“Hey! Wait, I didn’t mean to. Please give me a chance to fix this, please.”
“It’s too late. Your punishment will come in the form of a curse”
“What? Wahaaaaa…….”
Nearly 107 years later in the town of Twin Falls we see crowds of people gathering and taking pictures. The place they were gathering was around a famous statue. It is said that the statue is actually a living person who was cursed and the only way to break this curse was if his fated soul mate touches his hand. Some still believe it and come to try it but many just find it a great spot to take pictures. This is one of the most popular spots for tourists in Twin Falls. Many who have been here a while believe he has died. No one can stay frozen that long without food/water, but what they don’t know is he is still alive and can think/hear. This is where our story begins.
Yukita sighed, “Damn it, Hey boss, come check this out.” She shouted, then waited for her boss to come over.
“What are you going on about now?” He asked, leaning over her shoulder, looking at her screen.
“Look,” She pointed at a spot with a picture. “Isn’t that the guy we interviewed last week? It says he is on trial for theft.”
“Damn, he was actually a good candidate too.”
“Well not now.” Yukita chuckled. Her boss just shook his head and walked off. Yukita went back to the report she was writing. A few hours later it was lunch time. She stood up stretching and went to the breakroom to grab her lunch. She walked outside to a bench enjoying the warmth the sun was providing. Watching other people go about their day while she ate her sandwich and chips. Yukita smiled happy with how things were going, she had just found a new job, finally one she liked and with a decent boss and after work she was going to the pound to adopt her new pal. She pulled out her phone looking at a picture of Jazz, her pal she was picking up after work. “Well guess I better get back to it” she said to herself. Yuki walked back in and was walking back to her desk when her coworker called out to her.
Yukita turned around to look at Jake. He was tall around 6’5”, muscular but not bulky, dark brown shoulder length hair with a slight curl, and tan skin. His eyes were a deep emerald green with a sharp jawline. Today he was wearing a pair of black slacks a white button up shirt and a trench coat the same color as his eyes.
“Hey Yuki?” Jake said.
“Hey Jake. How is it going?” She replied.
“It’s going well. You just recently moved out here didn’t you?” Jake asked.
“Yes, just about three weeks ago. I had been thinking about moving for a while when I found a good place off Rivers Road and decided to check it out. It was a good spot and this is a nice town so I made an offer. I’m still not really sure how I got it but I’m glad I did,” Yukita paused, “Sorry I didn’t mean to ramble on like that.” She said softly.
Jake chuckled, “No worries, I was just wondering if you had heard where some of our more famous tourist spots are and how they came to be.”
“So there are stories to go with them?”
“Hmm ,” Jake thought for a moment, “Some are more rumors than actual stories.”
“Interesting. I’ll have to look them up.” Yukita said.
Jake smiled, “You could.. Or I could tell you some, maybe over coffee?”
Yukita smiled softly back. Her and Jake were hired on at the same time. He had lived in Twin Falls all his life where she had just moved. He was very outgoing and friendly. “Make it tea and I’m in.” she said with a laugh as she walked away.
“You're on.” He hollered walking back to his own desk. The rest of her day seemed to fly by. Yuki felt like she did well with all the calls today. Only a few of the calls were emergencies that she had to send officers and one ambulance out to. After her shift was over she stood up, and stretched. Gathering up her things she said goodbye to her coworkers and walked out to her truck excited because after class she was picking up her new dog. During the drive one of her favorite songs came on. She couldn’t help but turn it up and start singing. “So far away, so far away, been far away, for far too long…” After parking she rolled up her windows, grabbed her purse along with the leash and collar she brought then walked in.
Yukita had been there a few times over the past week walking and playing with several different dogs but had bonded the most with Jasper. He was a black lab, incredibly smart, extremely playful and according to the papers already house trained. Yukita smiled as she walked over to his kennel with a leash and collar she bought yesterday. She got him out, and after petting and reminding him to stay down she went to the counter to fill out the paperwork and pay. Once that was done she took him to her truck, loaded him up and drove home. When they got home she let him out to explore. The previous owner of the house must have also had dogs as there was already a fence around the yard.
