I looked behind, and the rogues were still after me. After all, they were savages that wouldn’t let others get the better of them. When our chase marked the fifth minute, I saw a nearby stream and even though I felt that this is a barrier set up by another pack, I was left with no choice but to cross it. I just wished that the pack wouldn’t discover that I entered their territory. I promise to get out of here real soon!
Looking back once again, the rogues were no longer there. Still, I kept running and my legs gave up on their own. Heaving, I plunged to the leafy ground. All of a sudden, I heard the harmonious growl of three wolves.
"Why have you trespassed the Moon Valley Pack’s territory? What pack are you from?" One of them said. I knew that he was either a Beta or a Gamma based on his aura. But wait, did he say Moon Valley pack? As far as I know, that is the most feared werewolf pack ever! They show no mercy to werewolves who crossed them.
"I’m sorry… I didn’t mean to. I was running away from other rogues. And, I’m from… the Lock Heart pack,” I answered.
"Tch! Come with me. We’ll take you to our Beta."
Two of the wolves held me as they escort me to their mansion. I had my head held down the whole time. We then reach the place, and it was way bigger than I thought.
Upon entering, a handsome man with chocolate hair who seemed to be around my age came down the stairs. Strangely, I felt like we looked rather similar. He approached us and other werewolves bowed before his presence. This must be the Beta.
"Hello there! I am Bernard, my Gamma. I can see you’re injured. I will let our doctors know so they could treat you." He then reaches out to me, and he held a shirt. “Cover yourself. It’s pretty cold out here.”
“Oh, alright. Thank you…” I replied and got dressed up in my human form. I then followed Beta Bernard. His tone and kind aura reminded me of Beta Bennett. We took twists and turns around the place, and it eventually led us to another building. I was amazed because it looked like a hospital, and it even smells like one! We went inside a private ward, and I saw two older werewolves there in their white scrubs.
"Mother, Father, this girl needs your help," Beta Bernard says as he walks in.
"But isn’t she a rogue?" the man who looks stunningly like Bernard, said.
"I know, but it’s the Alpha's orders. I’m just following his instructions before he left!”
"Okay, let me help you, young lady,” the woman said to me. I nodded and sat in front of her as Beta Bernard left.
"You poor girl," she commented and looked at my silver collar.
"Don't touch it. It's made of silver," I warned.
She nodded and started to clean the wounds around my body. It honestly stings more than one might think, but I’m just glad that it’s finally being tended to. I’m sure it will heal, although it might take a while, that’s a lot better than being dead.
"If you don't mind me asking, what is your name?" the old man asked suddenly as he grabbed my other arm to sanitize my wounds.
"Darlene, my name is Darlene," I whisper.
They looked at each other, shock evident on their face. The woman paused on cleaning my wounds while the man hurriedly stepped out.
"I'm sorry. Did I upset you?" I asked in worry.
"Oh no, not you dear, it's just we had a daughter named Doreen. She was killed years ago during a rogue attack. Your name is as beautiful as hers, and you look quite similar…" she says.
“I see… If so, what are your names?”
“I’m Sandy, and my husband’s name is Carter,” the woman answered with a gentle smile. “Nice to meet you, Mrs. Sandy and Mr. Carter!” She then turn my chair around and replied, “The same goes for us.” Then, she cleaned the wounds on my shoulder and under my breast. A little while later, she began to cover me in bandages and also gave me a new set of clothes.
Later on, Beta Bernard came to pick me up and brought me to their dungeons. It was also inside the mansion, and it was far from what I expected. The cell rooms were rather big and even had windows in them. It was warm, cozy, and a thousand times better than my room back then.
"Someone will bring you food and water three times a day. You have to stay in here until the Alpha comes back. If there is anything you need, tell the guards," Beta Bernard informed me as he let me inside a cell.
I looked at the other cells and saw two rogues in their respective places. It didn’t seem like they were having a bad time either. Before Beta Bernard could leave, I tugged on his shirt and asked, "Uhm… Can I have a book if possible?"
Beta Bernard nodded and left the dungeon. I then lay on the comfy bed and closed my eyes. I was trapped inside another pack’s cell, but I still felt freer than ever.
...
In the last three days ever since I’ve been detained here, two more rogues showed up. They were young kids named Felix and Ruby. They are the only survivors after their pack was attacked. Thankfully, the doctors, Sandy and Carter, were always there to help us. They treated the kids’ wounds along with mine.
After helping Felix and Ruby, Sandy walked up to me and began treating my wounds. Along with her gesture, she also shared, "The Alpha would return in a couple of days. He will ask you questions and determine if you are allowed to stay. But trust me, if you tell the truth, you will be allowed to stay."
“Really? That’s comforting…” I said with my head held low in humility.
