I had been trying to reach Joey to no avail.
Usually she always answered and these last few days she just wasn’t. She still didn’t even know that we had a way to defeat Count Killoran. I knew she’d be so excited to hear that, I just needed her to hear me.
“Joey? Are you there?” Silence. “I miss you so much.”
Still no answer. Maybe I had to try another tactic.
“Rune and I broke up.”
“Oh my god what?!” Joey asked.
“I knew you could hear me! Where have you been?”
“Sorry, Chlo, things have gotten really heavy around here, I just needed to get my head straight.”
“What’s going on?” I questioned.
“I um…I met Count Killoran and he is easily the scariest man I’ve ever met in my entire life.” Joey blurted out.
“Oh my god. Was he terrifying?”
“Not in the way you think. He’s not physically a monster like everyone says he is. He’s actually insanely attractive. But…everything else about him is horrifying, Chloey. I thought I was going to faint just from being his presence. And…I have to keep doing it.”
“Does he know you’re a spy?” I questioned.
“Oh definitely not. He wouldn’t have told me the things he did if he was aware of that, I’m sure.”
“What did he tell you?”
“Nothing you need to concern yourself with. Now, what did you want to talk about?” Joey asked.
“I found a way to defeat Count Killoran.”
Joey gasped. “You’re f*****g with me!”
“No I’m not…messing with you,” I stated. “I was reading this really old book about Dark Vampiric Warlocks and I found out about this Ligneous Stake. It’s what will kill him.”
“Oh you’re f*****g brilliant! So how soon can you guys get into Tate’s hands? Count Killoran is here right now.”
“Joey, there’s a whole journey he has to go on to get it and he’s not ready at all,” I informed her. “Tate is in a really bad place right now.”
“Okay, but the fate of the Witching Domain is on the line!” She pointed out. “And I’m kind of on a time limit right now.”
“For what?”
“My duties are going to include more than I ever realized. But if we take him out, I don’t have to do any of that shit.”
“Magnus is prepping Tate. Just hang in there, okay?” I asked. “It’s going to happen.”
Joey sighed. “Yeah, okay. Just keep me updated.”
“I will. And I’m going to keep reading. You know there’s shockingly not that much on Count Killoran. Maybe he just wasn’t always called that.”
“Emile,” Joey breathed. “His real name is Emile. Try looking for that.”
“How did you know that?” I inquired.
“Just something I found out. Look I should go, Brody has been on my ass about being suspicious.”
“Wait Brody? He’s there too?”
“Right, I forgot to tell you. Yeah, him and Dad. They're acting like we’re some family again. I hate having to pretend with them.”
“Just be careful, okay?”
“I will. Love you Chloey.” Joey whispered.
“Love you too.”
The connection was gone after that.
This was so much more complicated than I thought it would be.
“How is she?” I turned to look at Rune who was laying next to me.
“She’s more scared than ever, I can feel it. Something happened, but she won’t tell me.”
“Is she safe?” He asked.
“I think so,” I sighed. “I wish she was just here.”
“I know, babe. But you’re both doing the right thing.”
“I never realized the right thing sucks.”

The blue energy had been strange since Joey had left.
It still worked, but it was like it wasn’t as powerful. So I decided to try something new. Today I was going to mind link with Joey while Zoey and I focused on trying to control the blue energy.
Joey could hear everything Magnus was saying as he instructed.
“Let’s see it in the form of lightning. You’re going to try to strike that box and nothing else.”
“We can’t do that,” Zoey groaned. “Not just us. Maybe if we had…I just don’t think it’s possible.”
“Joey is with us,” I stated.
“Chloey what the hell?” Joey asked in my mind.
I grasped my necklace. “She’s here. We’re all still wearing these, so we’re all still connected.”
Zoey looked down at her own necklace. “I don’t even know why I still wear this thing.”
“Because we’re still sisters.” I declared. “Now we can do this.”
I grabbed Zoey’s hand. “Ready? “ I asked Joey.
“Yeah,” She responded.
I thought about the Witching Domain and saving everyone that I loved. About keeping Rune safe and saving Joey from that horrible place. All at once I felt the rush of the blue energy coursing through my body.
My eyes glazed over as the lightning burst out of mine and Zoey’s hands. It floated in the air at first and I focused on the box. Before my eyes, the box exploded.
I shielded my head as pieces of wood flew all over the place.
“That was amazing!” Magnus laughed. “You girls were wonderful!”
“Holy s**t I just destroyed a part of the garden,” Joey laughed slightly. “The energy was here with me too, Chloey.”
“That was so strange,” Zoey whispered. “I swear I could feel Joey here with us. Like she was standing right next to me.”
“Because we’re always connected,” I smiled before hugging her. “Joey will never really leave us for real.”
Zoey pulled away and looked at me strangely. “I still feel her right now.”
She must have felt her through the mind link.
“We should keep going,” I cleared my throat. “Keep the momentum going, you know?”
“Chloey is right,” Magnus agreed. “I have a good feeling about today.”

It was the best day we had ever had in regards to the blue energy. I would have to have Joey in mind more often.
As fun as it was, it made me extremely exhausted. I had meant to take a nap, but when I woke up I realized it was the next day!
I heard overlapping voices of concern. What was going on?
I walked out of my room, feeling groggy and confused.
“What’s going on?” I croaked.
“You’re awake!” Rune sighed, running over to me. “I did everything to wake you up, but nothing would work!”
“Is that what everyone is so worried about?” I asked.
“No…um there’s something else.”
“Well what is it?”
“Tate and Zoey…they’re gone.”
