Sunshine and Sparkles

His cobalt eyes block my view as he approaches. The soft caress down our bond makes me flinch and the heat from his hands tickles my arms before I jump back. My heart lurches into my throat at the destruction and my body trembles. My mate tries to approach me again but I shake my stupor and growl my walls soaring up and snapping the bond between us. "Don't touch me!" He stops and his hands fall to his sides devastation written all over his face. Tension in his shoulders that just moments ago was relaxed. We had made a connection and it had made me weak and distracted me. Lead me in the wrong direction. He is meant to be a gift to my other half yet how can he steer me so wrong? Is it my trust issues getting in the way or my subconscious warning me to stay away? Nothing good could come of this. I feel my body go fuzzy the thread to my powers glittering almost begging to be touched. I take another step back looking around to see my mate's close pack members plus a few wolves. Katherine and Maverick come into the scorched clearing I've created. Katherine's hands go over her mouth as she takes in the destruction but Mavericks lock on me. I see him moving before I call out but I still try to reach my arm feeling like lead as my vision dots with black. "Mav- - I squeeze my eyes shut at the bright light cast on my face. Groaning I lift my heavy arm and lay it over my eyes trying to hold on to my peaceful silent sleep. My bed is fluffier than ever before and the air fresher. I blink away sleep and sit up squinting against the light. White. Fluffy white clouds cascade for eternity in the bright golden sky. Like dawn lives forever here. I look around as I get to my feet thinking that I would be off balance seeing as I'm sitting atop a cloud which should be impossible. Yet here I am feeling like a damn fool dressed in white gauzy material that is intricately draped over my body leaving my stomach exposed and very shear on my legs but covering my breasts and ass. "Sweet Pea?" I still do not dare turn my skin prickling and heart hammering. I haven't heard her voice in ages yet it still sounds the same. Just as sweet and concerned as always. My mind is playing tricks on me and I don't even want to see her in my dreams. I don't deserve anything so sweet. "It worked you're here." My mother says more to herself but I can feel her presence as she moves closer. No hesitation in her steps but determination it would seem. Turning to face her I don't even catch a glimpse before I am pulled into an embrace. It's different from the last one I got from her. I was younger, purer, full of innocence. Now my hands are soaked in the blood of innocent monsters. Is there truly a difference between the two? No one deserves the death I give them besides myself. She pulls back holding me at arm's length and looking me over. Finally, I get a chance to truly look at her and she hasn't changed a bit. Besides the extremely pale lilac gauzy outfit, she is dressed in. I can't help but notice hers is more modest than mine the color suiting her. "My how you have grown into a beautiful young woman." Her eyes glisten and a lone tear trickles down her cheek. I feel the backs of my own eyes burning but allow no tears to fall. Even my mother's beauty and the reunion cannot take my mind off of what is nagging at the back of it. "What am I doing here Mom? Where is here?" I ask looking around and seeing nothing but rolling fluffy white clouds as far as the eye can see. She sucks in a tight breath flicking away her tear and straightening up. "The here is not important but it's time I guide you in the right direction down the path that is laid out for you. That being said you must return to Moon Stone Pack. In my closet beneath the floor boards, I hid a box that is protected with a cloaking spell. Only you will be able to see it so it should be untouched there. Then you must find him." I look at her confused and unsure. Everything seems so cryptic how did she know to hide a box for me that I would need now? Also who the hell is she talking about? "Who?" She gives me a sad smile. "Maximilian." I suck in a breath but feel lava flood my veins at her words. Is this a joke to her? Way to throw my mistake back in my face. It's bad enough I have to look at her and not be consumed by guilt but to throw my dead twin in my face is low. "What of him?" I bite out stepping away from her and clenching my fists. I feel something shift inside me a scary calm washing over me. However, my mother doesn't back down. No, instead she steps up reaching out as her hand connects with my cheek. I lean into her comforting touch even though I know I don't deserve it. "Sweet child, do not be blinded by that foolish man's trickery. Open your heart and feel for him. He is there waiting for you." Her lips connect with my cheek tenderly and I feel myself nearly crack at such a sweet action after she died at my feet. - I disappeared. Leaving a note for Maverick and Katherine that is detailed enough for them to go about their lives and vague enough so they won't know where I went. I rolled over the thought of leaving Everett my mate a note but I don't owe him anything and I don't trust him. I've been running for days now and have been on four feet more than two. It saves time hunting down food and covering more ground—shorter rest times and avoiding civilizations. I plan to stop at a small village outside of my father's pack borders. A nomad's area is safe for all and most pack members avoid it at all costs. It may be safe from the packs that may hunt you but it is ridden with crime. I toss a sack of gold coins at the elder woman running the Inn and she catches it giving a hefty shake. Pleased she smiles showing her crocked yellow teeth before waving her hand and a door appears. I nod in thanks and step through into a decent enough room the best one at the inn I'm sure. After washing up and changing I make my way to a club down the road. There are no bars in this village but the club will do just fine for a stiff one. Maybe it will help me get some shut-eye before facing my father tomorrow. I sit on a stool and order a drink the bartender quickly sliding my glass to me. The liquor burns on the way down but the bartender pours me more as the glass hits the bar. Women dressed in little cloth with lots of shiny objects dance around earning their keep that they will never get a big enough cut of. I try to ignore that and just enjoy my drink the stink of several different creatures getting to me so I block out the scents before dropping coins on the bar to pay for my drinks plus a generous tip. "Careful, generosity gets you mugged and murdered." I turn to the assailant with the silky vice that is thick with an accent I don't recognize. Perfect skin, blonde hair, and eyes like ice greet me. His face is chiseled by a god that truly loves him and no doubt his body is the same way. I feel an instant tug to him like the mate bond but.. Different. "Curiosity killed the cat, and every other creature that stuck its nose where it didn't belong," I respond before standing and making my way out of the club. I hear him behind me though and look over my shoulder raising an eyebrow at him in curiosity. He only smiles a devilish grin and I know I am done for. - My back meets the backside of my room door and his hands glide up my body. They are cold but set fire to my skin everywhere he touches. I squeeze my legs around his waist tighter pulling him closer to me. Aadya is a confused vicious beast in my mind trying to figure out what is drawing me to him and also what he is. He grips my hair yanking my head to the side and exposing my neck to trailing wet open mouth kisses down it. Aadya growls viciously and pushes me so I shove him off of me landing on my feet. She takes control baring her canines and growling in warning at him. "Find someone else to drain sparkles." She growls at him and he looks taken back before his eyebrows crease and his mouth forms a thin line. "Elemental, that explains it." She growls advancing on him but he puts his hands up trying to come off as less threatening. Why did he follow me here? Why did I let him in? "Explains what?" I growl taking control back but staying on guard. He approaches me hesitantly and I watch his every move. He pushed a stray bunch of hair out of my face and caressed my cheek with his cold knuckles. "Now that I found you I'm afraid you can't get rid of me sunshine."
