Chapter Two
"Abigail my dear, in as much as i am highly disappointed in you and Joshua, i don't have much of a choice, welcome to the family dear, you were always one of us"
They all had this big discussion during one of their visits to Joshua's father's room, that way it seemed like he was part of the conversation. Joshua's mother accepted the news pretty quickly after the initial shock and treated Abigail like her very own daughter; afterall she didn't put the baby in herself.
They began having lunch together like a family in the father's hospital room, everything was great until one morning Abigail was found dead with white foam in her mouth.
The resort security as well as the police were headed to the scene of the crime and from the look of things Joshua was kind of in trouble, especially after it was found out that she had died taking abortion pills when she was carrying his baby; but that wasn't what actually made them suspect Joshua, it was the wrist marks on her hands that showed struggling before death with scratch marks evident on Joshua's forearm leading them to believe that the couple were in a physically heated argument before the pills came into question.
The police immediately took Joshua in for questioning, they needed to know if their fight had given her motive to kill the baby and where she got the drugs she took because it didn't look like a hospital given or drugstore drug.
Joshua's mother fainted on the spot and was again rushed to the hospital, she was becoming well acquainted with the hospital staff. Charlie and Jayden quickly got a cab to follow them and give their friend moral support while Nathan was tasked to take care of things at the hotel and check on Joshua's parents.
The police station was actually really close to the hotel, just outside the resort and they got there pretty quickly. As Joshua was taken inside, he didn't struggle or say a word, he just had this extremely shocked and pained expression on his face. He was really going through a lot of emotional stress at the turn of events in the last few days; first Abigail was pregnant and now she was no longer alive. Even though, the relationship wasn't as stable as it was before, it didn't mean he had fallen out of love with her, he still loved her and was beginning to love the baby they were supposed to have.
"Mr Martin is there anything you are not telling us? It would be in your best interest to tell us absolutely everything you can"
"I didn't do anything, i don't know anything just let me go back to the hotel and mourn my kids"
"But… "
" I didn't do anything wrong and you can't keep me here!"
The police had to let him go with a promise to keep in touch because they had no evidence to arrest him or keep him here against his will, he was still innocent to the law until proven guilty. The three boys took a cab straight to the hospital where they met Nathan taking soup to Joshua's mother. They first took permission from the nurses and asked about her condition before entering her room.
They met her sitting on the chair opposite the television watching a telenovela that was on. After a little chat, the boys left room leaving Joshua with his mother. While she sat on the only available chair in the small room, he awkwardly sat on the bed wondering what his mother would have to say about everything.
"Joshua, i am your mother and i will protect you at all costs but for me to be able to help you when the need arises, because it definitely will, you need to explain everything to me, from the start"
Joshua began to explain everything to his mother leaving no stone unturned, he confided in his mother about his doubt on the paternity of the child and Abigail's attitude towards him before her death, he told her that they only fought because he was trying to stop her from aborting their baby.
"Although i originally didn't want the baby, it was still a life and it didn't seem right to bring an end to that life but she just didn't want to have the baby anymore and that surprised me because she seemed to have wanted the baby a few days before. Mum i still loved her, i loved her till the very end, i respected her decision and eventually left her alone, if only she had listened to me… " a lone tear fell from his eye and he stylishly wiped it off hoping his mother didn't notice it, she was already in enough pain as it was.
His mother joined him on the bed and hugged him for a while, there was nothing more comforting to him than his mother's hug. He only left when the nurse came in to give her some medications so that she could rest.
He may not have always agree with her on certain issues and he was pretty sure she cheated on him and the child wasn't his but he still loved her enough to stick with her and agree to raise another man's child with her.
Things were just going wrong all at once and the only thing that would give him closure was to find out the truth, if truly she cheated on him and the baby wasn't his or if he was just being paranoid. He discussed this with his friends and they made plans to find out what they could.
Luckily for them, Joshua had hidden Abigail's phone from the police so it wasn't in their custody. He was aware that she kept a digital diary on her phone, she said it was safer that way and she could trust no one would be able to snoop and find out her secrets. Fortunately for him, he already knew the phone's passcode, benefits of being a trustworthy boyfriend, they just needed to find out the password for the dairy app.
