Chapter One
It all started just before the summer of 2019, a family decided to go on vacation to Hawaii for the summer holiday and began to make plans for it. Nathan, their sixteen year old son, told his friends to convince their parents to go on vacation to Hawaii so that they could all spend the summer together and they all agreed it was a marvelous idea and got right down into it.
Joshua, Nathan's friend not only convinced his parents to go on the vacation, he also managed to convince his girlfriend Abigail to come along with them. Although Nathan, Joshua and Jayden were sure of their summer plans and began preparing for it, Charlie's aunt could not afford the luxurious trip to Hawaii so if he was to go, he would need to start working to save up for the expenses of traveling and then squat with one of his friends.
Charlie couldn't stay with Joshua's family because they were already accommodating Abigail and Nathan had three younger siblings so it was already a full house; Jayden was his last hope. Luckily for him, Jayden's parents did not mind him staying with them even if his traveling fees were not catered for. Charlie had to work three weeks before summer at five different jobs just to afford travel fees to and fro.
Three days after the summer holiday began, everyone departed for Hawaii's Crystal resort; their home for the next few weeks. Unfortunately for them, all family suites had been booked before their arrival so they had to book individual rooms for themselves. Nate's family booked four rooms: one for the parents, one for Nathan, one for his younger sister Laura and one for the twins, Mason and Jason. The other families just booked two rooms each, meaning that Joshua and Abigail shared a room and Jayden and Charlie shared one too.
"Charlie dear, are you sure you're okay sharing a room with Jayden? He could be a little messy…"
" Mom!"
"... we could get you your own room, it wouldn't be too much of a hassle"
" It's okay Mrs Locks, thank you very much for offering"
" It's alright dear"
They were all ready for the weeks of fun that awaited them, the boys were looking forward to an adventure while the parents looked forward to some much needed relaxation. They were ready to learn about the Hawaiian culture, taste new food and visit new places during their stay in Hawaii. Nobody was ready for the dramatic turn of events that took place. Just about a week and a few days into the holiday, when they thought nothing could go wrong, Abigail revealed that she was pregnant and that was when hell was let loose.
During their stay so far, Abigail and Joshua drifted apart, their relationship became strained but somehow that didn't keep their hands off each other at night, maybe them sharing a room was not such a bright idea after all. In addition to that, Abigail had been seen galavanting with one of the lifeguards, chatting even flirting with him, she even went as far as volunteering to be a junior lifeguard at the pool and it was more than clear to anyone with eyes that something fishy was going on.
"You spend all that time with that Chris guy from the pool, doing God knows what and now you're trying to pin that thing in your belly on me? You better come clean and stay the truth, i am not that thing's father…"
" Stop calling the baby, our baby a thing Joshua. I get that you're in shock but you're going to be a father soon so you better start acting like one!"
" That thing is not mine, you better go and give that Chris guy the news that he's going to be a father"
" What the hell do you mean?!"
At this point, virtually everyone on that floor could make out what they were arguing about so it wasn't long before the news got to Joshua's parents and caused his father's second heart attack; turns out hearing your only son, just seventeen, impregnated his girlfriend was neither a funny nor heartwarming news.
" Joshua Carl Martin, how dare you bring shame to our family? Look at me when I'm talking to you, I'm not going to take this unruly behavior from you anymore. Look, just look what you've done to your poor father, he doesn't deserve any of this… " she starts sobbing.
" Mum, I'm so sorry, I never meant… "
"Hell no, don't you dare tell me sorry, sorry my foot, just get out of my sight right this instant, i can't bare to look at you knowing how much pain you've brought to me, get out! Out! Just go!"
The nurses came in and practically pushed him out of the room because he was upsetting their patient.
Joshua's mum didn't take the news lightly, she fainted and scolded him from her hospital bed. She looked so weak and helpless to him, she didn't even seem angry at the turn of events, she looked ashamed. Her calmness, not shouting the roof off, the disappointment in her eyes and that last look she gave him, the look that said he had failed her and she had given up on him, those were what hurt him the most. Getting Abigail pregnant was one thing, failing his parents was another.
