Chloey's POV
Oh my God. He lied to me.
Like full on lied about being a virgin. How could he? I thought he loved me. You don't lie to people you love.
I stormed into his room. He smiled.
"Hey babe, how did you like the flowers?"
"I don’t know, how did you like having s*x with Jade?" I questioned, throwing the flowers to the floor.
Cade sighed. "Chloey, let me explain."
"Explain what Cade? That you lied to me to get me to sleep with you? That I gave you my virginity thinking you were giving me yours and that wasn’t the case at all? How could you do this to me?"
"I’m sorry, babe, I am. I-I just wanted you to feel more comfortable with me. I wanted our first time to be special, f-for you to feel special."
"So you lied?" I cried. "You looked me in the eye and lied to me several times! What, did you think I wouldn’t find out or something?"
"I hoped you wouldn’t." I raised my eyebrows. "I mean I thought if you did it wouldn’t matter anymore. I mean we’ve already made love, Chloey, this doesn’t change anything."
"Yes it does because you lied! You made me think we were experiencing this intimate thing together for the first time and we weren’t. You’d already experienced it and then pretended to for the first time with me."
"Chloey, it was one girl! It was just Jade. I had s*x with her and then I realized I wanted the next time I did it to be special and then I met you and I knew it was you I wanted it to be with. Because I love you Chloey! I love you okay?"
I shook my head. "No, don’t do that. Don’t try to make this into some complex, romantic thing. It’s simple Cade. You lied to me. If you loved me you would have just told me the truth from the beginning! Did you want to have s*x that badly that you felt you had to make up some story about being a virgin?"
"It wasn’t simply about s*x, it was about s*x with you! I wanted this with you, Chloey! I know I lied, but I did it for us. I had to. I feel like I’m always on the verge of losing you!"
"What are you talking about?" I asked. "I've been in this with you one hundred percent!"
"I see the way you look at Rune Crimson! And I see how he looks at you too! You two like each other and so I had to do everything to keep you with me!"
"Cade that’s not true…"
"Yes it is. I’m not stupid. I just wanted you to choose me and when we had s*x I finally felt like you had. So I’m asking you to choose me again." He said quietly.
"Rune has nothing to do with you lying to me Cade. I need time. I need to figure out if I can forgive you for this. So just give me some space."
"Okay. But Chloey know that I truly do love you, okay."
"Bye Cade."
--
"You and Cade seem...strained." Rune pointed out.
"We are…I don’t know if we’re going to stay together, honestly. He lied to me."
"About what?"
"Something kind of important." I didn’t feel like talking about s*x with Rune.
"Well, I don’t think that’s good. You shouldn’t lie to people you care about."
"What do you think I should do?" I questioned.
"I’m biased, Chloey. I don’t want you dating him."
"Why?" I whispered.
"You know why." He touched my hand. "I want you."
"You want me to what?"
"Chloey, that’s it. I want you. I don’t know if you feel that way about me, but that’s how I feel. I’m not asking you to leave him, but if you did...we could be together. I would be better for you. I-I wouldn’t lie to you. And I know you wouldn’t annoy me the way Lavina does. So just think about it."
He got up quickly and left. I sighed. This wasn’t supposed to be about Rune. This was supposed to be about Cade and his lies. But now it was a factor and now I had to make a decision. Cade or Rune?
Zoey’s POV
I was more determined than ever to find out what Joey and Marsden were doing.
I know she literally just forgave me, but I had to do everything in my power to save my sister. So I would.
Tate and I pretended to be sick to get out of classes early. We followed Joey and Marsden through the school. The route seemed complicated and I realized it was probably purposeful to lose anyone that could be following them.
They succeeded. We turned down the hall. We were sure they went down and they weren’t there.
"Another dead end," I sighed.
"Let’s wait around and see if they show themselves," Tate suggested.
I nodded as I slid to the floor. The minutes ticked by and nothing happened at first, until we heard footsteps. We peaked around the corner and saw Keene Creighton. He stood in the middle of the hall. I almost gasped as Joey’s head appeared from the ceiling.
I strained to hear what they were saying, but couldn’t make out the words. Joey’s full body appeared and she whispered and incantation before falling from the ceiling into Keene’s arms.
He put her down before walking up the wall to the ceiling and disappearing from where Joey had just been. She sighed and walked in the opposite direction.
"What’s up there?" I questioned. "A secret room or something?"
"I have no idea," Tate muttered. "Let’s find out."
He hurried up down the hall and walked up the wall the Keene had. However after inspecting the ceiling found no portal at all.
"Maybe there’s a password?" I suggested as he made his way back down.
"Yeah, maybe. Zoey we have to figure out what’s up there."
"I know."
