"The first bet"
Chapter 1: The Bet That Burned Farr’s POV The first thing I noticed was the way the lights shimmered on the champagne glasses, how laughter spilled into the air like smoke. Everyone was dancing or drinking or both cousins I barely remembered, strangers dressed too perfectly, and a band playing an overplayed romantic song. I didn’t belong here. But my cousin insisted. “You’re too beautiful to hide away,” she had said. “Come. Just one drink.” I didn’t expect to feel sexy tonight. But this white silk dress hugged my body just right, and the way the heels lifted my hips made me feel bolder than I truly was. I kept to the edge of the crowd, sipping my drink, fingers trembling slightly. Then I walked into the bar… and everything changed. Nyl’s POV "Twenty bucks says you won’t do it," Red smirked, swirling the whiskey in his glass. I chuckled, eyes already scanning the entrance. “You forget who you’re talking to.” “First woman who walks in that door. No take-backs. You have to make her want you.” I raised my glass in salute. “Done.” And then she appeared. White silk. Green eyes that sparkled even in the dim lighting. She looked lost. Nervous. f*****g irresistible. My blood stirred. This wasn't going to be a bet. This was going to be the kind of night people write songs about. Farr’s POV He was watching me. Tall, sharp jawline, smirk like sin. His eyes dragged down my body, slow and deliberate, like he already owned me. I shivered. My drink tilted in my hand. “Want another?” His voice came out like warm velvet as he approached, towering over me. I nodded before my brain caught up. “Sure.” “Name’s Nyl,” he said, lips dangerously close to my ear. “Farr.” He grinned. “You don’t belong in this room, Farr.” Neither did he. But we were here. And suddenly, all I wanted was to know how his hands felt on my skin. Nyl’s POV We didn’t talk much. Didn’t need to. Our bodies had a language of their own. I guided her to the quieter hallway near the back, hand low on her back. She followed. Breathless. Blushing. Curious. The moment the door closed behind us in the private VIP lounge, I pinned her against the wall, one hand on her waist, the other caressing her cheek. “You can tell me to stop,” I whispered. She didn’t. I pressed my lips to her neck, and she gaspedso sweet, so real. My tongue traced the line down to her collarbone. Her hands tangled in my shirt. “First time?” I asked, sensing it in the way she trembled. She hesitated, cheeks red. “Yes.” Fuck. That made it even hotter. And more dangerous. “I’ll be careful,” I said, my voice tight. And I was at first. But passion broke rules. Farr’s POV He kissed me like I was something rare. Like he needed me. His mouth moved down, hot and wet on my chest. He tugged the strap of my dress off my shoulder, then the next. The silk fell to the floor like a whisper. I was standing in just my lace underwear. He groaned, hands roaming, lips never leaving my skin. “You’re perfect.” He dropped to his knees, kissing my stomach, my thighs my breath hitched. My mind fogged. Everything was heat. When he stood and pulled off his shirt, I saw ink scrawled across his chest and arms, muscle rippling underneath. God, he was beautiful. He pressed against me, the hardness of him impossible to ignore. “Are you sure?” “Yes,” I whispered. “I want you.” Then there were no more words only heat, friction, wetness, moans. He guided me gently at first, but I urged him on, needing more, needing all of him. He pushed into me with a groan, slow and deep. I gasped at the sting, the fullness. My nails dug into his back. “You okay?” he panted. I nodded, overwhelmed. Tears pricked my eyes from the intensity. He moved slowly, allowing me to adjust. Each thrust sent waves through my body. I clung to him, moaning his name. Then he picked up the pace, hips snapping into mine, rhythm building. Our bodies collided, skin against skin. The sound of our pleasure echoed in the room. I shattered first, crying out as my climax hit like lightning. He followed, hips stuttering, cursing softly as he came. He collapsed beside me on the velvet couch, pulling me into his arms. But in the morning, I wasn’t there. Nyl’s POV I woke to an empty couch, the scent of her still lingering. Her dress strap lay on the floor, torn. She was