Chapter 5

That might be when I finally got home; I went straight to my room. Madeline was already asleep. I cried seriously. Never have I been so afraid. I couldn't sleep because of my anxiety. When Madeline called earlier, I told her the interview had gone well. I'd succeeded in passing my interview to the professor, but I wasn't at peace. How could I be? Unable to find sleep at 4 am, I climbed out of my bed and headed to the balcony to get some fresh air outside. " What the hell?" I gasped in fear. I could have sworn someone was standing there looking at me. The person was tall and very massive. He wore a black hat that covered his face and a long black jacket that reached his feet. He raised his head and looked at me. I couldn't make out his face. " Holy s**t!" I gasped and immediately stepped away in fear. It had to be one of them. Cillian's supposed contact. " This can't be happening..." I stated. This means he has ordered me to be sped on or even killed. Swallowing hard, I decided to approach the person. But the person had vanished. **** I stayed up all night until the next day. I freshened up and made sure I attended my last class as a university student. After that, I took an Uber to Riker's Island. This time I went as a visitor. Making sure my uncle nor some familiar guards didn't know I was around. I went to the reception and asked to meet Cillian Armani, and the officer in charge looked at me like I was crazy. " Do you know him?" He asked. " Uh- yeah." " How are you related to him?" " He is a friend." " Friend?" The officer asked in apparent surprise. " Yeah" " Are you on his list of visitors?" He asked. " List." " Yeah," he said. " Hold on." The officer took a huge register from the side of the table and began to search. At a point, he looked up at him, surprised. " You're the only one on his visitor's list." " Really?" I was surprised, not knowing how. I got there. It must be one of his works again. " Fine, ID." After some necessary checks, I was allowed to see him. And that was how I did it for two consecutive days. I would meet him, but we would not say anything to each other. I would stare at places while he sat on the other side of the glass. We didn't speak. We would stare at each other till the fifteen minutes given were over. He was more than strange! Why did he ask for this? **** Friday, at last, I came again. I decided to speak for the first time. I picked up the phone from my side and motioned him to pick up his. " Today is the last day; I hope you know that." " I know." " I don't know why you asked me to visit for three days, but at the same time, I don't give a f**k. I've completed my part of the deal. Stop sending people after me, and stop harassing me. Get out of my life and that of my loved ones." I ended. He just stared, emotionless. " You're free." My eyes widened. " Are you serious?" " Omg! I'm out!" I said happily. I was just so happy never to see him again. My life was back to normal. I got my bag and immediately left the visiting room. I walked down the hall with a smile I couldn't contain. Being alone with him in a room was like facing the devil himself or instead facing death. I felt stupid, though; I should never have accepted that assignment in the first place. It was too dangerous, but with some miracle, I'd made it. I'd made it out alive! like facing the devil himself or instead facing death. I felt stupid, though; I should never have accepted that assignment in the first place. It was too dangerous, but with some miracle, I'd made it. I'd made it out alive! **** That afternoon I went out with Khloe; we went shopping for our graduation outfits and shoes. I was so happy; I was alive again. An ordinary girl with an everyday life! Yes! That night I slept so well I saw no strange human lurking around. Cillian Armani had been a nightmare. Meeting him was the first memory I had to erase from my mind. All I had to do now was think about graduating, getting a good job, or working with my parents. And with time, find a suitable hussy for myself. What had happened a few days ago was officially part of the past now. It'd never happen again. **** Saturday finally reached. Kate and Khloe, the twins who were also my other friends, came over and helped each other make up and arrange our hair. When we put our robes over our gowns, we were beautiful and ready to go. The campus was crowded! Parents, friends, and relations had come from far and near to see their loved ones graduate. Even my parents had traveled from Chicago to join in my joy. I was so happy. I was soon to be an independent woman or, instead, a young woman. We went to the grand field and took seats with the other graduates. I looked around and spotted my parents. I smiled at them, and they smiled back. The day was going to be an unforgettable one. The ceremony began, and essential dignitaries made speeches. The vice chancellor made a speech, and it was soon time to give out certificates. The vice chancellor called us out one after the other and handed over our certificates to us; he also took pictures with every one of us. Anytime a classmate was called, we would clap and cheer. ... "Adriana Morgan!" The moment I had been waiting for, there were loud cheers and screams for me. My eyes watered, and my heart was filled with joy. Finally! My years of hard work have paid off. I got on stage and collected my certificate. I waved at my friends and parents, who cheered and clapped for me. Soon the ceremony was over, and we went for the after-party. I ran to my parents immediately after the party and hugged them tightly. " We are so proud of you, my jewel," my dad said happily. " Thank you very much, Daddy." " We love you, dear," my mum hugged me. I spent enough time with my parents as they were to go back to Chicago that same day. I wasn't happy my parents were leaving, but I was glad they made it for my ceremony. I spent the rest of my happy night chatting with my friends. **** That same night Madeline and I chatted about the ceremony and how it went. U was in the kitchen washing the dishes, and she was in the living room folding our laundry. " Guess what?" Madeline. " What?" "Chris asked me to go on a date with him." "OMG," finally? Chris was a cute guy and also my boyfriend. We had been dating for quite some time, and he finally asked me on our first date after many excuses. " Yes, it still feels so unreal." " When are you guys going out," Madeline asked. " Next week Friday, I can't wait." " Girl, you are so lucky." " I know, right." I had a good feeling about Chris and I. I felt things would go on flawlessly. **** That night Madeline and I still talked about the ceremony. The next day would be tiring because we had to pack our things and leave the campus for good. I was going to Chicago to spend time with my parents and return to New York to start my life.
