Chapter 5: Past Dream

1414 Words
Darlene’s POV "Gray Gray, I'm so scared." The teeny voice called my attention. I turned around to see a little girl with long hair and piercing green eyes. She's standing on the steps of an in-ground pool. Her eyes were wide with fear. She wore a life jacket and floaters on her arms. A boy around six years old stood at the bottom of the stairs, his slick hair shining in the sun, his blue eyes the color of the ocean. He was a good-looking young man and had a kind aura. "Come on, Doreen. Let’s swim and hold my hand. I won’t let you go…" the boy said to the girl named Doreen. "You promise?" Doreenasks, putting her tiny toes in the water. "Have I ever lied to you?" he asks with a smile. "No. You always tell me the truth, Gray Gray," she whispers. "Right? Let’s go!" the boy excitedly said and pulled the girl over to the glistening water. They slowly wet their bodies and began to fool around like a young couple. I watched them from a distance, curving my lips in happiness. Shortly after, Sandy and Gavin arrived with beverages. They sat on the bench to watch the two kids. With them was the younger version of Beta Bernard. He also played with the two kids, and I couldn’t help but chuckle at the amusing scene. Just then, I saw the scene slowly change. A cloud of darkness enveloped my sight, and as if I was watching a movie, I was brought inside the house. I was inside a kid’s bedroom, based on the pink walls and the familiar cartoon characters hanging around the walls. There was a small bed in the middle and a small window that let in the moonlight. “Gray Gray, I’m scared…” I heard Doreen ask and I looked over to the bed. She was lying there, while the kid named Gray Gray was lying on the floor mattress. The boy opened his eyes and propped up, asking, “Why?” Fumbling her words, Doreensays, “What if the rogues attack us tonight? Mommy said that rogues attack at night.” The concern in Gray Gray’s eyes grew vivid. Even though he was a little kid, he seemed mature enough for his age. “Do you want me to sleep beside you, Doreen? I promise you that I will protect you from the rogues!” The little girl’s face lightened up. “Yes, Gray Gray!” She then moved to the side of her bed and tapped the cushion. “Alright,” Gray Gray chuckled and climbed to her bed. My heart was beating at the scene. I don’t why I’m feeling this way, but I feel so attached to this two. Just then, Gray Gray slithered towards Doreenand curled his arms over her shoulder. The little boy hugged the little girl as he whispered, “Don’t worry, Doreen. I’m here for you. I will always protect you.” Suddenly, the view changed, and I saw Beta Bennett in the mix. The place seemed familiar as I looked around in my dream. The dirty room, the crumpled blankets, even the broken TV… Where have I seen this place before? But most importantly, what the heck is Beta Bennett doing in my dream, and does he have any part in this? The younger version of him was kneeling in front of Doreen. She was curled into a corner, and her eyes were red from crying. "Doreen, you are here for a reason," Beta Bennett's voice rang under the moonlight. "Why?" Her tiny voice asked. I can tell that even at a young age, Doreen is intelligent. "You are part of a big prophecy that will let all the werewolves live in peace. I know that you do not understand, but do not worry. One day, you will. After that, you’ll reunite with Hyman," he whispers and moves closer to Doreen. "But I want to play with Gray Gray right now. I want to go home to my mommy and daddy," she cries. "I know. I promise that you’ll get back to them. We have to go somewhere first…" … Sunlight streamed from the windows of the dungeon. Why did I have that dream? That girl is dead! It gave me the chills as I sat up on the bed with a confused mind. I looked around and saw that I was still in my cell. Other inmates were still sleeping. Slowly, my body began to feel like it was burning. Fire coursed through my veins. I whimpered and squirmed. The pain kept increasing, and I felt like vomiting. I started coughing and gagging that I didn’t notice the guard coming up to my cell and unlocking it. "Hey hey, what's wrong with you?" I flinched; his hands were icy. I just continued to cough, gag, and sob. I didn’t know what was happening, so I couldn’t answer him either. "Call the doctor over!” He yelled and laid me on the bed, restricting my movements. Sandy arrived shortly after. She assessed me for a good second and immediately sensed what was wrong. I was still gagging the moment she put out her surgical tools. “What are you doing, Doctor Sandy?” the other rogue inmate asked. “It’s her wolf counterpart. She’s trying to get the bane’s wolf out of her system. This is bad, because if it’s forced, it might leak inside her veins!” Sandy said and stabbed my arm. She let out my blood, and the prickling sensation it brought me made me convulse. “Doctor Sandy, she’s shaking!” one of the panicking guards stated. "I am trying to get the wolves bane out of your system. I am sorry about the pain but it is the only way that you are going to be able to heal," she says back. I nod to her and try to deal with the pain. "s**t… Hurry! Help me bring her to the private ward!” Sandy screamed. It seemed like she has lost hope of performing first aid on me. Damn it, I felt like I was getting closer to my death as every second passed. I felt the person carrying me start to run. My gagged scream out of agony echoed. I felt blood dripping down my chin. Upon reaching the wards, I was placed on a bed and strapped to stop myself from convulsing. Sandy walked over and said, “Darlene, I can’t do anything to stop you werewolf counterpart, but I can give you some medication to help you calm down. Please, talk to her and tell her to stop what she’s doing…” I looked at Sandy as I shook in restraint. Then, I closed my eyes as she gave me a shot of medication. I felt the pain ease out, but I still reprimanded Ariel. “Please, don’t do this, Ariel…” I said. “No!” she ferociously replied. “If I don’t do this, the repercussions will be more severe. Hold on tight, Darlene, because I’m just getting started.” … I had no idea how long I was out, but the fact that I couldn’t open my eyes instantly made me feel like it has been quite a while. I grunted, wanting to call anyone’s attention to help me out, but I guess I wasn’t loud enough. Just then, my ears registered the noise around me. I could hear someone pacing around. There seem to be two people beside me. "Honey, please stop. You’re going to make a hole on the floor if you keep doing that. What’s the problem?” I heard Sandy’s voice. She seemed to be talking to Carter, judging by her words. It took Gavin a couple of minutes before replying. “Honey, Darlene…” he heaved upon mentioning my name, and I grew curious. “I know. She looks so much like her.” Even though they didn’t mention who they were pertaining to, I knew damn who... Carter’s voice hemmed, and then Sandy added, “But it’s impossible. I mean, yes, her body was never found, but that’s because… That’s because…” At that point, Sandy began to cry, and I felt my consciousness slowly losing grip of reality one more time. “Those damn rogues…” Gavin commented, and that was the last thing I heard before falling back into the darkened depth of my mind.
