I was shaking like a f*****g leaf.
Marsden and I sat next to each other, waiting for Count Killoran to enter the room. I glanced over at Marsden who seemed to be trying to calm himself down. I reached over and grabbed his hand to squeeze it.
“We’ll be okay,” I whispered.
He nodded and forced a smile. “Yeah we will.”
Finally a cloaked figure opened the door slowly before slipping inside. His mere presence was terrifying. He was unsettlingly tall and his footsteps were practically silent as he strode deeper into the room. With every step, I could feel the air being sucked out of my body and being replaced with fear.
He seemed to ignore us at first as he stood in the middle of the room, no part of him acknowledging our presence. That made me all the more anxious. If this was a scare tactic it was incredibly effective. Tension ran through my body so severely I thought I might faint.
“Marsden and Joey,” He eventually stated.
I don’t know why I expected his voice to be booming and rough. It was shockingly calm, though it definitely had some grovel to it. Although his tone was soft, his voice dripped with danger and menace. I wasn’t sure if that was on purpose or just because I was so f*****g scared.
Marsden and I stood up and bowed like Sabrine told us to.
Count Killoran chuckled. “You may sit down.”
We did as he said. Count Killoran floated around the room almost aimlessly before stopping in front of us and taking off his hood.
I gasped out loud.
He was…handsome? He looked no older than thirty. He had glistening pale skin, bleach blonde hair that fell to his shoulders, striking blood red eyes that were black rimmed, a strong pointed nose and square jaw.
This was who had been terrorizing the Witching Domain for centuries? The first ever Dark Vampiric Warlock was actually insanely attractive. I never would have guessed.
Count Killoran laughed again, showing off his fangs. “Surprised are you, Joey?”
“Y-yes Count Killoran.” I stammered.
“I don’t look like the monster they describe, do I? They so desperately want me to be the creature under your bed, which…I guess I could be.” He set his sights on Marsden. “Marsden Thorton…You impressed me. And I don’t say that often. You did everything I said to do. Took down the barrier, helped destroy the Chancellor…turned your girlfriend.”
“F-fiancee actually, Count Killoran.” Marsden responded.
“Oh really? And they say I’m trying to tear everyone apart. Look at me, bringing people together! Congratulations to you both.”
“Thank you Count Killoran,” Marsden and I chorused.
“Marsden I would like you to become more…involved. See the others are a little skeptical about your allegiance to me. They want you to prove yourself.”
“My father,” I blurted out. “My brother too right…Count Killoran?”
“Pretty and smart,” Count Killoran grinned. “Every second you impress me more Joey. You know your father always spoke so highly of you. I always hoped you would be the one to be mine.”
I shifted uncomfortably in my seat, but said nothing. I was worried he could see right through me and know my intentions were the furthest from pure in relation to him.
“So as I was saying Marsden, I want you to do a few raids with Rainer and Rueben this coming week. They’ll report back to me and let me know if my initial impression of you is right or not. I hope you don’t disappoint me. I don’t like being wrong.”
“Of course Count Killoran,” Marsden nodded. “I will not let you down.”
“You’re a better man than your father, that’s for sure.” Count Killoran stated. “And Joey you’re a better woman than your mother. I never got a chance to meet her since I was in my slumber at that time but…something tells me you will prove to be much more useful to me than she ever could be.”
“Thank you Count Killoran,” I whispered.
“Marsden…leave us. I want to talk to Joey alone.”
“Yes, Count Killoran.” Marsden gave me a worried look before leaving.
Count Killoran and I stared at each other for a moment. “Stand up Joey.”
I shot to my feet. He reached his gloved hand out and I took it. He slowly turned me around, surveying me.
“I see why Marsden was so adamant about keeping you,” Count Killoran whispered. “You’re perfect in every way.”
“Thank you-”
He placed his finger on my lips. “Don’t thank me yet, Joey. I’m intoxicated by you. Your scent is too alluring. Your voice is the sweetest thing I’ve ever heard. And I know your taste would be magnificent.”
Was Count Killoran…hitting on me? The possible destroyer of the Witching Domain was lusting after me? That’s so f****d up.
“What…what are you saying Count Killoran?” I whispered.
“I think you can give me everything I’ve ever wanted in this long life I’ve had.”
“I don’t understand.”
“I like Marsden. He’s been shockingly useful to me and hasn’t messed up yet. But when he does, I’m going to kill him and I’m going to take you for myself. You will be my wife, my confidant, my heart. And Joey, you will then bear the Witching Domain’s next great leader. My son.”
What the f**k? There was absolutely no way I could do that! I was in love with Marsden and under no circumstances did I want to bring more evil into this world. I was supposed to be trying to destroy it. My job was to help save the WItching Domain, not doom it.
Count Killoran’s hand touched my face and pulled it to his own. His cold lips dragged across my cheek. “You and I are going to do great things together Joey,” He declared. “And you will not tell Marsden about this, do you understand?”
“Y-yes Count Killoran.” I breathed.
“Emile,” He whispered in my ear. “That’s my given name. You’ll call me that when we’re alone. Which we will be quite a lot.”
“Okay,”
“Say it.”
“Emile.” I murmured.
“That sounds beautiful coming from your lip,” He sighed. “You may go now, Joey. I’ll see you very soon.”
