Chloey’s POV
Mom might be the queen of the most awkward dinners to grace the Witching Domain.
Why would she have Marsden Thorton and Chancellor Agatha Magnus at the same table as though his father hadn’t tried to murder her months ago? Did she like drama?
“Thank you again for having us,” Director Magnus smiled. “It’s nice to interact with the girls outside of school.”
“How are they doing by the way?” Mom asked.
“Just wonderful. Chloey always participates, Zoey is very attentive and Joey is passionate.”
Mom looked surprised. “Joey? Passionate about school?”
“Try not to die of shock,” Joey giggled. “You can thank Marsden. He makes me see what’s important.”
“Does he?” Tate asked. “And what is important?”
“My life, which you should butt out of,”
“As I was saying, Joey has exhibited such an interest in the classes that is pleasantly surprising.” Director Magnus smiled. “All of the sages are impressed with her work. And I’m even more impressed knowing how much she’s helped Marsden improve this year.”
Marsden seemed to force a smile to his face. “Joey really is the best thing that has ever happened to me.”
“You know Marsden, I’ve become very impressed with your work. How would you like to join our little club?”
“What?!” Tate asked. “He can’t join!”
“Well why not?” Cade asked. “It would be cool to have a friend in there.”
“Am I not enough?” I teased.
“Nah,”
“I think it’s a great idea,” Joey smiled. “And Marsden would really benefit from it.”
“But isn’t he way too busy with school work and all of that?” Zoey questioned.
“I can juggle,” Marsden stated. “Thank you sir, I really appreciate this.”
“Why is he getting special treatment?” Tate demanded.
“The whole club is special treatment, Highmore!” Joey snapped.
“Tate, let’s not be aggressive,” Director Magnus warned. “It’s good to have more members.”
“I agree,” I spoke up. “Interacting with people from different backgrounds is really important and crucial to growing as a person.”
“That’s very true!” Chancellor Magnus smiled. “Chloey, you are such an intelligent young woman.”
“Oh thank you, Chancellor, that means so much!”
“I’m very impressed with all of you. So impassioned and excited about your future. It’s good to know my husband is actually doing a good job with you all.”
“With most of us anyways,” Tate muttered.
“You know what Tate?” Joey asked. “You are a t**t!”
Couldn’t we have one nice meal?
Joey’s POV
I hated Tate Highmore.
He was obnoxious and entitled and I wanted to punch him in the face more than anything. He was determined to ruin my relationship with Marsden.
“Joey!” Mom exclaimed. “That’s no way to talk to your sister’s boyfriend.”
“No one told her to date him,” I huffed.
“Um, so who are your favorite sages at school?” Chancellor Magnus asked.
“Redwood, of course.” I smiled.
“Is she your favorite too, Marsden?” Tate questioned.
“Yes, actually she is. She sees the potential in me.”
“I’m sure she does.”
“Can we go now?” I asked bluntly. “Obsidian is gonna get crowded.”
“Joey we have guests,” Mom hissed.
“Guests who probably don’t want to spend the evening with a bunch of twenty year olds.”
“I don’t know I’m having fun,” Tate grinned.
“Yeah, me too.” Zoey agreed. “So, Director Magnus, do we have an update on Jade at all?”
I glared at her. What the hell was wrong with her?
“She’s doing well,” Direct Magnus.
“Isn’t that good to hear, Marsden?” Tate asked. “I mean you were with her that night right?”
“I’m very glad she’s recovering,” Marsden said quietly.
“You know, if you guys want to leave-”
“Yes, thank you!” I interrupted Chancellor Magnus. “It was so lovely to meet you Chancellor and…Director Magnus, we’ll see you at school!” I grabbed Marsden’s arm and quickly emitted out of the house.
“I need a drink!” I announced when we arrived.
“You need to relax babe,” Marsden said. “Dinner was not that bad.”
“Did you hear Tate and Zoey? Ugh they’re horrible.”
