Chapter 21

1202 Words
Jade’s POV By the time I opened my eyes, my vision blurred. Faint voices, as well as bright lights, were the only things I could hear and see. I felt myself in motion, the word “Get an oxygen,” echoed aloud in my head, giving me a migraine. Even though I was on my deathbed, the only thing I kept saying was, “Save my son. Where’s Aiden?” Tears rolled down my cheeks while I struggled to stay awake. But that didn’t work. I felt a syringe prick me in the arm—like that, sleep consumed me whole. ****************** “She will be fine,” I heard faint voices, which soon became clear as soon as my eyes opened. “f**k,” I whimpered, feeling pain in my head. My hand flew to my forehead, only to see that it had been bandaged already. Quickly, I almost jumped out of bed when the door flew open, revealing Aiden and Jaxon coupled with the doctor. Relief flooded through me, my heart returned to its resting place, a smile spreading across my lips, as I beckoned to Aiden with tears pricking my eyes. “Come, baby,” I beckoned, still ignoring Jaxon for a while, focusing on my little child. I thought I had lost him. How did we survive? How? “Mommy!” Aiden screamed, running towards me, while I tried to lift him, but Jaxon was quick to help me lift Aiden onto my lap, while his little hand massaged my bandaged head. “Mommy, does it hurt?” He questioned, but I couldn’t believe I was much more concerned about him than myself. At this point, I could die for Aiden. In the end, he will be the CEO of Ardor and take over everything I have. “Baby, it doesn’t hurt.” I managed to smile. Seeing that he doesn’t have any form of scratch on him, I heaved a sigh again. Quickly, I turned to Jaxon. “Please, can I have my phone? Where are—” “Relax, Jade. Everything is under control.” Jaxon stepped in, turning to face the doctor who told him I will be discharged in a few weeks, causing me to flinch almost immediately. “I don’t think that can work. I’ve got–” “Thanks, doctor.” Jaxon held me on, while turning the doctor outside, even before I could say any more words. I don’t know what had happened, or how we had survived, but at this point, I’m willing to protect my son’s life at any time and keep his face out of social media. My cover is blown, I cannot afford— “Your dad is here to see you,” A voice interrupted my thoughts, my mind spiraling in anger while I tried to adjust Aiden, who happened to have slept off on me. “I don’t want anyone visiting–” My words were interrupted by the door opening almost immediately. Standing before me was a man whom I worked my ass out for to make sure I was worthy of his trust, his love—but what did I get in return? Betrayal. I should have known the man I called my father didn’t have one bit of trust in me. Five years ago, he had made me marry Silas Thornfield, just so he could save his company. And now? He is here to give me flowers? Over the years, he didn’t make any attempt to look for me. He carried on with his life, and now he’s here to give me flowers? “Jade, sweetheart. Where have you been? I’ve searched all over for–” “Get out,” My voice was solemn and weak, almost sucking the last ounce of air in me. “Ja–” “I don’t want us to drag this matter, Mr. Steele,” “Did you just call me by my name?” He answered, disbelief etched on his face, gently placing the flowers on the shelf not too far beside me. I could see the pain in his voice because for every word he tried to speak, he couldn’t even get past half of it. His eyes darted away from mine to Aiden, who was lying peacefully beside me. “Get out,” I repeated, not wanting to speak with him. My heart raced against the walls of my chest, my trembling hand reaching to my eyes to wipe away the tears about to fall. Picking up the flower he dropped beside me, I threw it in his face. “I'm sorry,” “You think sorry would fix this?” I scoffed, my heart ached so much I swallowed hard, shitting my eyes. I wish Jaxon could show up at this point, but oh well… “What do you want?” I finally calmed my nerves, seeing that he doesn't want to leave. And apparently, this room is more soundproof, so I doubt if my bodyguards could hear us. “It's not about what I want, Jade. Is that…Silas's son? My grandson?” He motioned towards me, but I stepped forward, lifting my shaking body, which was still fixed to a drip. “If you do not tell me what you want I will be forced to call the police on you,” I threatened, taking a few steps back to reach the land phone beside me. If my phone were with me, it would have been easier to reach out to some of my bodyguards. Worse, I don't know whether my Personal Assistant is still alive. “Come home, Jade. Come take over the family business. I'm sorry for everything.” He stated, gesturing with his hand, leaving me dumbstruck for a moment. I felt my vision blur out, my legs weaken, and each of them went numb. A laughter erupted from my throat, echoing so loud I couldn't believe my ears either. “This is a joke, yeah? You are–” “I'm not, Jade.” He stopped forward, dipping his hand into his pocket, showing me the names on most of the files that belonged to the company. Each of them bears my name. “I'm not interested, Mr. Steele.” I lashed back, speaking between gritted teeth, “Get the f**k out!” “I'm your father, Jade–” “You ceased being that five years ago when you sold me to that devil of a man to save your company!” I started, tears rolling off my cheeks. At this point, I don't even care if Aiden wakes or not. “I did everything! I tried my best to make you see me! But no! Morgan was always the good one—you know what, I'm not your daughter and I'll never be a Steele!” “Jade, we can talk about it. You don't need to—” “Hey, Aaron!” I lashed out at my father, calling him by his first name. Reaching for the flowers he had dropped, I thrashed them on his face with his gifts. “f**k you!” “Jade,” “I said get out!”