--
I wasn’t sure what’s going on with Chloey and Cade but they’re definitely fighting. Every time I see them, they’re arguing. Not to mention all I feel from Chloey lately is anger and betrayal.
When I asked Chloey about it she said she doesn’t want to talk about it. Joey told Chloey when she’s ready to talk about it or if she wants to get back at Cade that she’ll break his nose for her. Joey sure will fight for us.
I decided to focus a bit more on my relationship with Tate and how it felt being his girlfriend.
"How much danger do you think I’m in?" I asked Simone.
"At this moment? None."
"But like in the grand scheme of things. Being Tate Highmore’s girlfriend."
"Oh, you mean like that." She sighed. "I hate to say it, there’s definitely a lot of danger that comes with being close to Tate. It’ll become more intense after graduation."
"Damn," I whispered. "I guess dangerous days are ahead, huh?"
"Yeah, but, Tate will do whatever it takes to protect you."
"Really?"
"Yes, you just might not like what he does to protect you though." Simone warned me.
"What do you mean?"
"He’ll probably try to push you away. It’s what he does when he gets scared. You’re gonna have to fight him on that. Make him realize he can’t do everything alone."
"I can do that. I want to be with him no matter what. I guess I just kind of feel like a hypocrite because I’ve been so worried about Joey and telling her she’s in danger because of Marsden and look who I’m with."
"Have you figured out what’s going on with them yet?" Simone asked.
"Not at all. They’re good at hiding whatever it is they’re doing. Sometimes I think they really aren't up to anything bad and just screw all the time."
"That could be it, but where there’s Marsden there’s usually trouble."
I sighed. "Yeah, same with Joey."
Joey’s POV
"Joey, I’m worried about you." Zoey said.
"I thought we were done with this." I groaned.
"No, not like that. It’s just...I’m worried you’re going to marry Marsden the moment we graduate."
"Is that the worst thing in the world?” Chloey asked. “I think they’d be so cute. Marsden loves her. And I’m guessing he didn’t lie to her about being a virgin or anything like that, so I think that’s amazing."
Chloey had not been taking Cade lying to her very well, which made a lot of sense. I wasn’t happy when Marsden was lying to me either. Though to be completely fair he had a good reason to lie. Cade just wanted to get f****d.
"Do you want to talk about it, Chloey?" I questioned.
"Nope."
"Do you want me to break his nose?" I asked.
"It’s fine. I liked his nose. I just hate his lies."
Here we go again.
--
"Where’s Chloey and Cade?" Charleen questioned.
"Probably arguing and breaking up." I shrugged. "Has she not told you of his lies?"
“No, but now that I think about it, she was saying a lot of things about trust when I talked to her yesterday."
"What did he lie about?" Zander asked.
"Being a virgin." Marsden winced.
"That’s why he told me not to mention Jade! I thought Chloey was just a bit jealous of his past."
"She wasn’t even aware of his past." I shook my head.
"Oh that’s awful." Charleen sighed. "I feel bad. I thought they would make it for sure."
“You’re the only Rosaria sister to get lucky, Joey. Your first relationship here is still going strong.” Charleen pointed out.
“What can I say? I know how to pick them.” I smiled. “Plus I couldn’t get rid of Marsden if I wanted to. He’s absolutely obsessed with me.”
“Very true.” Marsden agreed. “But you’re just as obsessed with me.”
“That’s because I can’t live without you.”
--
“This is the right place?” I asked Keene and Marsden. They nodded. “And you’re sure I can fit through it?”
“You should be able to,” Keene assured me.
“Wait, we can’t do this!” Marsden exclaimed. “What if she gets hurt?”
“Mars, the curse will only last one minute. It won’t do that much damage. I’m the only one small enough to fit through it. We can do this.” I stated.
“Fine,”
Marsden put the same curse he put on Jade on me, but minimized it. I got on my hands and knees and crawled. I could feel the heat of the barrier around me. I cried out as I felt my ankle burning. I fell to the ground, gasping as convulsing.
“Take the curse off!” Keene exclaimed.
Marsden muttered furiously and I felt the curse being pulled from my body. The pain in my ankle slowly faded.
“The hole needed to be a bit bigger,” I gasped. “But your spells are working, babe.”
“I’m sorry, Jo.” He whispered. “I-I hurt you.”
“We’ll figure it out,” I said as he and Keene helped me up.
“We should be able to open it up more this week,” Keene said hopefully.
“I’m sorry, Joey. I never meant to get you involved in this, and now you’re basically my partner in crime.” Marsden muttered.
“That’s how I want it. I know what I’m doing. This is how it’s supposed to be. We’re partners, Marsden.” I kissed him. “We’ll figure this out, I promise.”
“I’m sorry about your ankle,”
“It’s okay. Just another sacrifice for what we have to do.”
