Jade’s POV
For a moment, I stiffened, and my hand clung to him tighter. My body tensed as I tried to find my balance.
My heart raced faster, and I could barely think about anything. The time seemed to stop for a moment, and my breath hitched. I felt a bit weak, and my eyes widened in total confusion.
I was still trying to figure things out when my legs tripped, and to my surprise, he swept me off my feet. My hand whirled around his shoulders as he winked at me.
I do not need him to speak more…I already know what he meant. It was time to switch up to acting mode. We already look like the perfect couple. And if I really want to save myself from this whole thing, I need to act along.
“Sorry, sir, but we cannot allow—”
Quickly, this stranger took the security’s ID card and scanned through the name. “Joel McCall? That’s your name, right?” This stranger raised a brow, one that I could see through his spectacles.
Without further ado, he pulled out his phone and made a call to someone, and in the twinkling of an eye, the security officer got fired.
“He is?” I heard some whispers, but I couldn’t really phantom what they were saying.
For a brief moment, I couldn’t help but stare at this Greek god in the form of a human.
Jesus!
His chest was so broad, his face was clean, and his pair of white teeth sent a shiver down my spine.
My eyes scrutinized his porcelain skin, and within me, I’m certain he’s not just anyone. I can sense that just by staring at him.
His cologne, his coat…there’s just something about him that screams luxury. Right now, I cannot wrap my head around it. At least this isn’t the perfect time for it.
He was the definition of handsome. If being handsome were a person, he could as well stand for the personality.
Just then, my attention shifted, and my eyes finally darted back to the security men in front of us.
“Please…” The security guard gestured with his hand, giving us a pass inside.
And as soon as I was in, I heard the word… “We seem to have found her in the east…”
That was the last thing I heard before we finally settled down, and the plane took off.
“Thank you,” I heaved a sigh, my eyes all puffed as I took off my glasses, wiping off my tears.
I tried not to cry, but I just couldn’t help it. It was so tough. I placed my hand on my stomach, reminding myself that everything was going to be fine.
My stepsister’s voice echoed in my head. “Let’s just kill her…”
Those words hit me so badly, I’m yet to even recover from them.
“Here,” The young man passed me a handkerchief, a thick one, not the regular ones.
“I’m sorry–”
“It’s okay. You don’t need to. I also cried,” He smiled, wiping off my tears as the pilot announced our takeoff.
“I’m not going to ask you about anything. You are welcome.”
Just as he said those words, I couldn’t help but break down into more tears, my voice muffled in the handkerchief, making it impossible for the rest of the people to hear.
And all through the journey, I couldn’t help but cry at all intervals. And with the breeze blowing in my direction, I didn’t realise when I fell asleep.
The announcement once again woke me up from my deep sleep. By the time I looked beside me, he was gone.
I looked everywhere, my eyes surveyed the whole place. I got off the plane and still looked around, but no one who looked like him came out.
“Sorry, did you see this really tall man with a broad shoulder…” I continued to describe him, but no one knew who he was, not even the air hostess.
After waiting for what seems like a long time, I left with the hope of never seeing him again.
********************
Five years have passed like nothing, and here I am smiling at my beautiful son who seems to be having fun with his friends on the school field.
Every year, he reminds me of Silas Thornfield, because he had picked everything from his father except his ears. Those belonged to me.
“Mommy!” he called from afar, running towards me with total excitement.
With my hands widened, he ran straight into them and I lifted him into the air, throwing him and catching him. His giggles melted my heart, and for once I didn’t even seem to care about him having a striking resemblance to Silas.
My mistake of five years ago. Thank God for the fifty million dollars I was able to take from the doctor five years ago; I doubt if I would be able to survive up to now.
“Mom, my teacher wants to see you,” He proposed, his eyes fixed on mine as if to say he was expecting more words than “Okay.”
“Is there something else, baby?” I questioned, while I signaled the bodyguards to get the door.
A frown crept to his face, using his little fingers to scratch his golden hair before finally speaking up. “Mom, you said you were going to take me to daddy when I’m five.”
I heaved a sigh, my heart racing faster as I tried to maneuver the word. Tears pricked my eyes, but I smiled through, my heart racing faster.
Since Aiden turned three, he has been much smarter than other kids in his class. Always telling me how their fathers take them out. Saying he wanted to meet his as well.
“Aiden, listen—”
“Mom, please,” he pleaded while the driver revived the engine back to life.
Just then, a call came in and I held Aiden on for a moment.
“Yes. What’s the latest update?” I questioned, ready for whatever it was for my business to keep moving forward.
“We might have to visit New York to sign the deal,” Came the voice, leaving me perplexed and a bit weak.
“New York…” I scoffed, memories of why I had left came crashing back.
