Jade’s POV
Quickly, I took a step away from him, my heart pounding in my chest. My hands trembled as I locked eyes with Aiden, whose face was filled with a smile.
“Aiden, where did you learn such words from?” I smiled, lifting him off the ground, signaling the maid to take him to his room, but he wouldn’t budge.
The expression on his face says it–he’s sad. I don’t need to see a diviner to know that he is. As much as I hate to admit it, my feelings for Silas were still fresh after five years. But I cannot allow Aiden to be caught up in this web.
It is him I cannot sacrifice. There’s too much ongoing at the moment. Choosing Silas means being selfish and putting my child’s life at risk.
“Jade, if that is my son–”
“Don’t touch me!” I snapped, pointing a finger towards him to ascertain my anger. Maybe a minute ago I allowed anger to get the best of me, but right now…
“Sign the divorce papers, Silas. That’s all I ask of you, and nothing else. Just walk out of our lives as you did five years ago!” I screamed, causing the door to break open, and the guards surrounded the whole house.
Seeing that I was in an emotional talk with Silas, and that tears were dripping from my eyes, they left without any instruction. John stared at me to be sure he was to leave as well.
“Leave!” I yelled, causing everyone to bolt out of the door. Yes! That’s the kind of authority and power that I carry now. I wasn’t ordinary, and so from now on, I wouldn’t act ordinary.
I won’t listen to my heart screaming for me to take Silas back into my bosom. That’s like shooting myself in the leg. Not when Aiden’s life is on the line. Not when Morgan is in the picture.
My heart constricted, my throat tightened, leaving me gasping for air, but I had mastered it. Quickly, I reached out for my bag, taking out some medication which I crunched again with red eyes staring at Silas.
“Do you need–”
“All I need from you, Silas, is to sign the f*****g divorce papers.”
“And if I refused,” He spread his hand, his eyes gazing at the stairs as if he had something important in there…well, except for Aiden.
“We might as well meet in court,” I responded without batting an eye.
“Come back home, Jade.”
“There’s no home, Silas. This is my home now. Right here. With me.”
“You don’t mean it. We have a son now, Jade.”
“He’s not your son, Silas. The earlier you get that into your thick skull, the better for us all.” I flinched, taking a step back to be sure we both are maintaining our distance.
“Is this how you really want to–”
“Silas! Do not forget this is my home!”
“And do not forget my son is here!”
“I never told you Aiden is your son, Silas. Just sign the f*****g divorce papers, and let’s get this over with.”
“Look into my eyes, and tell me Aiden is not my son,” he smirked, more like a sarcastic kind of thing. Like all of this was some sort of joke to him. Or maybe he thinks I’m bluffing…
“I do not need to–”
“Look into my eyes, Jade!” he pulled me closer, my chest crushing against his. The smell of Iodine mixed with spirit hits my nose, and my hand is placed on his chest to support myself from falling.
“Let me go, Silas,” I whispered, careful not to draw attention to myself.
“No,” he refused, pulling me much closer, his hand resting on my waist. I wasted no time connecting my hand with his cheek. Releasing myself from his grip, I took more steps backward, enlarging the gap between us.
“I told you to let me go, Silas. You never wanted this child five years ago! So what now? You think you can just whirl your way into people’s lives and claim them when you so wish? As what?” I scoffed, my eyes fixed on the divorce papers on the couch.
“So you do admit that Aiden is my child?” Silas questioned once again, and this time around, I didn’t give a reply, allowing us to just stare at each other, leaving answers unanswered, allowing him to assume things.
“So, you really did not…” he paused, his eyes darting from mine to my stomach. He took a step back, trying to support himself so he wouldn’t crash into the couch.
Anyway, there was no point hiding it. Aiden was his carbon copy, so it was a thing of the eyes. Anyone can easily recognise him as Silas' boy.
“Silas, I’m tired of our back and forth. I have other things to do.” I heaved a sigh, reaching for the divorce papers, putting them in front of him. “My lawyer will be arriving tomorrow. So, I need you to sign this—”
“You really don’t want to give us a second chance, Jade,” he repeated, his eyes disgusting me. If there’s one character he has, it's his pride. His ego, getting hurt and dragged in the mud.
“There’s no us, Silas. The earlier you understand this, the better for us all.” I corrected, putting the divorce papers still to his face, and handing him the pen to sign on the page.
He took the pen briskly, still staring at me while I waited for him to check through the document files. Ushering John in to take the pictures and videos, I heaved a sigh.
Maybe after this, then we both can go our separate ways, and also maybe I’ll be able to let go of the grudges I held.
“So…you want us to still go ahead. Is that what you really want, Jade?” he questioned, coming closer, but John was quick to step in, halting him in his tracks.
“Yes,”
“Good,” he smirked, “You have two options,” he started, biting his lower lip seductively. “Come back and let’s make our marriage work again, or I'll sign the divorce papers and claim Aiden. Choose…”