gone. And for the first time in my life, I wasn’t satisfied. I needed to find her again. Farr’s POV – Two Weeks Later The last thing I expected was to land the interview. “Davis Holdings,” the receptionist smiled. “Eleventh floor.” My heart nearly stopped. The name sounded familiar dangerous. It buzzed in the back of my head like a warning. But I shook it off. This was just a stepping stone job. Executive assistant to a department VP. Nothing fancy. I just needed the paycheck. I stepped into the elevator, clutching my resume, trying to breathe. I didn’t belong in skyscrapers. I belonged in bookstores. Cafés. Corners. But when the elevator doors opened, and the polished marble floors gleamed beneath my feet, I told myself to stop being afraid. I could do this. I didn’t know this company belonged to him. Nyl’s POV – The Elevator Camera Feed I wasn’t expecting to see her. I was reviewing the day’s security footage habit, mostly. Just another day. Until the screen froze on a girl with a white blouse, black skirt, and anxious eyes. Her eyes. “Pause.” My voice made my assistant jump. I zoomed in. Farr. What the actual hell was she doing in my building? “She’s here for an interview,” Brent said, checking the system. A slow grin tugged at my mouth. She didn’t know. That I owned the building. The company. The entire damn block. She walked right back into my world. Fate was handing her back to me and I wasn’t about to let go this time. “Hire her. On the spot,” I said. Brent blinked. “Under what department?” I smirked. “Mine.” Farr’s POV – Later That Day “I’m sorry… what?” I blinked. The woman in the suit beamed. “Mr. Davis personally reviewed your file. You’ve been assigned directly as his executive assistant. Full package. Corner office.” I swallowed hard. “I thought the job was under marketing” “There’s been a reassignment.” Something in her smile felt… secretive. Mr. Davis. I hadn’t met him. But everyone whispered his name like he was a legend. “They say he’s silent. Cold. Mysterious. Never smiles,” one girl had gossiped in the break room. “And hot,” another added. “So hot it’s illegal.” I tried not to panic. I needed this job. I couldn’t let one night from my past haunt me. That night was over. Farr’s POV: The office was too quiet. The blinds were half-closed, casting soft shadows across the polished floors. I stood awkwardly at the edge of the room, clutching my tablet, heart pounding louder than it should. Then the door closed behind me. Click. I turned. And there he was. Nyl Davis. The man from that night. My breath hitched. My body remembered him before my brain could catch up. Heat rushed up my neck. I tried to speak, but the words stuck. His eyes darkened as he walked toward me slow, deliberate, predatory. "You’re quiet," he said, voice low, smoky. "I.. I didn’t know you owned this place," I whispered. He didn't respond. Just reached out, brushed his fingers down my arm. Goosebumps erupted in his wake. "You disappeared on me, Farr." I swallowed. "It was a mistake." His gaze locked onto mine. "Did it feel like a mistake?" He was too close now, his scent curling into my lungs. Cedarwood. Musk. Him. "I" I tried to step back. But he caught my wrist. “I haven’t stopped thinking about you,” he murmured, and then his hand slid lower, grazing the hem of my pencil skirt. “Nyl…” I gasped, not sure whether it was a warning or a plea. His hand was under the skirt now, firm fingers finding the lace edge of my underwear. “You wore these last time too,” he said darkly. I whimpered as his fingers traced over the damp fabric. My body betrayed me. He eased a finger inside the lace. Then another. Stroking gently at first, slow and teasing, then deeper, curling just right. My knees buckled, and he caught me with his free hand, pressing me against the office wall. "You’re soaked," he whispered into my ear. “Still innocent… but not untouched anymore.” My moan was muffled as I bit my lip, trying not to fall apart. He kept moving, coaxing every reaction out of me. My legs trembled. I clutched his shirt. "Nyl I'm going to" "Do it," he growled. I shattered in his hand, gasping, body pressed against glass and stone, while the man I tried to forget proved I never could. And when I opened my eyes, he was staring at me like I belonged to him.
