Zoey's POV
The remainder of the break went by quickly. Before I know it we’re back at Stormine. Both Raina and Zander look pretty furious upon seeing Tate and I holding hands. I try not to let it get to me. I’m happy with him and that’s what should matter.
This was the first time me and my sisters all have boyfriends and all the relationships were going well. Chloey and Cade were still happy as ever. They’re all over each other all the time. There’s a lot s****l energy going on there. Joey and Marsden, were of course still wrapped up in each other. I never saw them on their own. Marsden walked her to every class and they disappeared together after classes all the time. I don’t know if they’re screwing or up to something dangerous.
Tate and I had no real leads on what they’re doing. I also didn’t think we’re trying as hard as we should be. But it’s hard when all we want to do is kiss each other. We hadn’t had s*x yet, but I was sure it’s just a matter of time. We didn’t want to rush into anything.
“I’m going to get tired of kissing you at some point. Just not anytime soon.” Tate smiled.
“But you are going to get tired of it?” I teased.
“Not for ten years at least.”
“Funny, Highmore.” We kissed again.
“Okay, maybe I lied. I could kiss you for the rest of my life.” Tate said. “And I could look at you for even longer.”
“You’ve got a school boy crush on me. That’s embarrassing.” I laughed.
“Well aren’t you two just adorable.” Raina had approached us. “Remember when you said I was crazy for thinking you liked her at all? Look at you now.”
“Raina, I already told you, our relationship was going down even before I even met Zoey.”
“Sorry if I don’t believe you, Tate. You seem to lie to me quite a lot. And cheat.”
“Look Raina I'm sorry for the way things happened, but you got your revenge.” I said. “You cursed me in my own home which caused me to say awful things to my sisters. What more do you want?”
“You to suffer.” Raina whispered. “You know Tate, I think it’s really f****d up that you cheated on me with Zoey!” She said loudly.
Everyone in the vicinity was looking at us.
“Raina don’t.” Tate warned.
“Don’t what? Be upset that the boy I loved doesn’t love me anymore? Do you also want Zander not to be upset that you stole his girlfriend?!”
My face was getting hot. This was humiliating.
“Raina stop it!” I snapped.
“No!” She shouted.
Before I could say anything, Joey was storming up to us.
“Hey, Crimson!” She shoved her. “You have something to say to my sister, you say it to me.”
“Joey, babe come on.” Marsden begged, pulling her away, but she got out of his grip.
“You know what Zoey said about you was right. You’re dumb, you’re slutty and you have s**t taste in boyfriends. He’s gonna get you killed.”
Oh that was about the worst thing she could have said to Joey. I felt the rush of rage that Joey felt right before she hit Raina in the face. Raina fell to the floor and Joey got on top of her and was just wailing on her. They wrestled on the ground as boys whistled and cheered and Tate and Marsden tried to break up the fight.
I watched in shock as Joey’s fist collided with Tate’s jaw when he touched her. “Ouch!”
“She didn’t mean it!” I called.
Finally they were separated. “You ever come near my sister again and you’re gonna live to regret it!” Joey screamed.
“Are you gonna send Dark Vampiric Warlocks after me?” Raina spat as blood trickled down her nose.
“What is the meaning of this?” Giselle asked hurrying over to us.
“Joey attacked me!” Raina cried.
“Joey is this true?”
“Yes it is.” Joey said. “And I’d do it again.”
“Both of you to the Director’s office! Marsden, please escort your girlfriend to make sure she doesn’t attack any more students.”
“Come on babe, let’s go.” Masden pulled Joey, who was still fuming, away.
Raina yanked her arm out of Tate's grip and stomped away.
“That was insane.” I laughed slightly.
“Joey really cares about you, huh?” He asked.
“Yeah. You see why I can’t mess up our relationship with her? I don’t know what I’ll do without her.”
“I get it. I promise we’re going to save her from Marsden. She’ll be safe.” He hugged me tightly.
I really hoped he was right.
Chloey’s POV
“Chloey, wait up?” I turned and saw Rune. I hadn’t talked to him since the fiasco at Yuletide.
“Hi Rune.” I said.
“Hey, how was your break?”
“Wonderful, you know, other than your sister cursing mine and ruining Yuletide for my family.”
“On behalf of Raina, I do apologize. She shouldn’t have done that. But to be fair Zoey shouldn’t have kissed her boyfriend.”
“If you want to get technical, Tate kissed her. It was kind of his fault. And he’s the one who should have some sort of allegiance to her. If you ask me, maybe she should have cursed Tate.”
“That’s harsh.”
“I’m not trying to be. I just don’t think what he did was very nice to anyone involved. He hurt Raina, he confused Zoey and he betrayed Zander.” I explained.
“Yeah, I guess you’re right.” He sighed. “Um, are you and Cade still…”
“Yep. It’s going well. He’s great.”
“That’s good.”
“And you and Lavina?” I questioned.
“Still together.”
“You don’t sound happy about that. “ I pointed out.
“I like her, but...have you ever noticed how annoying she can be?”
I tried not to laugh but I couldn’t help it. “No, of course I haven’t.”
Rune grinned. “You have! Why didn’t you tell me?”
“I mean I’m not dating her, so it didn’t feel like it was my place to say anything.”
