual ten minute walk to the bus station. This reminded her of her mom who constantly never stopped telling her to stay away from dark lonely streets in the risk of finding out what exactly lurks in the shadows. She smiled as she remembered her mother narrating ghost stories to her and her younger brother. It was sad that now Katy had to witness her mom battle dementia. Focusing more on the twinkling stars at night she failed to see the broken piece of glass In front of her that she stepped on unaware. She felt a sharp yet distant pain on her left foot . She looked around to notice the spill on the ground and broken glass leading to tyre tracks that diverted from the road towards the slope. That's when she noticed the uprising smoke. So much was going through her mind. She slowly walked towards the cliff hoping what her brain was telling her was a mere lie. There it was, a car wreck. She turned on her flashlight and began walking towards the car. "Hallo, can anyone hear me? Is anyone hurt?" Katy asked. The car seemed familiar. She was sure she'd seen it before. As she walked towards the car wreck she came across a black left foot heel. There was not any sign of anyone's presence . She called for emergency services as she walked back to the road. She was in panic then she remembered where she had seen the car before. It was the same car with the four young frat guys heading for a party. She couldn't believe it. She could have been in that car. Worse yet where were they? The four college kids going for that party. The math couldn't add up.A car wreck like that could not leave high chances of survival. All she saw was blood, broken pieces of glass and a leaking fuel tank. All she could hope was that they were fine at least breathing. She was struggling to maintain rhythmical breathing a technic she learned as she studied medicine. It was past midnight and she knew the longer she stayed out late the more exhausted she'd feel the next day. The last bus to town was heading her direction. She had to take the bus hoping emergency services would get there soon. She flagged down the bus waited for it to stop. She looked at the scene one more time as the bus stopped before her. The bus driver opened the doors as she walked in and sat at the back. The only thing that was in her mind was the scene. The car was in such a wreck she didn't think anyone survived but all she could do was be hopefully. There wasn't anyone maybe they all survived and made a run for it to avoid attention from cops. She was not paying when the bus went to a sudden halt. Her stop was at the town. She walked out and headed to her apartment. It was a small flat with beige walls and books all over the coffee table. Her dishes were still at the kitchen sink. She sighed at the sight of her unkempt flat. Katy dropped her bag on the floor and fell on her bed. Hoping she would wake in a couple of minutes to clean up then have the remaining sandwich in her fridge before officially going to bed. Sunlight penetrated through her blinds hitting her face. Her alarm went off. Katy woke up and hit snooze on the alarm clock. She slowly got up and turned on the radio. Katy lazily got up and walked towards the shower. It was on a Saturday and she had her day off from everything ; her shitty job at the gas station, her college and everything. She took a long shower and finally got off in her rob as her long black curly hair flowed through her shoulders dripping water on her white rob. She walked to her kitchen and did the dishes as she danced to the song on the radio. She finally cleared the coffee table and arranged her living space. She dressed in her white cotton dress just above her knees It was a comfortable free dress that made her look stylish. She made some pancakes and coffee for her Saturday morning. When she had her breakfast she took her white sneakers and hoodie grabbed her skateboard and walked out. She skateboarded to fetch her week's pay at the gas station then maybe go back home to catch up on her reading. As she skated towards the gas station, she noticed the sheriff's car next to yellow crime scene tape. She then remembered the accident. She skated towards the cop writing something down on a notebook. "Officer Dangus how are you?" Katy asked the officer. "Good morning Katy" replied the officer.
