Chapter 2: Uncharted Waters The next morning, Isabella Carter stepped onto the wooden deck outside her beachfront villa, inhaling the crisp ocean air. The rhythmic crash of waves against the shore was soothing, yet her mind refused to settle. This was supposed to be a simple holiday—sun, sand, and some much-needed relaxation with Ava. But ever since she met Danny Rivera, the infuriatingly charming resort owner, her thoughts had been anything but simple. “Mommy, hurry up!” Ava’s excited voice pulled her back to reality. Izzy turned to see her daughter bouncing on her heels, already dressed in her pink swimsuit and matching sun hat. Her tiny fingers clutched a seashell she must have found earlier. “We’re going to be late for the boat ride!” Ava whined dramatically. Izzy chuckled. “Sweetheart, it’s not like the boat is going anywhere without us.” “Yes, it is! Danny said we have to be on time!” Ava huffed, crossing her arms like a tiny version of Izzy herself. At the mention of Danny’s name, Izzy’s stomach did a strange little flip. She told herself it was just anticipation for the day ahead—not anything ridiculous like attraction. She wasn’t here for that. Was she? A Morning on the Water Half an hour later, Izzy and Ava arrived at the resort’s private dock, where a sleek white boat bobbed gently on the waves. Danny stood at the helm, dressed in a loose linen shirt and board shorts, looking every bit the island heartthrob. His tanned skin glowed under the morning sun, and the effortless way he handled the ropes and equipment made it clear—this was his world. “Right on time,” he called out, flashing them a grin. “I was starting to think you got lost.” Izzy raised a brow. “Do I look like someone who gets lost?” Danny smirked. “Not at all. You look like someone who refuses to ask for directions.” Ava giggled, climbing onto the boat with Danny’s help. “Mommy always says she knows where she’s going, even when she doesn’t!” Izzy shot her daughter a playful glare. “I do know where I’m going. Usually.” Danny laughed, and the deep, rich sound of it sent an unexpected warmth through Izzy’s chest. As the boat set off into the open sea, Izzy found herself letting go, just a little. The salty breeze tangled her hair, the sun kissed her skin, and for the first time in a long time, she felt something close to… free. A Moment Between Them The tour took them around hidden coves and untouched beaches, each more stunning than the last. Ava was enthralled, leaning over the edge of the boat to watch the colorful fish dart beneath the surface. At one point, Danny nudged Izzy gently. “You’re allowed to have fun too, you know.” She glanced at him, arching a brow. “I am having fun.” “Uh-huh.” He folded his arms, studying her. “You’re watching, not living.” Izzy bristled, but before she could respond, Ava turned to them with wide, excited eyes. “Can we swim, Mommy? Please?” Danny grinned. “I know the perfect spot.” Within minutes, they anchored in a secluded cove where the water was a mesmerizing shade of turquoise. Ava didn’t wait she jumped right in with a delighted squeal. Danny turned to Izzy, holding out a hand. “Come on. No excuses She hesitated. “I” Before she could argue, Danny took a step closer. “I promise, the water’s nice.” His voice was softer now, coaxing, like he could see right through her walls. For a moment, Izzy forgot how to breathe. Then, with a deep, she took his hands letting herself plunge into the unknown.
