The Underworld

Chloey’s POV I was surely dead. Some Dark Vampiric Warlock had me in their clutches. I’d never get my first kiss.  “Chloey, shh!” Joey’s voice hissed.  “What are you doing?” I asked.  “Following Marsden. I wanted to see where he was always going. I guess I lost him.” “Why don’t you just ask him where he goes?”  “He won’t tell me, okay? I’m just...worried about him I guess. Wherever he goes doesn’t make him happy and sometimes even I can’t cheer him up.” I was shocked by how upset she looked. She didn’t usually care about the boys she dated like this.  “Jo, he’s a guy. He’s probably meeting up with his friends and doing stuff they're not supposed to do.” I assure her. “Just go back to bed, okay?” “Ladies?” We turned and saw Director Magnus. Oh no, we’re in trouble! “Hello Director Magnus.” Joey smiled. “It’s late.” “We’re sorry, we were sleepwalking. Well, I was and Chloey accidentally tapped into my powers and started sleepwalking too.” How was she so good at lying? “Yes, your mother told me of your extraordinary abilities.” He chuckled. “Why don’t you head back to bed?” “Of course, sir.” I nodded.  We made our way back to our own dorms and though Joey seemed fine when I left her, I could still feel her anxiety over what Marsden Thorton was doing out of bed. *** I didn’t think The Underworld was really my scene. It was loud with flashing lights and blaring music. I was so glad my sisters were there. Though, to be fair, Joey might as well not be here with us. Her and Marsden were in the corner looking like they were trying to eat each other’s faces. I guess Joey got over her anxiety. All I felt from her was intense passion. Zoey was chatting with Zander Craft, but kept glancing at Tate who was arguing with Raina as usual. I smiled seeing Simone and her boyfriend Paxton. I guess students who date outside of the school meet up with their significant others here. Some of Paxton’s teammates were here too. They were really cute, but I only had eyes for one guy. “Isn’t this great?” Rune yelled over the music. “Yeah, it’s pretty cool!” I laughed. “Um...do you wanna dance, maybe?”  “Sure, but heads up, I’m horrible.” Rune’s freckled nose crinkled. “Yeah me too.” He grabbed my hands and twirled me. We were dancing much differently than the other couples. They were all s****l and we were just twirling and laughing. I had never had this much fun with anyone in my life. Rune made me feel special. As he dipped me I caught a glimpse of Joey and Marsden arguing. How strange.  “You okay?” Rune asked as he brought me back up. “Yeah, of course. I’m having a lot of fun.” I assured him.  “Let’s get a drink!” I wondered if this could be considered a date? I mean Rune asked me here, he asked me to dance and now he was buying me a drink. I think things were actually working for me for once.  “You look really beautiful tonight.” Rune smiled. “I mean, you’re always beautiful, but...it’s nice to see you have fun!” “You’re the reason I’m having fun.” I smiled back. “Rune!” Lavina bounced over to us. The only person here who dressed more revealingly than her was Joey, but Joey wasn’t my competition. “Hey, Lavina, you look great.” Rune grinned. “Thanks...so how about that dance?” “Oh um, well, Chloey and I-” “Chloey doesn’t mind. I’ll bring you right back.” She dragged him out to the dance floor.  Their dancing was like the rest of the couples. Lavina was all over him. I wished I was brave enough to walk over and push her out of the way, but I wasn’t.  “Wanna dance?” I turned and saw Cade Pickerin looking at me lustfully.  “No thanks!” I called back. “I’m just waiting for Rune.” “He seems happily occupied.” Cade pointed out. “If I was out with you, another girl would never catch my eye.”  Cade walked away and I couldn’t help but wonder why Rune wouldn't give me the same attention as the guy who annoyed me to no end. Joey’s POV Marsden Thorton had me in a hold like no other guy had before.  I thought about him constantly and I craved to be around him. The craziest part? We hadn’t even had s*x. It’s almost like we didn’t need to. Like we got more than enough pleasure just doing everything but. It was almost special. I spent almost every moment I wasn’t in class or with my sisters or with Director Magnus’s special little group under Marsden. He made me feel unlike any other boy.  Marsden kissed me hard, shoving his hands in my hair and tugging. I loved the pain. He pulled away slightly. “This is my favorite part of the day.” I smiled. “Is that because when you’re not in class or with me you’re doing that thing that makes you unhappy?” He nodded. “What is it?” “I can’t tell you, Joey.” Marsden whispered. “Alright.” I sighed.  “Hey, we should finish our homework. Then we can get back to this.” “You’re different from what people told me you were.” “What do you mean?” He got off of me.  “Well everyone said you were cruel and didn’t care about anyone else and didn’t take school seriously.” “Yeah, um...this summer a lot changed for me. I have to take what I do here seriously. I have to redeem my family name.” “I get that, but why do you do your homework with me?” “You’re the smartest person I know.” Marsden said.  I laughed. “No one has accused me of being smart before.” “Why not?” “Chloey is the smart one. Hell, even Zoey is smart too. But me? Even though we all have the same face, I’m Joey, the pretty one. The wild one...the promiscuous one. I’ve never been the smart one.” Marsden gently touched my face “But you are smart. You’re also all of those other things. You are the most amazing girl I’ve ever met. You’re special and there is no one like you.” I knew this wasn’t normal. No way Marsden Thorton said this to other girls.  He kissed me gently. “Come to The Underworld with me this weekend and then...spend the night.” “Done holding out on me?” I teased.  “Yeah, I am.” *** I loved The Underworld! It was so loud and fun! Marsden seemed kind of on edge, but when we started making out in the corner, that seemed to ease his anxiety. His hands gripped my hips tightly and he pressed against me hard. “Let’s dance, babe.” I smiled.  “Um,” His eyes darted around. “Let me grab us drinks and then we can dance okay?” “Sure.” He kissed me before walking off. “Hey sis!” Zoey hugged me.  “You’re in a good mood.” I laughed. “Tate and Raina are definitely over!” “You really gonna break Zander’s heart like that?” “He’s cute and sweet, but I want Tate.” “I get what you mean. I’m starting to think Marsden isn’t like my other guys.” I admitted.  “Um...Jo, I don’t know about that.” Zoey pointed towards the bar. Marsden was there, talking to Jade Jules. He was doing all his usual moves that he did with me. Twirling her hair around his fingers, giving her that charming smile, touching her face. What the f**k? We’re supposed to be on a date. I stomped over to them. “How are those drinks coming?” I asked. “Oh hey Joey. Can I help you with something?” Jade asked. “No, but I was hoping my date could?” I looked at Marsden.  “I’ll get the drinks in a second.” He responded.  “You know what, this looks tense. Marsden, baby, you know where to find me.” She winked at him. “What was that?” I asked. “We’re on a date and you’re flirting with other girls?” “Joey, I thought you weren’t the clingy type. We’re not exclusive, hell we’re not even fucking.” I tried not to show how hurt I was. “So that whole speech you gave me about being special was just a line? Great. Well, you know where to find Jade, so go do it. Sorry for being clingy.” I wanted him to stay, but instead he walked away. God, how stupid could I be? I almost let a boy play me. Drinks would make me feel better. “I’m sorry, were you just fighting with Marsden Thorton?” I turned to see a tall, handsome guy with striking dark eyes and dark red hair. Now he looked delicious. “I did and I feel dumb about it.” “He can be an asshole.” He chuckled. “I used to go to school with him.” “I go to school with him now. And I almost thought he was special.” “You wouldn’t be the first. He’s charming like that. But his f**k up could be my good luck.” “Meaning?” I asked.  “Well now I’m talking to the prettiest girl in the room.” “One of the prettiest girls. I’m a triplet.” “And I’m Bryce.” “Joey.”  He kissed my hand. “Do you wanna dance Joey?” I nodded.  He grabbed my hand and pulled me out to the dance floor. I couldn’t help but notice we were the center of attention. Did I look that great? “Um, why are people staring at us?” I asked.  “You really don’t know who I am.” Bryce smiled. “I love that.” “Should I?” “You follow sports?” “Oh barely. I know like three Kilcross players. Paxton Razier, who my friend Simone is dating, Dylan Willow, and Bryce...Vossen. Which is who you are.” “Guilty.” He grinned, turned me around. He pressed against me from the back as we moved to the music. Bryce was handsy, but I didn’t mind it one bit. I liked his hands on me. I felt his lips on my neck and closed my eyes in pleasure.  Bryce turned me around again and kissed me fiercely. His tongue was so powerful and dominating. I wrapped my arms around him tightly, bringing him closer. “What the f**k is going on?” Someone yanked Bryce away from me. It was Marsden. “What are you doing, Marsden?” I asked. “Me? You’re all over him! We’re on a date!” “You said yourself we’re not exclusive!” “Marsden, why don’t you go back to Jade and I’ll take care of Joey.” Bryce smirked.  Marsden turned to him. “You leave her alone, she’s off limits. I know what you are!” He hissed.  Bryce seemed unphased. “Takes one to know one, doesn’t it Marsden?” “Gelata pedes!” Marsden shouted.  Bryce collapsed on the floor. Immediately security surrounded us, making sure that Bryce was okay.  “Come on, Joey, let’s get out of here.” Marsden demanded.  “I’m not going anywhere with you.” I glared at him.  Before Marsden could say anything more, security had grabbed him and escorted him out.  “Bryce are you okay?” I asked.  “I’m fine, but I gotta get rid of this curse. I’ll contact you okay? I know where you live.” He grinned.  I watched as he was helped out of the club. What even just happened? Zoey’s POV Zander Craft was a sweet guy.  I had taken Simone’s advice and was spending time with him. He was interesting. Kilcross enthusiast, he collected dragon claws and he had a great singing voice. He said he’d write me a song someday.  Tate was less than happy with my growing friendship with Zander and it thrilled me. He was totally jealous.  “So, you and Zander...what’s going on there?” Tate asked, sitting next to me in the common room. “We’re just getting to know each other.” I shrugged. “He’s a great guy.” “Yeah, I’m sure. So, you going to the Underworld this weekend?” “Oh yeah, Zander was telling me about it. My sisters are going, so I think I’ll go.” “Are you and Zander going like together?” Tate asked, not sounding as casual as he would have liked to. “Um, I don’t know. Simone is going with us too, she’s meeting Paxton there.” “So it’s a double date?” “I don’t know, Tate.” I laughed slightly. “Why?” “Just curious. Me and Raina will be there.” “Good! You guys deserve a night of dancing and fun to really connect with each other!” I smiled.  I hoped they would fight all night. -- My hopes and dreams came true.  I wasn’t sure what started their fight, but Tate and Raina argued the whole walk to the club.  “Those two should just break up.” Zander whispered. “All they do is argue.” “Honestly.” I breathed. “Don’t they get tired?” “Guess not. Anyways, you’ve got a dance saved for me right?”  “Of course I do.” I giggled, glancing behind me. Chloey was talking animatedly with Rune and Joey was holding hands with Marsden and looking at him with adoration. I think she might really like him. The club was pretty cool. It’s a bit loud for my taste, but still seems like it’ll be fun. Me and my sisters went our separate ways. Zander offered to buy me a drink and we talked and laughed while I watched Tate and Raina argue across the club. I saw Raina slap Tate and then leave the club. I was happy to see him not go after her. He joined Zander and I at the bar. He was tossing back a lot of drinks.  “Are you okay?” I asked.  “Can we talk?” Tate slurred. We went out to the back patio. It was empty.  “What’s up?” I asked.  “I hate my relationship, Zoey. I hate it so much. I’m not happy. I-I don’t love her. The relationship is basically over. I have feelings for another girl.” “Oh.” I looked at the ground. How could I think that he actually liked me? He’s Tate Highmore. What would he want with me? Tate gently lifted my chin. “It’s you Zoey. It’s been you since the day I met you.” I was shocked when he kissed me. Never had a kiss made me this ecstatic and weak. He pressed me against the wall, kissing me desperately. I pulled away when I realized what I was doing. “Wait, wait. Tate, this isn’t right.” “I’m gonna leave her.” He murmured, kissing me again. “We can be together.” I smiled. “Yeah okay.” “I’m going to go find her now, okay?” I nodded. One more kiss and he was gone. I sighed happily. This was really happening! Tate and I would be together.  I was on a high when I entered the club again. I wanted to tell my sisters what happened, but I decided to wait until Tate actually ended things with Raina.  I checked in with Joey who was happy until she spotted Marsden talking to another girl. I found Chloey next. She didn’t look thrilled. Rune was dancing with Lavina Stone. She was a horrid girl. I danced with Chloey to make her feel better. We heard a loud commotion and saw Joey yelling at Marsden while some other guy fell on the floor. How was she always in drama? She came up to us. “I’m going back to school.” “I’ll go too.” Chloey said. “I'm not having that much fun.” “Yeah, I'll come too.” I offered. “Simone?” “Paxton went to see if Bryce was okay, so I'll come with.” As we walked back to school, Joey explained what happened with Marsden and Bryce Vossen. “That's so weird.” Simone shook her head. “Marsden and Bryce were like best friends. They never fight.” “Maybe they fight over girls?” Chloey suggested. “No, they've dated the same girl tons of times. Maybe you're really special, Joey.” “I doubt it.” Joey grumbled. We were almost to the barrier that kept people who weren't supposed to be there out. We could see Director Magnus standing outside of the castle doors, welcoming students back. I felt someone shove us from behind and keep walking. “Watch it b***h!” Joey called. “First she flirts with Marsden and now this?” Jade stopped right at the barrier. It was strange. Why wasn't she going through? “What the hell are you doing?” Joey asked her. Jade turned around. Her eyes were pitch black. I couldn't react as she pulled out a knife and slashed Joey across the chest. Joey fell to her knees and then to the ground where she didn't move.
