Hyman’s POV
"Bernard, please just make sure the pack doesn't fall apart when I am gone," I said to the pack’s Beta as I tidied my things before leaving.
I am the alpha of the Moon Valley pack, so before leaving, I need to put someone in charge. Unfortunately, the playful Bernard could only be that person.
"Yeah, whatever, Gray. Once you’re gone, I’ll turn this place into a party house!” he said in a teasing manner and pat my shoulders.
He is the most unserious werewolf to ever step on this planet, but that’s fine because I knew he was trustworthy when it came to his job.
"Be serious. If any rogues wander in our territory, take them to the dungeon. I will talk to them when I get back. If they are injured, let the doctor see them. Lastly, don’t starve them, and keep calm." I looked at the mirror as I said that. I adjusted the collar of my suit and pursed my lips.
I hated wearing this kind of outfit, but I can say that I look good in this ebony color. My green eyes and fair chiseled jaw complimented my top, while the lean muscles of my arms tightly hugged the fabric.
“I know. You say that every time you go!” Bernard replied, shaking his head. I laughed at his reaction. “Goodbye,” I say, and he salutes.

I had no idea how many days my journey took, but my agenda is far more important than the time I’ll use for this important voyage. After all, being the most respected Alpha in America isn’t obtained by being nonchalant. Above all else, restoring peace is the most important.
For years, werewolves have existed, and more often than not, our kind has caused trouble for everyone, humans and werewolves alike. I groaned as my back tingled in pain. At the moment, I am on my way to my last stop. I would be heading over to the Lock Heart pack. It has been a few days since my journey started, and it’s safe to say that everything’s in order.
The peace treaty I formed with other packs in America ever since I became an alpha is still agreed upon. Perhaps, other Alphas were just afraid that if they didn’t abide by my rules, something bad would happen.
In no time, I arrived in front of their mansion. But before paying a visit, I decided to mind link with Bernard.
"Bernard, how is the pack doing?" I asked.
"Gray, chill! The pack is doing just fine. We have five rogues detained so far," he replied and added, "Three rogues are a good fit to be warriors, but two of them are just poor little kids."
"Kids?"
"Yeah. Ten years old, to be precise. Their pack was attacked, and only two of them survived." I could feel the gloom in Bernard’s tone. I’m guessing it’s because he remembered his late sister who dwelled in the same fate, although she didn’t survive the rogue attack.
A wave of sadness washed over me upon recalling Bernard’s sister. She was three when she was killed, and I was six. I remember her chocolate brown hair and piercing green eyes. She had soft features and a very alluring aura. We were really close, practically inseparable.
Looking down, I pursed my lips.
Oh, how I miss her… I miss my mate… I miss Doreen.
I was lucky to find my mate at such a young age. Never did I think that she would be taken away from me in such a short amount of time.
The day the rogues attacked, I was away with my father. My mother called my father via mind link and let us know what happened. We rushed home, but we were too late. No one was able to find Doreen… or her body.
"Gray, let’s focus on the present. Shall we?” Bernard’s words brought me back to the present.
“Y—Yeah…” With that, I shook my head and bid him farewell. Then, I entered the Lock Heart pack’s territory. The guards saw and recognized me. “Alpha Hyman, it’s a pleasure to have you visit us!” they yelled in unison and escorted me inside the mansion.
They were about to announce my arrival when the gigantic door opened. “Find her!” Ken, the alpha of this pack, screamed in immense anger.
I knitted my brows, and as he heaved, his face shifted toward me. I could see the nervous change in his expression, but he kept it to himself and walked over with a stifled smile. “A—Alpha Hyman? We didn’t expect for you to come this early.”
“I can see that,” I replied and looked behind him. I saw his Luna peeking from the door with a nervous look. “Who are you looking for?”
“N—Nothing. We were just after a rogue that injured one of my men. Anyway, what brought you here? You didn’t specify it when you contacted me,” Ken said.
I hemmed and informed, “I’ve been going around to check if everyone’s following the peace treaty. Recently, there has been an increase in rogue activities. I’m worried that packs who agreed to the treaty are the ones causing this. Ken, do you have anything to do with it?”
Ken fixed his worried stance and laughed heartily. He then patted me on my shoulder and said, “Come on, Alpha Hyman! It’s not like the Lock Heart pack has any reason to disregard your orders. Trust me, we follow the treaty well and don’t contribute to any rogue activities. How about we have some tea inside?”
I looked at him with a judging gaze, but I eventually came inside the mansion to inspect. In the end, I left in relief because the Lock Heart pack seemed trustworthy enough.
Finally, I can go home. “Bernard, I am on my way back,” I mind-linked with him.
“Oh, shoot! Alright, please delay your arrival a little so I can clean up after the party!” he jested, and I found myself chuckling at his silly words.
