In all the time since the darkness fell, there had been no news of the outside world. The city, being nestled in the mountains as it was, was naturally isolated, and it was several hours by car to any major metropolitan area. But they had to assume, since there were survivors in Rutberg, there must be others.
It was September. The leaves were just starting to turn colors for the fall. The air was crisp and cool, and morning frosts threatened to put an end to the growing season.
