Chapter 10

Christabel did exactly what Enitan told her when Franca asked her for money when she went back to their room the next morning,

"I don't have any money on me now Franca." She told her then went to get her clothes since she'd already showered at Enitan's hostel.

"Stop being stingy and give me some money please,

I'm hungry."

She wanted to cave in but recalling what Enitan told her last night,

She didn't,

"I'm not stingy,

I don't have any money on me now."

Franca flared immediately,

"You,

You're very stingy,

You have money but still you don't want to help me.

After everything I've been doing for you,

Christy you're very very wicked..."

"But..."

"Hold it!

Wicked thing." She opened the door and left the room,

Christy didn't go after her like how she does before,

She just allowed her leave.

Franca waited outside expecting Christabel to come out and beg her or better still give her the money she asked for but after waiting for awhile and Christy didn't come out,

She left in anger.

Christy called Enitan after she was Franca left,

"I did it." She exclaimed,

"How do you feel?" Enitan asked her,

"I feel good,

She was waiting for me to come and beg her like I always do,

I didn't even answer her and she left on her own." She told Enitan and she smiled,

"Way to go girl,

You'll see if you do it for one week,

Bet me,

She'll leave you." Enitan told her,

"Okay,

I'm coming for lunch today and you're cooking please,

I can still savor the meal of yesterday." Christy joked,

Enitan laughed,

"No problem,

Let's meet later." She said and hung up.

One week later,

Christy was living her best life with her new found friend,Enitan,

They are together always,

They ate together and Enitan even taught her how to be more serious with studies.

Surprisingly Christy found out that she was more intelligent,confident and brave unlike how she does see herself before,

Her paradigm about herself changed completely with Enitan in her life.

Franca who saw the blooming friendship between Enitan and Christy got very angry and decided to fight it out with Enitan,

She blocked her while the latter was coming from class one day,

"See her,

The leech that latch herself to others for benefit,

You're just following Christabel for what she has and nothing more,

I know you type,

Poor rats who....."

"And are you any better?"

It was Christabel talking now cause Enitan said nothing.

"Tell me,

Are you any better?

Or is it jealous and envy that's killing you?"

"Christy,so you chose this leech,

This rif-raf to me your best friend...."

"What best friend?

You mean a friend who follows me because of what I have,

Do you call that a friend?

Enitan might not be rich or comes from a rich family but what is in her head and her hands would buy your entire future."

Christabel spat at Franca.

Everyone around started laughing at Franca who coiled back in anger mixed humiliation at Christabel’s words,

"How dare..." She wanted to slap Christy but Enitan held her hand and glared at her right in the eyes,

"If you try it,

You might hate whatever I would do to you afterwards."

Franca took her hand immediately and rushed out before Christy would insult her more.

Christy took Enitan's hands and they walked away from the crowd,

"Why didn't you react when she was insulting you?" She asked her,

"Nothing,

I wanted her to be making a fool of herself in front of everyone."

Enitan said and they continued their walk to her hostel.

Franca who felt very insulted promised to get back at both Christy and Franca,

So she went back to their room and packed all her stuffs,

She stole some of Christabel's valuables like her jewelries, her mini laptop,her clothes and her shoes.

When Christabel came back,

She was surprised to see her room in a mess,

She rushed in and noticed that most of her items were missing,

She didn't find her laptop,most of her clothes and her sandals,

She rushed to where she kept her jewelries,

They were missing too,

She knew for once who's responsible for it and called Enitan immediately.

"Don't go after her Christabel,

Just leave her." Enitan told her when she narrated all that happened to her,

"I wouldn't,

Don't have such energy plus I can still replace them if I want to."

She told Enitan,

She'd no plans if going after Franca.

"Since she's gone,

Why don't you move into my room,

It would be only me now and it's lonely." Christy told her and she sighed,

"Let's talk about it over dinner tonight.

Sandra isn't around too,

I haven't seen her since this week." Enitan complained,

"Okay."

That evening,Enitan tried calling Sandra but she wasn't picking up,

She met a friend of hers and asked of her,

He said he hadn't seen her since,

So that night,together with Christy,

They went to report to the hostel manager.

The man dismissed them without even listening to them,

"Let me call my dad." Christabel said and she dialed her dad's number,

She told everything to him and he told her not to bother that Sandra was at home with her parents.

Christabel wasn't comfortable especially when her dad didn't tell her what really happened,

So she told him that she'd left that room and was moving with Sandra's roommate,

He said Sandra won't be back anytime soon,

So she was free to move in with her,

If that's what she wants.

"What did he say?" Enitan asked Christy when she dropped the phone,

"He said Sandra's home with her parents and won't be coming back anytime soon.

He refuse to tell me what has happened to her but my gut's telling me something's wrong and he isn't telling me,

Though he said I'm free to move in if it's okay with you."

"I don't have a problem with that,

But I'm worried for Sandra...."

"Me too but since dad said she's at home with her parents,

I bet she's fine."

Christabel moved into Enitan's hostel the next day after lectures,

Enitan helped her take her things from her former room and moved it to hers,

By sunset they had moved everything to her new room and Enitan prepared dinner which they ate before showering and going to bed.