After letting him wander and explore for a while she called his name a few times to see if he would come when called. After the second time calling she saw his furry form coming back to her. She smiled again and led him inside, getting out his food and water dishes and filling them. After this she went to make herself some dinner, tonight's dish being chicken alfredo and broccoli. Yukita started her pandora singing and dancing around the kitchen while she cooked. A little while later after eating and cleaning up she was laying on her stomach on the floor with her class books and notepads spread out in front of her. She continued to listen to music as she started studying.
“Jazz you know what, there is this girl in my criminal justice class that is really obnoxious. Actually she is a b***h, really not that smart either. I don't know how she got into the program to begin with. She didn't even know what juvenile justice is. Then she forgot her notes and tried to copy mine. When I told her no she got all pissy and said and I quote ‘Do you want me to fail?’ like b***h it is not my job to help you perhaps if you were nice and not mean to some other students and me I might be willing to help. Gosh I really don’t like her at all.”
Jazz, “Woof, woof woof.”
“You're right, I shouldn't waste my time on her. I should focus so I can pass this quiz we have coming up.”
She continued to study for a while occasionally petting her dog until another of her favorite songs that she had a dance to came on. Jumping up she did her made up dance. Yuki was having so much fun dancing she decided a mini dance party was in order. After dancing for a while she glanced at the time and realized how late it was she picked up her books and notebooks placing them back in her bag. She settled her new friend before heading off to sleep herself. Most of her night consisted of tossing and turning with scattered sleep here and there.
When her alarm went off the next morning she mumbled a curse rolling over to turn it off. Getting up with a yawn and big stretch she walked to the back door to let Jasper out to do his business. This was followed by walking into the kitchen for breakfast for both of them. Finishing her oatmeal she called Jazz back in then went to continue her morning routine. Doing some stretches then a quick workout before a shower. After that it was back to the kitchen to make lunch then making sure her new friend was okay, followed by locking up the house and hopping in and starting her truck.
When she got to work she managed to find a close parking spot for once. She looked at her watch to see if she got there too early or if she could head in and start her work day. Deciding that it was okay to head in she got out of her truck. As she was walking in she noticed that her five foot seven frame cast a nice shadow on the ground. She went straight to her desk and put her things away, and just as she went to get tea from the break room Jake called out to her.
“Good morning, how was your night?” Jake asked.
“It was good. I went to the pound and finally got to bring home Jasper. He is house trained like the papers said.” Yukita replied.
“That is a good thing. Any new pictures?” Jake asked.
“No, not yet. Maybe tomorrow.”
“Alright, I’m counting on it.” Jake said before walking over to his desk to start his day.
Yukita giggled before continuing on her task to get some tea. Her morning was pretty uneventful for once, no emergency phone calls, just typing up reports and keeping a watch on things. Since it was so nice out she decided to eat lunch outside today also. Like yesterday she just people watched and enjoyed the warmth from the sun. The rest of her shift went smooth like the morning had been. The drive back home and the rest of her evening also went well. This smooth pattern was the routine of the next few weeks until one day just after getting back from lunch her coworker Jake called out to her.
“Hey Yukita, Are you busy after work today?” Jake asked.
“Not really, I was just going to go home and play/train Jasper then either draw or study. Why?”
“Me and a few others were going to get some drinks later. I was wondering if you wanted to join?”
“Hmm, I’ll have to go home and check on Jazz so I can't stay long but a drink sounds nice.”
“Okay, I'll let the others know.” Jake replied before walking off. Pausing he remembered his other question he wanted to ask.
“Wait, I was wondering, did you still want that tour?” He asked.
“Oh yes. I’m sorry it's been a busy few weeks. With classes Monday, Wednesday, and Friday evenings plus settling down and unpacking I spaced. I'm sorry.” She replied.
“That I understand. Well when are you free next? Maybe we could do it then?”
“I am free this Sunday if you are?” she asked.
“Actually I do have Sunday off this week also. What if we meet at the coffee nook at say nine?”
“That sounds great.” Yukita replied.
Yukita just nodded before also walking off to her desk and getting back to work. A few hours later she was done with her work and so were the others that were meeting up. After they had gathered all their things there was a small pause at the door to discuss where they were going to go. After agreeing and confirming they all knew how to get there the group split up to walk to their respective vehicles.