“That’s fair. I’m thinking of breaking up with her.”
“Oh no.”
“Yeah you sound really torn up about that.”
I giggled. “I am, really. I’m very upset about this news. I was really rooting for you.”
Rune laughed. “Yeah I’m sure. Sorry to disappoint you.”
“Eh, I’ll get over it at some point.”
“Well maybe once she’s out of the picture, we can be friends again?”
“I’d really like that Rune.”
“I would too. Honestly I don’t feel good talking to anyone else but you.”
“That’s sweet.” I smiled.
Okay, so I really do like Cade, but I think I maybe have the tiniest bit of feelings for Rune still. No one makes me laugh the way he does and our chemistry is out of this world. We just get on so well.
“There you are, babe.” Cade said coming up behind me and kissing my cheek. He wrapped his arms around my waist. “I missed you like crazy.”
“I missed you too.” I said.
“Oh hello Rune. How are you?”
“Fine Cade, and you?”
“Brilliant.”
“Rune, where have you been?” Lavina whined as she clung to him. “You were supposed to meet me ten minutes ago.”
“Sorry, lost track of time.” He shrugged.
“I can see that.” She looked at me with a frown. “How are you Chloey?”
“Lovely. You?”
“Wonderful.”
“Good.” I forced a smile.
“Marsden please don’t use that tone with me, I don’t like it.” Joey’s voice said loudly echoing through the hall.
“I’m sorry babe, but I told you not to do that! Now you’re in trouble.”
“I can handle it honey, it’s not a big deal.”
“I’m not worried about that, I’m upset because we were supposed to have s*x!”
“You’re not whispering.” I informed them when they reached us. “What’s going on?”
“Your sister has to go to the Director’s office.” Marsden sighed.
“What did you do?” Rune asked.
“Beat up your sister.” Joey smirked as Marsden pulled her away.
Rune and I exchanged looks. “I guess our sisters are never going to get along.” I chuckled nervously.
“Yeah. Good thing we do.” Rune smiled.
“Chloey, darling, you were going to help me with homework, right?” Cade asked.
“Yeah, Rune we should get going.” Lavina said.
“I guess I’ll see you later.” I said, allowing Cade to turn me around and lead me away.
“What do you think about a little kissing and maybe…other things?”
“Sounds good to me.” I smiled thinking about what Rune had said.
Sometimes I felt like I only felt that good talking to him too.
Joey’s POV
I’m pretty shocked this is my first time getting sent to the Director’s office. At my old school I was always in trouble, but I had calmed down since arriving at Stormine. Maybe because instead of being thrown into love triangles and teenage drama, I was now thrown into a world of Dark Vampiric Warlocks and almost impossible missions.
I really had changed.
It was uncomfortable sitting in front of the man my boyfriend was supposed to kill with no one else around. It was almost like he could see right through me.
“Joey, I must say I’m actually glad to see you.” Director Magnus stated. “I’ve been meaning to meet with you privately.”
“Really?” I asked. “Why is that?”
“Well, when your transcripts came over, I couldn’t help but notice you got in a bit of trouble at your old school. This hasn’t happened much here at all.”
“I think I’ve been more occupied here.”
“I see. I imagine because of your intense relationship with Marsden Thorton.”
I gulped. “Well, sir falling in love for the first time is pretty insane. I’m sure you know about that.”
“Sure, I do.” He stated.
I nodded. “So what will my punishment be sir?”
“I don’t want to talk about a punishment for you, Joey.” Director Magnus admitted.
“So what do you want to talk about?”
“Are you okay?”
“Of course I am.”
Director Magnus studied me. “And Marsden? How is he?”
I shifted uncomfortably. “He’s fine.”
“I know that isn’t true. There’s been a...shift in him. I fear he is in grave danger, as are you by association.”
No way Director Magnus knows what’s going on. I mean he was saying he was impressed with Marsden and his improvement. He couldn’t be aware of his task.
“Have you been talking to Tate Highmore?” I asked. “As you know he has a weird vendetta against Marsden and me.”
Director Magnus chuckled. “I’ve known Tate for many years. He's a spirited young man who acts with his heart. I’m sure he doesn’t mean any harm.”
“Well he’s still attempting to wreak havoc.”
“I’ll speak to him. Now back to you and Marsden. Joey you two are so young and innocent. I can help you.”
“Th-there’s nothing to help, we’re fine.” I insisted.
I knew he didn’t believe me. “It’s a heavy burden, isn’t it? Trying to manage something that is so much out of your control? Especially when you’re so unequipped to handle a situation that is so dire.”
“I’m more than equipped. Nothing is going on that Marsden and I can’t handle. We’re fine. And not only do we not need your help, but if we did, there’s no way we could accept it.”
“And why not?” He asked curiously.
“Because no one could help us.” I whispered. “Now may I be excused? I have a lot of homework to attend to.”
“Of course. And should you need help, please come speak to me, Joey. I am more than willing to do what I can. For you and Marsden.”
“I appreciate that sir. Thank you. See you at the next meeting.” I got up and rushed out of the office.
I was pretty sure Director Magnus at least had an inkling about Marsden’s mission. He definitely knew we were in danger. Should I tell Marsden?
No, definitely not. I couldn’t stress him out more than he already was at the moment.