“I don’t want to talk about them, baby.”
Marsden put his hands on my hips and pressed me against the wall before kissing me hard and slow.
“You know, we have time to f**k one more time before the year is over,” Marsden murmured.
“Mars!” I smiled. “We can’t do it here,”
“Sure we can,”
He grabbed my hand and pulled me through the dark club. He looked around before opening the supply closet and shoving me inside.
I heard him mutter a spell to lock the door before lifting me off my feet. He kissed me wildly as my back collided with the wall. I ran my fingers through Marsden’s soft hair as he unbuckled his pants.
I whimpered as I felt Marsden push his erection inside of me. “Oh, Marsden!”
“Jo, you’re so f*****g good,” Marsden shuddered.
He thrusted into me deeper, as he put his lips on my neck. The familiar feeling of his fangs scraping against my skin made me shake. As much as I hated what he was, a part of it was so sexy.
I tightened around Marsden’s d**k as the pleasure surged through my body. He grunted in response and pumped harder. I could tell he was desperately chasing his orgasm.
I would help him catch it.
“Oh just like that, Marsden.”
He kissed me, shoving his tongue in my mouth. “I love you, Joey,” He whimpered against my lips.
“I love you Mars…baby…I want to marry you.”
Marsden gasped as he abruptly reached his climax.
“You mean it?” He asked. “You’ll marry me one day?”
I smiled. “I’d marry you tomorrow, if I could.”
Zoey’s POV
Oh we’re on to Marsden.
Joey was acting so strange and jumpy at dinner, because they obviously had something to hide. We were going to figure it out, but we definitely had to tone it down. We were pissing Joey off and I couldn’t lose her, especially after the oath we had made.
“Okay, so I know we want to catch Marsden, but we have to be a little more subtle about it,” I told Tate as we weaved through the crowd at Obsidian.
“But he’s up to something now! We have to figure out what it is!” Tate exclaimed.
“Yes, but we’re not gonna figure it out during a dinner. Or here for that matter. It has to be back at school.”
“What if it’s too late?”
“It won’t be. But…Joey is my sister, Tate. She’s not some pawn in this horribly dangerous game. Of course I want to find out what Marsden is up to, but more than that, I want to keep my sister safe. She thinks she can handle whatever this is and she can’t. She’s the priority for me, Tate.”
He sighed. “I understand it, I do. But baby, this is bigger than Joey. This is…I don’t know, but Marsden is crucial to something for Count Killoran. This is what my family was born to do. To stop him. I have to do everything in my power to do that.”
“And you will, but please don’t make me choose between you and Joey.” I turned to face him. “I don’t want to. You both mean a lot to me.”
“She’s choosing Marsden Thorton.” Tate stated. “And choosing him…means choosing that life.”
“Joey isn’t a bad person,” I insisted. “She just fell in love with the wrong guy.”
“Okay, we’ll be more discreet, but we have to figure it out.”
“We will. But this isn’t going to be all we do right? You’re going to have time for our relationship? I know Marsden is handsome, but you can’t have all your focus on him.”
“Thorton? Handsome? I’m better looking right?” He pulled me to him again.
“Of course you are. And you’re not evil, so that’s a bonus.” I kissed him. “I can’t believe I get to do this all of the time now!”
“That makes two of us. I think this relationship will be good for us. I finally feel like I’m with someone who understands me.” Tate murmured, putting his hands on my face.
“Me too.” I giggled. “Let’s go find my sisters.”
As I looked around I spotted Joey and Marsden in the corner making out like crazy. I saw Chloey and Cade at the bar. They were kissing too. Why were my sisters so horny anyways.
“Um, I don’t think your sisters would want to speak to us right now,” Tate chuckled. “But I wouldn’t mind doing what they’re doing.”
Tate kissed me passionately as we started moving to the music.
While I was happy to be in his arms, I was still worried about all that we would have to do next year to save my sister’s life.
