Chapter 20

1134 Words
Jade’s POV The moment I stepped out of the hall, I ran into Morgan, my stepsister. But she wasn’t just standing alone, she even dared to be holding on to my son whom I think was missing. “What do you think you are doing?” I raged, forgetting the crowds, and the reporters for once. I might be joking with everything, but what I would never do is gamble with my son’s life, nor do I want him to be associated with these riffraffs. “Get your hands off him,” I snapped, my eyes flickering to my bodyguards who immediately swung into action before I could say any more words. I clenched my fist, biting my lower lip, refraining myself from bursting out due to the prying eyes of people, and reporters. Now that it’s out that I’m the anonymous CEO of Ardor Enterprise, I’m sure my competitors would try to look for anything to hold against me. “Aiden, come,” I beckoned to my son who walked grudgingly towards me, his expression weird, and a bit sad. Pulling him into a hug, I lifted him off the ground, rubbing his golden hair softly. Tears pricked my face as I placed a kiss on his head, whispering the word “Where have you been?” But he wouldn’t even answer me. All he did was go silent, gently placing his little head on my shoulders. In a moment of anger, I handed him over to the guards, while I tried to make my way past Morgan. I had not taken more than two steps when her voice rang from behind. “Why did you come back?” I swallowed hard, my eyes lingering on my son whose eyes were fixed on mine while in the car. I knew what this could cause if I suddenly flared up, so I picked up my gown and continued to walk. “Jade Steele! I’m talking to you!” She screamed, diverting the rest of the reporters’ attention to us. For a second, most of them were with Silas inside as I had left him with a lot of issues to deal with. Now that Morgan wouldn’t let me off the hook, I knew this was not going to end well. “I’m not a Steele anymore, Morgan. And I’m not here to take anything away from you. As you can see…” I paused, watching Silas storm out of the hall to continue barking like the dog he was. Sweat dripped from his face onto his well-tailored suit. I’m sure finding his way out must be hard, due to the fact that he has a little bodyguard compared to mine. He thrashed the paper in the air, allowing it to fly freely. “Jade! You cannot divorce me!” He thundered, voice heavy and sharp. He was about to approach me, when he suddenly got stopped by Morgan who walked towards him in anger, running a hand across his face in a fleeting moment of anger. “Have you gone mad?!” Silas flinched, and I couldn’t help but smile. Just like I’ve always wanted. Exactly like I’ve always imagined it. This was the revenge I wanted. A demure, sweet, smooth one. Where I do not have to raise a finger to watch my enemies come against each other. “Get the door,” I raised a brow, while watching my guards run towards the car, handling the door professionally. “Didn’t I ask you to go back home, huh? You are useless–” Silas stopped seeing that my car was already set in motion. Cameras flickered in their direction as reporters started to question them. I knew I had successfully made a scene out of this whole trip, leaving the whole news in New York City to have something to talk about. I was so happy within myself, that I forgot to ask Aiden while he strayed off for a while. “Where to ma’am?” John questioned, breaking the silence that had lingered for long, jolting me out of my deep thoughts. “We are going home, I’m tired. I need to get some rest from this whole paparazzi,” I commented, yawning lazily, taking off my gloves before turning towards Aiden. “I’m sorry mom,” his puppy eyes met mine, and for a second my heart melted. Even though he looks so much like Silas…I rolled my eyes, knowing this was why Morgan had approached him. She must have known— “She promised to show me, daddy,” Aiden finally broke the silence, leaving me stunned, and scared for a moment. Chills ran down my spine immediately the word “Daddy,” rolled out of his mouth, leaving me dumbstruck. My hands trembled, causing me to heave a sigh to calm my heavy heart. I need to hear it again, because this cannot be. “She said she’s your sister.” He blinked multiple times, before finally adding. “I thought you said you were the only child and that—” “Aiden, didn’t I warn you not to follow strangers?” I seethed, my eyes boring into his, anger surging through me. My heart leaped, my face flushed hot. “She said, Daddy–” “Daddy is dead, Aiden!” I lashed out, raising my voice at my five-year-old son in anger, holding his little hand. In the heat of the moment, he burst into tears, one that rolled down his cheeks while he continued to wipe them off. My heart broke into a million pieces, my hands still trembling from the whole thing. Today was so hectic, I could tell by my throat tightness. I felt so choked, and suffocated, I quickly reached out to my bag, taking out some medications as I poured them down my throat. I wasn’t going to console Aiden either, so I just allowed him to cry while the driver drove along the wet way. I threw my head backward, my thoughts still clouded when— SCREECH! The driver slammed his hand against the brake, causing us to panic, my chest rising and falling as I quickly held Aiden closer to my chest. “What’s going on?” I questioned, fear coursing through me. By the time I looked sideways, we were stuck in the middle of the road with a truck coming from both sides. “Unlock the f*****g door!” I screamed, trying so hard to get out, but it was too late. The driver and John had gone unconscious with blood dripping from their heads. The truck flashed its lights, each of them approaching with a loud horn. “Mommy!” Aiden cried aloud, while I struggled to get us out. But it was too late!