By the end of that semester,

Enitan had successfully changed Christabel,

She even told her about her business and Christabel promise to be of financially help to the business for the next semester.

The day they were to return home,

Christabel transferred a huge amount of money to Enitan's account and asked her to use it to get extra clothes which she would sell for the next semester,

Enitan accepted the money on the note that she'll give back the money to Christabel with 10% interest,

Christabel accepted her request and did the transfer..

Christabel please with Enitan to wait for her cause she wants her to meet her father when he comes to take her home,

Enitan didn't want to wait but when Christabel pleading got much,

She decided to wait with her.

Her dad came to pick her quarter to five and Christabel introduced him to Enitan,

"Good evening Sir." Enitan greeted the man,

He smiled wanly,

"Evening dear,

How're you?" He asked her,

"I'm fine Sir.

Christabel I would be on my way now,

Have a blissful Easter." She told her as she carried her bag and made her way out of the hostel.

"Dad why don't we drop her off before going home?" Christabel asked her dad,

"Enitan wait!" She yelled after her,

Enitan turned,

"What?" She asked her,

"Let's drop you off..."

"Don't worry Christy,

I can manage." Enitan told her,

"Enitan my dad said you should join us." Christabel said,

Her dad nodded,

Enitan wanted to give excuses why she shouldn't follow them but Christabel gave her no room for that,

She went there and took her bag from her and gave it to the driver to take it to the car.

Chief Etuk just watched his daughter pull the other girl with her,

She was very happy,he could see,

She wasn't this happy when she and that other girl,Franca were friends,

Maybe this new friend of hers has done the magic.

The girl is beautiful,he won't lie,

She's slim and average height,

She isn't too dark,just melanin skin color and it shone,

Her skin sparkles without blemish,

All natural,beautiful and smooth.

He hasn't seen any woman as beautiful as this young girl in front of him,

She'd the right curves and figure,

She isn't fat or chubby like Christabel although her body suits her well but this young girl's body he can't really take his eyes off easily.

Whilst Chief sat in the front with the driver,

Christy sat with Enitan in the back seat,

Enitan wasn't comfortable one bit cause when she looks up,

She always sees Christabel's father looking at her from the rear view mirror.

It made her very uncomfortable throughout the drive,

She talked to Christabel but her thoughts were disoriented.

To save herself from the nervousness that was killing her,

She told them to stop them a street from Mrs Okawe's house,

"Thank you Sir,

Have you nice holiday." She told Christabel and her dad as she stepped out from the car.

The driver help her bring out her bag and she took it from him,

"Bye." She waved at Christabel who hasn't stop waving,

She waited for their car to drive far before she stopped a motorcyclist that would take her home.

For Easter,

Enitan stayed with Mrs Okawe's family except her husband who she found out has been sent to Niger Delta for the completion of a project and he would be there for two months at least.

On Easter day,

She baked a cake for the entire family with help from Adesua who was already a pro at baking,

That evening,

She took the kids out,

She bought roasted beef and drinks for them and they walked around before heading back home.

She also called Christabel and wished her a happy Easter,

Yes she wasn't born a Christian and wasn't raised one,

But since the people around her were Christians,

She found nothing wrong in practicing it with them but that still didn't stop her from praying in her religion..

After the three weeks Easter holiday,

School resumed and Enitan resume business,

This time with the money Christabel gave her,

She bought more clothes,more bedsheets,sandals and slippers,

She even tried a few male shirts because of Larry and his friends.

Like the others,

She washed them and took them to a laundromat for pressing and packaging,

Larry's girlfriend was the first person to drop by and she gave her the jeans she'd brought for her,

Then she told her to tell Larry that she has male shirts if he wants.

Thereafter a few girls from their hostel came,

They bought a lot from her and surprisingly this girls don't negotiate,

She tell them whatever price she has and they just take it and pay her and even ordering for more.

Christabel returned that evening and her father was the one who brought her,

When they came into the room,

Enitan was with two girls and a guy who came to buy stuffs from her,

"Eni!" Christabel yelled in excitement seeing her best friend who she hadn't seen for three weeks now,

Enitan stood up immediately to hug her.

"Good evening Sir." She greeted the man who couldn't stop looking at her,

"Evening dear,

I can see you girls are busy..."

"How was your Easter?" Christabel asked Enitan,

"It was good."

"You sell these?" Christabel's father asked her,

She nodded yes,

"These shirts,

I love the design."

He picked one of the shirt,

"How much is it?"

"Its five thousand dad."Christabel said before Enitan could say anything,

Enitan now turned to her with surprise,

She motioned her to keep shut.

"Okay,I'll take two of these." He picked another shirt and gave it to Enitan and she reluctantly collected the shirts from him,

His finger touched hers and she took it back,

"Let me do transfer for you,

I don't have cash here,

Give me your account details."

Enitan nodded.

She brought her cellphone and called her account number for him and he did the transfer for her,

"I've sent it,

Here's the debit alert." He showed Enitan the debit alert on his phone and she just nodded,

Then wrapped the clothes for him.

"Thanks a lot Sir."

"You're welcome,

I'm so proud of you." He winked at her,

Enitan found it odd,

So she just nodded and stepped back to attend to the other girls while Christabel talked to her dad whose entire attention was on Enitan.
