After the Rainbow Moon

Chloey’s POV “What’s going on?” I cried.  “I don’t know!” Rune said in a much deeper voice than usual. “I think the Rainbow Moon did this to me! I felt so sick that first morning and then I noticed I started growing a lot of hair. But lunch I was…this!” “So that’s why you didn’t want to cuddle with me?” “Yes. Usually I would have wanted nothing more than to cuddle you, babe.” “So you’re a…” “Werewolf it looks like.” “But this is like just a Rainbow Moon thing right?” I asked.  “I think so. I don’t know how this happened.” Rune whined.  “I’ve heard about this before. Some people get these powers during the Rainbow Moon.” “This isn’t a power, I’m a dog!” “A very cute one.” I offered.  I think Rune was smiling. His teeth were kind of bared and there seemed to be some kind of happiness in his now small blue eyes. I was glad that he still had his eyes. They were one of my favorite things about him.  I slowly walked over to Rune and reached out to touch him. His fur was soft and fluffy. I hugged him tightly. His big hairy arms wrapped around me in response.  “I missed you,” Rune whispered.  “I missed you too, Rune. Can we cuddle now? When we wake up I’m sure you’ll be back to normal. The Rainbow Moon will be gone.” “I’m worried I’ll hurt you.” “You’d never hurt me. I’m not scared.” Rune nodded before releasing me. He uncomfortably clambered into bed. I slid in next to him and cuddled him.  Before I knew it I was falling asleep in my werewolf boyfriend’s arms. -- I sighed as I woke up.  I looked up and there was Rune, how he usually looked. Pale, freckles and blonde hair. My boyfriend was back.  I shook him gently. “Babe, you’re back to normal.”  Rune groaned and ran his fingers through his hair before shooting up. “I’m me again!” He exclaimed. “Chloey I’m back!” “I’m so glad!” I kissed him happily.  Rune hopped out of bed. “I get to go to classes and see people! This is so exciting!” “You barely like classes,” I laughed. “I have a new perspective on life Chloey! Let’s go shower!” He happily ran into the bathroom. I sighed in content. Things were finally back to how they should be. -- Rune’s great attitude was kind of amazing. I just loved seeing him smile and find the beauty in everything.  “Did you and Chloey have great morning s*x or something?” Marsden asked. “I’ve never seen you this happy.” “No…I mean yes, but that’s not the only reason I’m so happy.” Rune grinned. “The Rainbow Moon showed me how great life can be.” “It did the same for me,” Joey smiled. “We had such a great week.” “Life is getting better as we speak,” Marsden kissed Joey. “I love you so much.” “I love you more.” They kissed again and this time they didn’t stop.  “Oh can you guys knock it off for five minutes?” Zoey huffed as she sat down. “What’s wrong?” Rune asked.  “I dumped Tate yesterday and I fully regret it.”  “So tell him that,” Joey stated.  “He won’t speak to me.” Zoey sighed.  “So make him,” Marsden stated. “Remember when Joey was going to break up with me? I fought for us to be together and now look at us.” “I don’t want to be like you guys!” ‘ Joey was taken aback. “The way Tate can affect your moods is seriously wretched! Marsden and I didn’t do anything to you Zoey. The Rainbow Lunar Phase is over, you don’t have to be so miserable anymore!” She shot up and stalked off.  “Babe!” Marsden went after her. “That was mean, Zoey” I scolded.  “I’m sorry, but I don’t want relationship advice from them.” Zoey grumbled.  “They’re the most healthy couple we know. They love each other and have the utmost respect for each other. I mean they argue because they’re so in love!” Rune stated.  “Whatever, I still don’t want to be like them!” Zoey stomped off. “That was almost enough to ruin my good mood,” Rune shook his head before kissing me.  “What was that for?” I asked.  “I think we should kiss more. It makes me happy.” “More kissing? I don’t know if I could handle such a thing,” I teased. “You’ll get used to it, don't worry.” -- Rune’s good mood continued throughout the day.  Being in his presence had never felt so amazing. He was also making me see the beauty in every day life.  After making love we slipped into sleep until I was awoken by Rune snoring loudly.   I nudged him. “Babe, you’re snoring.” “Sorry,” He grunted as he turned around. I cried out in shock.  “What’s wrong?” Rune questioned.  “You um…Rune…you’re a werewolf again.” Joey’s POV I couldn’t believe it. The barrier was down. Marsden had completed his task. His life wasn’t on the line for now. Most of all, he didn’t have to hurt Director Magnus. “Why do we still hang here?” Keene asked, looking around the secret room in the Celestial Tower. “I kind of love it up here,” I admitted.  “We’re just trying to make sure the barrier is officially down,” Marsden informed us. “If I tell Count Killoran it’s down and then it’s not true he will kill everyone in this room.” “Cheery,” I commented.  “Just being honest.” “So does Director Magnus not know the barrier is down?” Keene questioned.  “Not unless he comes here to check, which he practically never does.” Marsden said. Marsden had no idea that Director Magnus used to check weekly, but no longer did once he found out about Marsden’s task. He still won’t tell me how he found out. He said it was not my concern. “Well I hope it’s really down,” Keene stated. “This has been the most stressful thing in my life. I can finally focus on Misty again and feel normal.” “What even is normal anymore?” I asked.  “Normal is you and me getting married and having kids and all that shit.” Marsden grinned.  “Wow, when you say it like that, it sounds so romantic!”  “Okay…the moment of truth.” Marsden winced.  I held my breath and released it when he smiled. “It’s down! It’s really gone!” Marsden hugged me and lifted me off my feet as Keene whooped and laughed.  “I knew you could do it,” I kissed Marsden.  “Only because of you.” “Um!” “And you too Keene,'' Marsden rolled his eyes. “The horror show is over, baby. You’re not in danger anymore.” -- “So what do we do now?” I asked.  “She doesn’t have to be around Dark Vampiric Warlocks now, right?” Chloey asked.  Magnus sighed. “That’s not exactly true.” “What do you mean?” “Chloey, the war is far from over. We still need someone on the inside.” “And that has to be my sister?” Chloey cried. “Director Magnus, she’s twenty! She can’t handle what you’re asking her to!” “Chlo, it’s okay, I can.” “No you can’t!  Joey, this is too dangerous, please!”  “Chloey, I would never have Joey do anything I didn’t think she was capable of. She’s the only one who can do this.” Magnus said quietly. “For the Witching Domain.” “If saving the Witching Domain means putting my sister in danger, I don’t want to do it anymore, it’s not worth it!” Chloey shook her head.  “Yes it is.” I whispered. “We can help Tate defeat Count Killoran again. And then in another fifty years, it will be someone else’s problem. But we can save people this time around. You always wanted to do something different from Dad and Brody. Something that would change the world, this is it Chloey.” Chloey was looking at me with shock and admiration.  She nodded. “You’re right. I’m just so scared.” “I’ll be brave enough for both of us,” I assured her. “And you be smart enough for both of us.” “You’re smarter than you think, Joey.” “Still not smarter than you.” Chloey turned back to Magnus. “Okay, what’s the next step?” -- Marsden was so different since taking down the barrier. He was lighter and smiled more.  “It was such a beautiful day today.” He sighed happily.  “You’re in a good mood.” I smiled.  “I got word back from my mother. Count Killoran is happy with me.” “So um…what was the reason for taking down the barrier again?”  “I was never told why, I was just told to do it. I don’t think I want to know the answer anyway.” “Marsden, what are we going to do after graduation?” I questioned.  “I’ve been thinking about that a lot, honestly. I have a few ideas, I just want to make sure they’ll work out. What do you want to do?” “I want you to turn me into a Dark Vampiric Warlock.” Zoey’s POV “Tate, wait!” “I’m really busy right now, Zoey.” He called over his shoulder.  “Please just talk to me,” I begged. “I think we should talk about yesterday.” “I’m not really in the mood to go over you breaking up with me again.” “But I didn’t mean to-” “Well you did, Zoey.” Tate snapped. “I’m serious, I don’t want to talk right now. Maybe later on, but right now I can’t!” He stomped off. -- I was an i***t.  Why had I broken up with Tate? He clearly wasn’t in his right mind and was being controlled by the awful power of The Rainbow Moon. Still the things he said really hurt my feelings.  Did he really think about me like that? That I was easy to steal and unloyal? That wasn’t fair to say. Before him I was incredibly loyal and had been since I’d been with him.  He had no right to say that about me. I was starting to realize that maybe I hadn’t done anything wrong. I mean I think I had a pretty rational response to what he was saying to me.  So I didn’t have to apologize to him, he had to apologize to me! But would he? I wasn’t sure, but in the meantime, I owed Joey and Marsden and apology for what I said.  Even if it was true. I mean sure they were a cute couple and obviously very loving and passionate, but having a boyfriend that had the potential to get me killed wasn’t particularly appealing to me.  Still I should apologize.  Lately Joey and Marsden weren’t hard to find. It was strange but it was like they weren’t sneaking around anymore. I had no idea what that meant.  Maybe they were never really up to anything to begin with. I had let Tate warp my mind.  “Hey,” I smiled sitting down across from them.  “Hello,” Joey said stiffly.  “I wanted to apologize for what I said. It was mean and I was taking my frustration out on you guys.” “It’s okay,” Marsden smiled. “Life's too short for something so small to bother us.” “Maybe your life is,” Joey stated. “I am quite bothered.” “Well why?” “You know Zoey has been on me for years to get a boyfriend and try to settle down and now that I have she seems to always have something bad to say about my relationship and I’m sick of it!” “That’s very fair,” I admitted. “I really am sorry Joey. I was just in a bad mood. You guys are a great couple.” Joey slowly smiled. “You really think so?” “Of course I do. I was just being bitter.” “Then I forgive you. How are things with Tate?” She asked.  “Not great, but I realized I’m not going to try to get him back.” “Why not?” Marsden asked in shock. “He needs to get me back. He said some very mean things to me and I shouldn’t be chasing after him. I deserve an apology.” I said almost proudly. “Good for you!” Joey exclaimed. “Yeah, make that boy suffer a little!” Suddenly Chloey ran past us, muttering to herself. “Everything okay?” Joey called.  “It’s fine!” Chloey responded, sounding like she was on the verge of tears.  “Do you think that’s true?” I asked. Marsden shook his head. “No,” Joey shrugged. “The days after The Rainbow Moon are always kind of insane. I’m sure things will be back to normal in no time.” I sure hoped so. I missed Tate.
